Sacramento Kings Preseason Media Presser

Welcome everyone to another edition of the Sacramento Kings Preseason Media Presser. We left off last season broken and sad.

The season looked lost with no bright light at the end of the tunnel, but with Haynes and Mitchell ready for another season we decided to just roll with it. We had no other choice, as they were RFA restricted.

Erik Haynes took the next step and was the league vote MIP after making the 1st Team All NBA. He really thrived when we needed him to, and Mitchell made his first All Star Game which was great news.

We made a trade to bring in Buddy Hield who would get hurt almost immediately. He was back for the playoffs but we really don’t know what we have with him yet. As mentioned we made the playoffs and had a nice run to the Western Conference Finals. Unfortunately our luck ran out as the Utah Jazz demolished the team. All in all, it was a decent season considering the circumstances.

The offseason was odd and quiet for us. We really wanted to rebuild and were prepared to send Haynes and Mitchell to new homes. Unfortunately, teams were being cheap and we just couldn’t pull the trigger. We made a bid for Baldwin in RFA and yet another Hawks big man wanted to join the team only to be dragged out of our gym by a hairless grumpy cat.

Before UFA we reached out to the Bucks for Pulley to solidify the team. Quailman had no gripes on taking advantage of me and even pulled 3 points out of the negotiations.

Training camp was meh. Pulley got hit but not too serious (thankfully) and Nelson got hit. We don’t know what the starting lineup will be for the season but we are submitting the following:

C - Haynes
PF - Pulley
SF - Mitchell
SG - Hield
PG - Lemke

Did you vote no on the purple player training discussion to spite Duren?

This question is Nuggets related. He's about 1,000 mile East.

GWR: Do you feel that you're almost forced into contending due to the weakness of the conference.

I do feel this way, yes. Especially looking at the division, the rebuilding teams still need some time to develop their young guys. I figure with my team in the conference we can earn a good bit of points and continue building on a decent squad. The drawback is I do not believe my team is a contender to win it all. Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

How does your organization feel about putting out fake news about the 3 pts when it was your organization that offered 6 but then posted 3?

If someone had offered you Ricky Rubio for Jeffrey Duren 2 years ago, would you have traded Duren?

What about Timothy Pulley made you decide to pull the trigger on bringing him to Sacramento?

Having Haynes, Mitchell, and Hield, I really wanted either a pass first PG or a PF who could score and rebound. I went after these types of players hard in RFA but was unable to bring one home. Pulley fit the bill and I’ve really liked him for a couple of seasons now. His defense took a ding, but in the first sim he’s fitting well next to Haynes.

Do you feel the Kings will be the kings of the league this season and if so how many GMs will be salty about it when the Kings win the crown?

I wish I felt we were in a good position to win it all but I don’t think we are. We will see what the addition of Pulley brings to the table, but the team is missing something to be elevated from a good team to a legitimate contender.

There may be salt, but not much if it were to happen.

What would be more disappointing to you, missing the playoffs or losing in the finals?

Missing the playoffs. You'd have to be pretty bad to do that.
