Three times the work for less than twice the amount of points seems like a diminishing returns situation here.

Sure but I have faith he will finish it. Im just trying to give him the most I can bc I don’t want to be a hard ass about it, and I trust that he will update it.

Sim 2 Rankings

The node was acting a little goofy after sim 2 so I had to rush getting the averages down, but I'm pretty sure they are correct. Also these are season long averages after this sim, not what the individuals averaged during sim 2 only.

1. James Gebhart - Utah Jazz - 17.9 PPG / 6.1 RPG / 3.5 APG
2. Tyler Ulis - Boston Celtics - 19.8 PPG / 3 RPG / 2.4 APG
3. James Ellis - LA Lakers - 16.3 PPG / 4.8 RPG / 2.6 APG
4. Joffrey Baratheon - Toronto Raptors - 15.7 PPG / 2.6 RPG / 4.1 APG
5. Arthur Hardie - Sacramento Kings - 14.8 PPG / 7.6 RPG / 1.8 APG
6. Dennis Smith Jr - Chicago Bulls - 11.6 PPG / 2.6 RPG / 7.4 APG / 2.1 SPG
7. Keith Pfeffer - Miami Heat - 11.7 PPG / 4.4 RPG / 4.3 APG
8. James Pearsall - Sacramento Kings - 11.1 PPG / 4.6 RPG / 1.1 APG
9. Wilbert Brown - San Antonio Spurs - 10.7 PPG / 5.2 RPG / 2.7 APG / 2.3 BPG
10. Roger Conlin - LA Clippers - 9.9 PPG / 5.3 RPG / 1.2 APG / 1.1 BPG
11. Julio De La Rosa - Washington Wizards - 10.7 PPG / 3.8 RPG / 3.2 APG
12. Jayson Tatum - Portland Trailblazers - 8.5 PPG / 2.5 RPG / 1 APG

Newcomer Arthur Hardie breaks through into the rankings debuting at #5 after not being on the list last sim after not seeing the court either, almost 15 and 8 is pretty impressive. Gebhart continued to show what I consider the best all-around game. Ulis entered the starting lineup and continued to score at a high volume, Joff had a slight dip, and Dennis Smith Jr plays more of a traditional PG role distributing the rock and swiping steals out on the perimeter.

Sim 3 Rankings

OK now that I have some time and we have at least 20 games under our belts, let's take a deeper dive into this rookie class. We are gonig to focus on the top 5 or 6 and then do a quick look at 5 guys who are putting up good stats in limited mins (aka please the point master and include his "rookie")

1. James "Juicy G" Gebhart - SG Utah JazzImage
18.3 PPG / 6.3 RPG / 3.3 APG / PER: 14.6 / MPG: 39.6

Gebhart is playing the most minutes per game out of all rookies with 39.6 mpg, but is also putting up good stats albeit on a bad team. His best game of the year so far was in a victory over the Bulls were he scored 31 points, pulled down 8 boards and had 5 assists in 45 minutes. He is actually averaging 1 less shot per game than teammates Joseph Kight and Robert Neeley, but the Jazz look scary developing these 3 young guys all 22 or younger.

2. Tyler Ulis - PG Boston Celtics Image
21.0 PPG / 3.0 RPG / 2.7 APG / PER: 18.0 / MPG: 33.9

Ulis may very well stats-whore his way into the Rookie of the Year Award, the former Mr Basketball of Virginia isn't afraid to shoot. Ulis has scored at least double digits in every game this season except one. He is a volume scorer no doubt, but his ability at the FT line (94%) and around the rim (70% INS) makes him rather efficient. Ulis leads all rookies in 30 points games this year with 3 and will continue to try to score his way to ROTY.

3. Arthur Hardie - PF Sacramento Kings Image
14.8 PPG / 7.9 RPG / 2.7 BPG / PER: 16.9 / MPG: 32.9

Hardie started the season on the bench but has burst onto the scene in the last 2 sims. He is leading all rookies in rebounds per game and blocks per game. The next closest rebounder is a full board and a half behind. He uses his massive strength advantage down low to bully weaker opponents. He is grabbing almost 3 offensive rebounds per game and is making up for lost time attempting the second most shots on his team behind only Duren.

4. Dennis Smith Jr - PG Chicago Bulls Image
11.1 PPG / 7.4 APG / 2.0 SPG / PER: 14.2 / MPG: 33.3

It was really tough to choose between Joff or Smith Jr here. I gave the edge to the Bulls PG because he is leading all rookies in 2 categories, steals and asssists, plus he also has the higher PER. Dennis Smith Jr may have been the steal of the draft going 9th overall and being the 5th...FIFTH point guard taken in the draft. Rest easy Dennis...for now you're not 5th on this list.

5. Joffrey Baratheon - PG Toronto RaptorsImage
14.5 PPG / 2.8 RPG / 4.9 APG / PER: 11.7 / MPG: 35.3

The first PG taken Joff is pretty raw and in his rookie season is still putting up good numbers. Baratheon has the potential to be an elite offensive Point Guard in this league. His scoring numbers have taken a slight hit each sim starting off hot with 17 ppg, 16 ppg, to now under 15 ppg. But still this PG has all-world potential and it will be interesting to see how early he can put it all together.

Quick Hits

There's the big dogs that are playing heavy minutes, but there's also a talented crop of rookies who are producing well in limited playing time. The top 5 rookies are averaging 35 minutes per game, so below I'll give these players actual stats and then show what they would be averaging if they would get the same amount of playing time as the real top 5 ROTY candidates.

1. Jayson Tatum is averaging 8.5 ppg and 2.5 rpg in just 14.6 minutes per game for the Trailblazers which would translate 20 and 6 if he got some more run.

2. Stewart Osterman is putting up 9 ppg and 4 rpg in 16.6 minutes per game for the Spurs. If he got full-time starters minutes he might be closer to 19.0 and 8.4 which would be tops for rebounding for rookies.

3. Markelle Fultz in just 15.8 minutes of action for the Sixers is putting up 8.1 ppg, 1.3 rpg, and 1.5 apg...his PER35 averages translate to 17.8 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 3.3 apg.

4. Roger Conlin for the Clippers is playing about 23 mpg and averages 9.9 ppg and 5.3 rpg...give the man another 12 mpg and he could be averaging 15 and 8...about what #3 Arthur Hardie is doing for the Kings

5. His teammate Abel Basile is also averaging 9.2 ppg, 3 rpg, 1.2 apg to go along with 1.3 steals per game. If he played 35 mins per game it could look like 16/5/2/2

Of course the question becomes with more playing time would these rookies automatically produce what they are doing in limited minutes...we'll never know. I haven't tracked the rookie class like this in the past, but it definitely stands out to me as one of the more talented and productive group of rookies in a while. This looked like a loaded draft class in the draft preview and leading up to the actual draft and so far the rooks are living up to the hype.

We skipped a few sims, but we are back. Just going to focus on the top 5 here on out and they seem to be pretty consistent. We've got a volume scorer, an all around wing player, an inside scorer and rebounder, a defending and distributing PG, and lastly an athletic future stud PG. All 5 of these players are playing starting minutes and for rookies, they are doing their particular role pretty well. Another interesting thing about the top 5 is the amount of games they've played. 4 of the top 5 rookies have started 252 out of a possible 257 games.

1. James Gebhart - SG Jazz - 18.8 ppg / 5.9 rpg / 3.3 apg / 38.7 mpg / 16.5 PER - Still my personal choice for ROTY, Gebhart is 2nd in points per game, leads all rookies in minutes per game, rebounds well for a shooting guard, and is the highlight on the single digit win Jazz team this year. While looking at All-Star snubs it does seem that doing more than just scoring is important, I'm not sure the computer picks ROTY like they do all-stars, but if they do I think James is in the driver seat for the award. PER is not the end all be all, but it's one of the only advanced stats that we have and surprisingly he is 4th out of 5 in PER.

2. Tyler Ulis - PG Celtics - 20.7 ppg / 2.4 rpg / 2.9 apg / 33.9 mpg / 18.7 PER - Selfishly I hope the computer takes scoring and PER into consideration when choosing for the award. Looking back at the last 5 rookies of the year 18.2 is the highest scoring a rookie averaged, so to be beating that by a full 2.5 points is impressive. Ulis will have to work on defense and distributing to become a complete player but for now it appears he'll be able to rely on his athleticism and getting to the free throw line. He is still putting an an insanely efficient 63.2% TS%.

3. Arthur Hardie - C Kings - 14.9 ppg / 7.7 rpg / 2 bpg / 33.2 mpg / 17.8 PER - Hardie is the only rookie on this list still coming off the bench, he's getting starter minutes, maybe gunning for the elusive double ROTY and 6th Man of the Year award sweep. The Kings are in a great position with Duren about to hit RFA, Hardie having an outstanding rookie season, a promising young PG, and potentially 2 top 3 picks in next years draft. But back to Hardie putting up almost 15 and 8 is great production, he is grabbing 2.5 offensive rebounds per game, and 2 blocks as well. He doesn't foul much which is becoming more and more of an impressive trait, and has become amazing value being selected 14th overall.

4. Dennis Smith Jr - PG Bulls - 11.9 ppg / 7.3 apg / 2.1 spg / 33.1 mpg / 17.3 PER - Smith Jr is on track to become a perfect floor general. Harassing the opposing teams point guards on defense and finding teammates for assists on the offensive end. He's also not a complete stiff scoring the ball on his own shooting 37% from 3 and 42% from the field. Smith Jr has led the Bulls to the most wins on this list if that helps any in the voters eyes, but Chicago seems to have a found a gem of a PG at the back end of the lotto.

5. Joffrey Baratheon - PG Raptors - 14.2 ppg / 2.7 rpg / 4.5 apg / 34.9 mpg / 12.5 PER - Joff isn't sporting the best PER, but his overall numbers are pretty solid. He's really being held back from shooting the long ball poorly with just a 27% from 3. He doesn't jack up a ton of them only averaging 3 attempts per game, but with shooting over 60% from the inside and 94% from the free throw line, every time he thinks about shooting a 3 he'd be better off driving to the hoop.
