Magic 20/21 Presser

Hey folks. Let's start with a quick look back at least season.

It was a weird season last year. I put together a team I hoped could be competitive while showcasing their value to anyone interested in adding smaller pieces. We were right in it for the 8th spot even after dealing away Chris Bosh and Russel Arciniega, then Dennis got hurt and we found ourselves comfortably at the bottom of the lottery.

We went into the offseason committed to bottoming out. We found new homes for Dario Saric, Marcus Smart, and Dennis Schroeder. Coming in is a whole new team, and we're looking at Predrag Saric, Desean Hawkins, and even Russel Arciniega being part of a new foundation. We hope players like Brian Stark and Elfrid Payton will show their talents a willing buyer so we can continue starting over. We even welcomed back Chris Bosh for a cup of coffee- he's told us he's a big fan of Disneyworld during the winter.

By season's end, I'll be happy if we get more assets for the future and have a clearer picture on who will be part of our next title team.

With that, I'll take your questions.

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: If you groundhog day'd back to the beginning of last season, would you have done anything differently to either push for the playoffs harder or try to make any particular trades sooner?

Other than sabotaging our gameplan, there wasn't a whole lot that would have swung it either way. We would have been in a better position for the 8th spot if we didn't deal Bosh or Arciniega, but ultimately we felt we made the right decision. We also probably could have signed younger tertiary guys for the long term instead of signing one year vet mins to try and sell off. That being said, I've learned nothing. GEORGE HILL FOR A POINT, PEOPLE.

Predrag Saric has some interesting potential but is still very raw. How long do you feel until he is ready to contribute?

He had a nice camp, but he's still got some filling out to do. It's very likely he redshirts this year- he's probably a year away from being a bench contributor.

You mentioned Arciniega being part of the future, and he's become an incredible success story...but he's also the same age as Saric...who was traded. Like Saric, is he really a "not looking to trade, but will if something good comes up" player?

Bingo. His salary makes him an interesting piece. As of today, we haven't heard any offers that appeal to us. If that time comes, we'll be ready to deal. If not, we're ok with having a player of his skill levels these next few seasons.

Who's slated to be your starting Center? Jamey Brown?

You guys decided to grab DeSean Hawkins from the Bucks. What sort of role will he be playing for you guys? How many minutes should he expect to see?

There will be a lot of tinkering this year. Russel will start, but depending on how things go, Jamey "The Frown" Brown and Kieth "The Typo" Robison will also see some time at the 5.

He's a key player- he's going to get the green light to Chuck. We expect heavy minutes and production from him.

Mitch Landrieu, nola.com: Be honesty did you smile after seeing Dario Saric's training camp?

Not at all- he was a valued player during his time here. We put in a lot of time and energy into him, and we hoped he would deliver on the promise he showed last season. Unfortunately for Milwaukee, it looks like he took a step back in training camp. We hope he's still a major player in the league for years to come.

Woody Paige, Denver Post: You really think this is going to pass for full points for a presser? What is the world coming to? I swear...

Brevity is the soul of wit. Unlike the new Post ownership rules, the PBSL isn't paid by word.
