Minnesota Ice Fishing Rodeo!

GWR: Gather round, folks, gather round! Pleased you could make it to the annual Minnesota Timberwolves Press Conference and Ice Fishing Rodeo! In addition to taking your questions, GM JNR and the members of the Timberwolves, Minnesota's fifth most popular sports team, will be taking part in the enthralling world of competitive ice fishing!

Image

GWR: First, a statement from JNR.

JNR: Thank you, Generic Wolves Reporter. Now, this has been one of our most tumultuous off-seasons on record. We dealt away Grant Hill, who will always be a Timberwolf in our heart. He was a wonderful part of the organization and we wish him well in Atlanta. Then, rumors started that the move was the start of a rebuild in Minnesota, and the rumors were mostly true. However, before we could blow up the team and trade away our franchise player, we got a call from Jim Jackson's agent. Jim can take it from here.

Image

Jim Jackson: Thanks, sir. Once I found out that Minnesota finally had cap room, I jumped at the chance to come play with Webber. I knew this team had potential, and even though I had better offers on the table, I wanted to play with Chris.

JNR: And we couldn't turn that down. With Jim and Chris, as well as the great young players we acquired in the Hill trade in Corey Maggette and Raja Bell, we think we have a chance to still compete in the division. While we're still working out our plan for the season, we know that we can field a competitive team. And even though he was part of trade rumors, Chris is still determined to give his all. He'd tell you that personally, but he's leaning over that hole over there trying to catch a fish.

JNR: Now grab a pole and ask us a question!

Nick Melon; Charlotte Observer: Thanks for the pole...

*Grabs a hold of the fishing pole and wonders how Minnesota could possibly have frozen ponds and lakes in the middle of the offseason.*

Nick Melon; Charlotte Observer: So, if you don't mind me asking, how close were you to actually packing Webbers bags to send him off to another city? Also, with your roster and the rest of whatever's left of the Midwest Division, Do you think the division falls down to either you or those grizzly bears in Vancouver/Memphis area?

Clint Eastwood:

With the recent subtractions from your division and JJ signing with you in free agency I only have one question.....

JNR: Thanks for the question, Nick! I won't lie. We had a deal in place to send him to a Western Conference team pending the results of RFA. It didn't work out, and I'm happy it didn't. Chris loves this city, and we love him.

Webber: I caught something! *hauls in a bluegill*

JNR: Great work, buddy! As for your second question, we think we can compete for the division, but several teams can. It's wide open.

Frosty The Snowman: With the defection of Vlade Divac to the Phoenix Suns, who are you looking at to fill the big man void?

It's going to be a platoon of sorts. All of the big men on our roster have certain skills the others lack. Jerome James has put a lot of work in on the defensive side of the ball, though, and his strength really impressed us in training camp. Because of those improvements, he's going to be our opening day starter.

Jean Baptiste Étienne, of La Révolution de Vancouver (Memphis Branch) newspaper:

Once again it looks like yourself and Mavs GM FTB will be duking it out for the Midwest crown. Are there any friendly wagers between the two of you to see who gets it or are you once again going to relegate yourself to second place?

JNR: We're going to do our best to compete with the division. As far as any friendly wagers, I was recently told that we weren't friends, but rivals, so I'll continue to treat him as such.

From opening tip-off until trade deadline, do you think the team will remain the same or will you be looking to continue molding your team?

If we make absolutely no moves by the trade deadline, I'll be shocked.

Random generic Mavs reporter: How serious is team management about newly acquired star Jim Jackson? Is there a plan in place to surround him with enough talent to vie for a championship?

JNR: Thanks for the question. We are definitely on the lookout for any move that would solidify a championship core. We're thrilled to have Jackson on the squad and are looking forward to everything he brings to the team.

Hypothetical scenario question:

If you are leading in the Midwest close to All Star Game, we can only assume that you will try to add more talent around Webber and Jackson.

What if you're not though? Would you consider it time to build towards the future in Maggette and Bell? Maggette looks like a young Stackhouse in the making and Bell could compliment him well as a 3&D SG. What types of players will you be looking for if so?

If your team was a stock, would you encourage investors to buy or sell right now?

Young players. We would be looking for young players.

I'd encourage you to buy, but only a few shares. No need to be reckless with your money.
