2023‒2024 Utah Jazz Press Conference
Digiskunk: GREETINGS, LADS AND LASSES to yet another Utah Jazz press conference. As you're all quite well aware, we pride ourselves on these engagements, especially considering how much we lack to impress during the regular season. We hope to continue that trend of entertaining press conferences this season, regardless of last year's results. So, let's get started.

Where should we begin? We entered last season with high hopes — and why shouldn't we? We had, by all means, improved from the season prior, and were regarded by many to be one of the "teams to beat" in the west. Unbeknownst to us, the Minnesota Timberwolves had some surprises up their sleeves, and they managed to not only win the division, but the PBSL Finals as well. Ah, shucks. Maybe next season, right?

Heading into the offseason, we knew we had a huge luxury tax to pay, and so we paid it. We traded away Andre Drummond at one point to help save us from having to pay a similar luxury tax the next season, but after RFA hit, we had to match the offer for J.R. Johnson, which was a max. So, once again, we were over the cap, and had to resort to signing some vets to the bare minimum. Due to my incompetence as a GM, however, I totally forgot about training camp, and failed to insure any of my players. J.R. Johnson took the biggest hit, which was a real low blow. But, we're hoping he can make a full recovery next season. Or not. Whatever. In other news, Joseph Kight and James Gebhart both had excellent training camps, so we're really hoping that that will make up for both CJ McCollum and J.R. Johnson's decline.

So, what are our plans for this upcoming season? Simply put: Hope for the best. We haven't really improved since last season, and may have to rely on our "big 3" for much of the season, but not all is lost. We'll see how this upcoming season goes and then make decisions accordingly.

If you have any questions, let's hear 'em!

How do you plan on paying the upcoming tax bill after paying last season's tax bill? Will you look towards the Bobcats or Grizzlies to take on CJ McCollum?

Very good question, and that's one we're strongly considering. We're going to have to do a lot to pay our tax the next season or so, so we're greatly considering moving CJ McCollum, and possibly even J.R. Johnson. Who knows, maybe we'll rebuild again, lol WHO KNOWS.

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: In seasons past, we've seen Gebhardt play an undersized 3 and Kight at an undersized 4. This preseason, they were back at their natural SG and SF positions respectively. Do they stay there for the regular season?

Actually, yes! I figure that I might as well experiment with that this season, considering our chances at winning the Finals are pretty slim. We decided to slot CJ McCollum at the 3 because, well, why the hell not — he's also pretty damn slow so, even if he is[/u] undersized, he may be able to still hold his own anyway while Gebhart destroys things at the 2

Nick Melon; The Advocate: Have you lost faith in JR Johnson after his take the money and die strategy during the offseason?

Honestly, we are slightly disappointed, but there is absolutely no reason why he can't make a comeback. All he literally needs is some more paid [potential] training and a good training camp and we're looking at a triple-double threat; and with that said, we're totally open up to taking offers for him if somebody else wants to take that chance. But so far we still have utmost faith in him!
