LOS ANGELES On the day that two new members get the opportunity to be drafted by, and begin their professional basketball careers, with the Clippers, team owner Dennis Noreira has made two hires within the organization with an eye on ushering in a new, more exciting era of Clippers basketball for the 2028-2029 season and beyond.
The first hire is of new minority owner and General Manager of the Clippers, Roberto Abitua. Mr. Abitua is perhaps best known from his start in professional wrestling as the former heavyweight champion, LeStatt Knight. After his retirement from active competition in 2016, he turned his attention to talent scouting and evaluation where he quickly flourished and by 2018, expanded his business to being an agent for wrestlers. In 2020, Mr. Abitua created "Knightfall", a talent agency that moved beyond just wrestling and began to work with athletes from all sports. Mr. Noreira is excited to bring such a young, passionate, saavy and driven individual into the organization. It was in a collaborative fashion that Mr. Noreira and Mr. Abitua decided to bring on the second exciting hire, the new coach of the Los Angeles Clippers.
Kevin Durant played 13 seasons in a Clippers jersey, winning numerous individual awards and accolades, but most importantly bringing a level of team excellence and success that the organization had never known before, including the franchise's only championship in the 2012-2013 season. Now, he will get to take the franchise to even greater heights as it's new head basketball coach. Mr. Durant has paid his dues in the basketball coaching community, most recently leading The Ohio State University Buckeyes to a National Championship after a win against his Alma Mater, the University of Texas Longhorns.
Soon after the draft is completed there will be an introductory press conference and Q&A session with Dennis Noreira, Roberto Abitua, Kevin Durant and the players drafted by the organization.
