How did I go from 0 to 17? Shouldn't I have gotten a player that didn't take me to the second tier? Not clearing my repeater was bad enough...is it codified anywhere that you get the BPA, and if it isn't shouldn't there be some accounting for teams in the tax because I'm sure when that 'rule' was created there wasn't a lux tax.
Also, just in general there should absolutely be a playoff exemption from tax additions due to injury, otherwise it disincentivizes making the playoffs for a fringe playoff team. 3 points for making the playoffs is pretty paltry compared to this tax bill plus whatever future cost there is in having to rebuild/reset the tax again. Happening to multiple teams this year and it's absolutely ridiculous.

I 100% and with obvious bias support a playoff exemption.

I don't like having to sign players for injury either, but the rules are the rules. We all agreed to those rules. If they need to be changed, let's have that discussion, but we have to play under the rules we have until we do decide to change them.
Admittedly, the Wolves are a more sympathetic case than the Nuggets - if you choose to go with 8 or 9 players and dare the injury bug not to hurt you that's on you - cap management includes making sure you have enough players to go through but the Wolves had like 12 dudes and had a bunch of late injuries which is much harder to plan for.
For the record, I think some sort of proposal is warranted. There are a number of ways to do this - perhaps salary added due to playoff injuries doesn't count toward the luxury tax. Perhaps any team with 12 players or more on its roster gets an exemption if injuries force more salary to be added even if it happens in the regular season. Perhaps a team should have an opportunity to cut players added mid-sim due to injury without that salary affecting their luxury tax status. There are a number of ways this problem could be "fixed" but I want to know what the league thinks, which is why I'm waiting to see some proposals and discussion. I'm not sure which fix (including ones I haven't mentioned above) is best for the league... that's why I need more brains than mine discussing things on the forum.

Well at least that’s a response...
Personally I think that if something is viewed as pretty unfair our commish should be able to make it not so. Also I don’t recall where we created a rule governing lux tax in the playoffs.

I think it's unfortunate, but I'm not sure why it's any less fair than if injuries forced a signing during the regular season. I think that the forced signing rules overall could be handled better though...maybe it signs the best of the cheapest FA instead of the best FA, or at any time after trade deadline passes, we can submit lists of preferred FA signings in case of injury...or even allow players to cut replace forced signing players with a cheaper FA after the sim where the forced auto-signing took place.

Our commish could make it not so if he chose to but with that being said that isn't how Wig rolls. He has for the most part not changed things or rules on the spot and has always preferred things be discussed and suggested and then voted on. It's not my preference for commishing, I prefer to rule with an iron fist. Trust me, the league was probably much better off having the "Shadow Council" cause it was a checks and balance on myself most of the time. Wig has been very consistent on that front so I'm fine with it. As long as it's consistent I can't complain about the way things are done. It was a shitty that happened, like really really shitty. But I would also say that I think it is a rare occurrence and that I personally wouldn't even waste my time with a suggestion. I expect to see one to straighten these rules up a bit and I foresee voting for that clarity, but when a suggestion is made I will probably argue against playoff injury exclusions to the tax as a whole. I think if you gamble going into the playoffs with 8-9 players then you should have to reap the consequences when you lose that bet. Not be bailed out. In a case where you go in having 10+ players(just a rough number) and get super unlucky with 2+ injuries, then maybe I can see some cushion there.
That's my 2 cents anyway.

I don’t think Wig is saying it is so because he said so, it’s been widely known that if you have to make a signing in the playoffs you it counts towards your luxury tax. I can’t think of any instance where it happened to a team that wasn’t in the tax to end the regular season, but I know it’s happened to teams that were already in the tax and ended up going up a couple of brackets to make a signing. It’s only a topic now because it happened to two teams at the same time in the same round that were below the tax line.
I’m not going to pile on to an unfortunate situation for Denver and Minnesota, it sucks and it happened. I don’t think Wig is making a unique ruling because it’s the same process we’ve always had. I believe the luxury tax wording in the thread is that the final luxury tax bill is set at the end of the season, not the end of the regular season.
I through out the idea of an injury exemption for playoff teams if you had to make an extra signing because of injury, but the more I think about it, it just seems something to protect teams trying to skirt the luxury tax line and have a safety net to bail them out. I’m not opposed to it still, but roster management is part of the game.

I think instead of saying we should have an exemption right now bc people got screwed over, I’d be really beneficial if people made actual Suggestions.
For instance:
1. Teams will automatically sign the cheapest player instead of best if close to the threshold
And/or
2. Teams sitting at 10 or more players under the tax at the end of the regular season get an exemption if they’re forced to sign a player.

FWIW, in a league where I did *not* also run a team I would be more inclined to rule with an iron fist asit would be hard to suggest there might be a conflict of interest. But in a league where I do run a team, total transparency is vital so I stay away from iron fisted rule unless there is no other choice because I never want there to even appear to be a conflict of interest. Nothing kills a league faster than Feeling there may be a lack of impartiality. Thus, I see my role as commissioner mostly as one of enforcing the existing rules. If I feel strongly enough about changing a rule, I prefer to put it through the suggestions process like everyone else to make it clear I am not above anyone else.
It is the same reason I have not collected points for “league responsibilities” (e.g., RFA, tracking luxury tax) since becoming commissioner. I don’t want even the appearance of the commissioner having any advantage no matter how slight based on his position.

I like the suggestion of signing the lowest possible salary rather than the best. The person can always adjust after if they want someone better.

What about signing the best and having a 1 sim grace period where they can swap with any FA
