Sup.
We're gonna start off with last season. It was honestly rather uneventful despite winning over 55 games for the third season in a row. After beating the Raptors in a tough series, we were then completely dismantled by the Magic in yet another 2nd round flameout. Business as usual. One thing we did do was bring in Dragan Bender from the Bobcats near the middle of the season. We're incredibly glad to have him, and we expect that he'll have a fruitful career in DC.
Speaking of careers, this offseason marked the end of JR Johnson's 6-year tenure with our squad. I mean, what can we say? JR's 1a to Wesley's 1b in terms of being the best point guard to ever put on a Wizards uniform. We love him and wish him the best in LA. In return, we got Tony Cucone, who we have high hopes for in terms of becoming a top PG, but is also the main reason why this is not a live conference.
Wiz fans' reaction whenever they see Tony
But that wasn't the only thing that happened this offseason. We had an unusually strong free agent period, bringing back Adrian Rodriguez (who we're really glad to have back btw) and bringing in Long Anderson, Thomas Minter, Stefan Rush, Carl Howard, Tommie Keener, and even Williams Armstrong off of waivers. We also brought in Stephen Rodney and John Moore, but seeing that they were knuckleheads whose laziness was sure to infect our team, they were cut after only two months with us. We also had a great training camp, with some reports putting us in the top 5 in terms of best results. We'd like to give a big thank you to our training staff, as well as a big FU to our preseason coaching staff, who put together one of the most mind-bogglingly stupid lineups I've seen in a long time. I suppose it's a testament to our talent that we were able to go 5-1.
This is a pretty important season for us, not just on the court, but in the front office as well. There are a lot of guys who need to prove their worth to this organization, and there are a lot of tough decisions to be made and hard work to be put in from management. I can't promise that we'll be amongst the best of the conference, but I can say that we definitely won't be boring.
Any questions?

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: Despite your preseason lineup being kind of screwed around (all lineups in a new season seem to be based on the last amount of minutes and position eligibility from the previous season and some ordering based on who is on the same contract as they were last year getting prioritized over re-signings and new signings...mine, too), were you able to learn anything about your team from having an unorthodox lineup that went 5-1?

1. David Anderson isn't just another random long-shot prospect, this guy has legitimate potential as a wing.
2. Adrian Rodriguez's performance during last season's playoffs wasn't a fluke.
3. I might have a frontcourt problem on my hands.

Shaft Zucker, ABC: Stephen Rodney was once a prized prospect in the draft. What will his role be on your team, and do you feel that he can turn his career around, especially in a place as terrible as the DC region?

Wow, Rodney's so irrelevant that people don't even notice when he gets cut. Impressive.

Shaft Zucker does his homework, clearly!

Following his release from the Lakers, it's good to see Minter may have found a home with the Wizards. How will he be utilized with the Wizards? Separately, do you think former Laker Cucone will get much or any playing time this year, or will you limit the boo's in D.C.?

We're really glad to have Minter, but he's a great example of the potential frontcourt logjam I have. I really want to give him the minutes to prove himself, but that may prove difficult with Dragan, Long, Adrian, and Phillip all vying for time. As for Tony, unfortunately he didn't do well enough in TC to secure a starting spot, so he's slotted in as Shaffer's backup at this time. He has some big shoes to fill, and so we're not going to throw him to the wolves unless we're sure he's ready.

With your outstanding tax bill and the looming free agency of Phil Brooks, are you feeling any extra pressure to have a successful season?

Not really. In all honesty, I feel more pressure to be active in the league. Having a successful season would be nice though.
