First Take 2018-19

Stephen A, first I want to extend to my congratulations to the Detroit Pistons organization, who just got done winning the 2017-2018 PBSL Finals on the back of some pretty fierce offense. That was one hell of a rollercoaster ride, and I'm glad that we were there to witness it. I'm sure Gerald Henderson was equally as entertained watching from his couch at home. Poor bastard.
Second, I want to voice my disbelief with what's been going on in this draft thus far. Stephen A, every year we're fortunate enough to catch a glimpse into the future of the league; and each year, I'm utmost disappointed with the top teams in the draft. Are you kidding me, Boston Celtics? Are you FREAKING kidding me?!?!! The Boston Celtics were in prime position to grab the league's next big star, Jayson Tatum, when he fell from his projected #2 selection to #3. But rather than picking the next KEVIN DURANT, the Boston Celtics took a gamble on a kid that virtually nobody was talking about: Tyler Ulis. I know that the draft is generally considered a crapshoot, but I can't help but feel as if the Boston Celtics shat the bed on this one. When I look at Jayson Tatum, I see a fierce competitor who can score the ball with authority; I see a future MVP. This is downright embarrassing for the city of Boston, Stephen A, and I want you to acknowledge that.

You know, Skip. I agree with you to some extent. To some extent! Tyler Ulis is going to be a good player. There's no doubt about it. Kind of reminds me of a Dame Lillard. He can score but he's not a complete package point guard. Terrific athleticism. Plus he's got the defense to go with that package. Do I think they made the correct pick? The pick that I would have made? Absolutely not. But was it an embarrassing pick? I don't think so. Now about Mr. Tatum. Jayson Tatum is going to be a start in this league, not KEVIN DURANT MIND YOU, I WON'T RISK THAT BLASPHEMY, but he's going to be a star and let me tell you why. Only two other guys in the history of the league have had the kind of combination of quickness, jumping, and inside scoring he has. Two guys! Who were they? Kevin Johnson and Russ Westbrook. The only difference? Tatum is much taller and stronger. WATCH OUT RIM! This guy has a better jump shot than Russ too. Now I've heard some say that all this guy can do is score. Right now? Sure. But when I look around the league, the closest comparable guy to Tatum based on defensive potential is Kawhi Leonard, a guy that has been named the All-defensive second team twice. So I agree with you, Skip, that Tatum is going to be great.

Stephen A, I just wanted to take a few moments to discuss the mental toughness and testicular fortitude of Bucks GM IamQuailman. Here we have a general manager who isn't afraid to take a step back and shake things up a bit. Last night I heard him screaming from the rooftops of downtown Milwaukee about how he refuses to sit idly by as his team continues to fade in the west. He's eager for change, and he let the league know it by unloading Andre Drummond (for Alton Towers) and then promptly putting Ricky Rubio on the good ol' trade block. Do you remember that song
"We're Not Gonna Take It" by Twisted Sister? Well that has become the theme song of the Milwaukee Bucks. They're sick and tired of coming up short in the playoffs, and Quailman is smart enough to know that NOW is the time for change, and I applaud him for his efforts. We're privileged to watch this genius—no, this protege of Pat Riley—in action. The Bucks are quickly turning into one of the most fascinating franchises in PBSL, and it's all thanks to their internet superhero GM. I just can't help but wonder what he's going to do next, Stephen A. But something tells me that it's going to be the talk of the town in the coming days.

Testicular fortitude? Mental toughness? The Milwaukee Bucks are COWARDS. They are shameful! They saw what Anthony in the playoffs and they ran. They dispersed. GM Ian Quailman and that who organization are a bunch of chickens. Now. You call them fascinating. I got news for you, Skip. I expected nothing less from the Bucks. This is what they do. They blow things up at the first sign that their squad is not a contender. And you know what? They'll be back contending in a few years. This isn't fascinating it is history repeating itself.

Stephen A, almost as soon as you opened your mouth, the Bucks responded in a huge way by trading away KYRIE IRVING, one of the best DUAL GUARDS in the LEAGUE, to the Bobcats in exchange for Lonzo Ball and Ryan Anderson. It's deals like this that set Quailman apart from other general managers in this league, who may be a bit too shy or
timid to make such a bold decision. He isn't afraid to mix things up. This is a great move for the future if you ask me.
Listen Stephen A, I had the opportunity to speak to Lonzo earlier and although he stressed how much he's going to miss playing alongside his father in Charlotte, I can't help but feel that this move is going to rejuvenate his career. Now that he's behind the wheel of the car without his father in the passenger seat telling him what to do, I think that he's going to go off in a way that we've never seen before. Just you wait and see. I'm predicting him to reach career highs next season, mark my words — and it'll all be thanks to Quailman.
BREAKING NEWS, Stephen A! The Bucks have just traded Ricky Rubio and have gotten a surplus of goods in returning, including a hot young rookie by the name of JOHN HAGERMAN and a future 1st. How do you like them apples now, Stephen A?
First Take: Day 1 Of Free Agency

I couldn't believe my eyes when I woke up and read the news, Stephen A: "Vancouver Grizzlies walk away with Sean Kilpatrick, O.J. Mayo, George Hill, Jeff Adrien, Roy Hibbert after day 1 of free agency." It's so surreal, it's almost like a dream. Every offseason, we're treated with an immensely entertaining free agency period, and this year has been no different, Stephen A. When I look at the Grizzlies, I see a team that's ready to grut their teeth; I see a team who wants to contend for the PBSL Finals — and they want to put the rest of the league on notice. They picked up Sean Kilpatrick on a
veteran minimum deal, Stephen A. Just let that sink in. That goes to show how much these players have faith in this franchise. I understand that they weren't able to land a true, bonafide superstar such as LEBRON JAMES—who recently signed with his hometown boys the CLEVELAND CAAAAVALIERS, might I add—but the Grizzlies managed to sign some good players who will be able to rise to the occasion, à la Gerald Henderson, when called upon. I hope the Pistons are ready for the Grizzlies, because if you ask me, they're now the team to beat in not only that division, not only in that conference, but the ENTIRE LEAGUE, STEPHEN A!!!
I would also like to take a moment to extend a warm welcome to the new general manager of the Los Angeles Clippers, Trujillo or Trollito or whatever the hell his name is. He's taking over for one of the best GMs this league has ever seen, aburns11, and I hope that Trillittle has what it takes to survive in this fiercely competitive league. Fortunately for him, he has Kevin Durant — for now. It will be interesting to see what direction he chooses to take the Clippers into, Stephen A — and if day 1 of free agency is any indication, it should be straight into the ground. Welcome to the league, Trillo, I'm sure you'll fit in just fine.

You know, Skip, the Grizz had great day. There is no denying that. Not even the ATLANTA HAWKS, who are NOTORIOUS for these kinds of sweetheart deals, have had a day that good! I'm going to say something I don't say often because it isn't TRUE OFTEN: I think you're right, Skip! I get little worried about the lack of a star. They don't have that go-to-guy that can carry them. They have a super deep team of solid guys but they're all getting a little old, none of them is KEVIN DURANT or even DAME LILLARD. So I think they have some work to do.
Welcome, welcome Trillotto, it looks like you are aptly named because you may be heading to the lotto! I bet the Blazers are regretting trading that pick! In all seriousness it really isn't fair to have your introduction to the league be free agency, which can be confusing and surprising, especially in light of the signings by the Grizz yesterday. Unfortunately, looking at the deals they did make, Trillotto probably needed to have more of an introduction to the league before being given the keys. This was honestly a debacle and will probably look like a scar on the league in the end. I'll just say this. We're about to see how good KD really is.
