The lights come up.

Wig looks at the reporters.

I think what we just watched says it all. I was sick of just eking into the playoffs. Every season not winning a title is a wasted year for me, and we've wasted almost a decade. It was time to make significant moves. We added Grant Hill. We kept Big Ben. We still have all-star PF Antonio McDyess. We retained Sprewell. Jon Barry elected to join us, making sure there were Zero Wings available to the rest of the league. To top it off, we did what most thought was impossible and nabbed Penny Hardaway.

We're going to pay a huge luxury tax as we make a chase for the ring. This team had darn well better compete not just for a title but for history... or DEATH. No excuses.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to think up a question just yet, on account of how hard I'm laughing right now.

GWR: With all the moves you made, is it safe to assume that anything less than an 82-0 season followed by a perfect playoffs and a title is a disappointment?

With the additions of Penny and Hill and retaining key players that should guarantee a finals appearance barring any significant injury what the are hawks reasoning for hoarding players?

Perfection is the goal every season. That said, the ring is the thing. If we can win another ring I will be satisfied.

I don't have a hoarding problem. I am a fan of accumulating assets though. You can never have enough trade bait.

Henry Bates - Houston Chronicle.

Who's the best dunker on the team?

What kind of offense will be run to split shots between McDyess, Hill, Spree, and Penny? Who will be the main option during key moments?

Random Reporter: While your 1-3 rotation is ungodly, your frontcourt situation looks...well, not as good as the rest of your team. How confident are you in Big Ben, McDyess, and Foster's ability to hold their own for 82+ games, just the three of them? Also, chemistry issues were a big problem for you last season, and it led to getting demolished in the 1st round by the Bucks. With all the new pieces in play, do you think chemistry will continue to be an issue?

Penny.

The hope is to bring back Showtime.

Penny.

We picked up a guy we believe in at the end of the draft in Big Zendon Hamilton. He should be able to give us spot minutes in a pinch. Obviously though, we need our bigs to stay healthy this season *knocks on wood*

As far as chemistry goes, I think we have a nice mix of unselfish players who will take the shot if it's there and be willing passer's if not. I'm not worried.

Nathan Sliver:
You have an ungodly amount of dollars wrapped up in stars for the next thee seasons. Penny is 29, Spree is 30, Jon Barry is 31, and Grant Hill is 28, meaning that over then next few years all of them are either stagnant or on the decline. You must be excited about this season, but how concerned are you about the future?

We always try to keep one eye on the future.. Right now we expect our backcourt and wings to carry us but our front court is young. They will have their chance to carry the team in time.

Challenge? Sure... then get made into a grease stain once the game started.

Random generic Mavs reporter: The future is bright in Atlanta, but the salary cap situation is puzzling. Does the team have plans to get back under the cap anytime soon?

It's like having an old friend come home. Only younger.

There is a plan in place, although exactly "how soon" depends largely on how the team performs.
