Pelicans Media Day
It's a bird....
It's a plane....
They all came in on a banana boat (down the gulf) to save the day!
When united against the evils of the Western Conference, these talents combine to save the french quarter and the crescent city. Freshly removed from a second round exit at the hands of the eventual champion, San Antonio Spurs, we find our embattled heroes regrouping for the next season ahead.
"After a long season, the best remedy for me is to head back into my sanctuary and put it into a song. All of it. The trials, tribulations, and glory. Some of those road trips and bonding, it never gets old and you build real relationships. Blake and I built something special here in New Orleans. I just couldn't envision my time here without him. That's why I'm glad he's back. I'm glad he put in that foundation of hard work and excellence. I can really feel it man."
Putting that pen down to paper, Damian could feel at ease again.
Not that it was easy, mind you. I was the only one on the roster when the season ended. We cleaned out our lockers, gave out hugs and said we'll meet again soon enough. Our top concern at the end was bringing back Blake and 'Bron. Every other team felt like they had a shot to sign them and being one of the top of the free agent class, who could blame them.
New Orleans was home though, man. We've been through the struggle. We've been here from the ground up. Just for my sanity alone, I knew that this team wouldn't win without them. Once the ink had dried on them contracts, we made a deal with the Cavs to bring in point guard extraordinaire, Chris Paul for a few sheckles and a future first. He'll really help open the offense up next year. Then we added some bodies in FA with already being over the cap. When you've got this much talent, no cost is ever not worth it when fighting evil.
That western conference is no joke. Especially when you have to face the Grizzly twins, Jimmy and Kawhi, from stealing picnic baskets and buckets. Weakbrook and now DeANDRE with those slick horse spurs. Even the Rockets brought in a dinosaur to put next to Horford. It's a battle every single night being in the South Best division. But we're up for the challenge.
Starting Lineup....
PG: Chris Paul; aka Invisible Man aka Pass like a freaking deacon.
SG: Damian Lillard; aka Dame Dolla aka the Human Torch
SF: Lebron James; aka Mr. Fantastic aka LBJ
PF: Blake Griffin; The Thing aka Brolic Griffin
C: Zaza Pachulia aka Just Zaza aka The Tblisi Gentleman

You're known for your wheeling and dealing. Do you already anticipate having to move one of your "Fantastic Four" for depth and or cap relief?

Would you say you’re the favorite to win it all ?

It’s a possibility at some point. That tax bill will probably hinder what we can do in the offseason. If something comes along the way that works for our club in the short term and long term, our door is always open.

I think the Spurs who won it all last year and improved their team in the offseason grabbing DeAndre Jordan is still a favorite to win it all. The collection of talent though assembled here is something really special. I think we can be pretty dangerous against most teams. All we are missing is just a stable 5.

You've been shopping LeBron James hard this past off-season. Did you ever get close to trading him?

We’ve had discussions internally and with other teams. We value Lebron’s talent and versatility a great deal. Depending on the value of which he fits to other teams, Mr. Fantastic could be dealt but we also understand that without him, we probably aren’t close to the upper eschelon of the Western Conference. It’s a tricky 2 edged sword.

Speaking of LeBron, what would need to happen this season for you to pick up his $40 million dollar team option next year?

Probably win a championship... or maybe a Western Conference Title banner at least.
