Purple and Blue Walls

I wanted to take a look at the history of the league and where purple and blue potential players spend most of their time. The answer? Kind of all over the place, but there are definitely some fortunate franchises and some unfortunate ones.

DISCLAIMER: Each year I counted how many blue and purple POTENTIAL players were on the roster. Below are just some fun stats around that.

For the record, we are in season 27 of the league.

SLOE GAWDS

These teams have had incredible roster luck or the fortune of stealing other team's great players. These teams will sound familiar. A great number of seasons with purple players and long periods of time with them.

Los Angeles Clippers

The Clippers have had a purple potential player on their roster for 18 out of 27 seasons. 66.67%! They have had a blue potential player on the roster 100% of the time (which come to find out isn't rare. Only 2 teams are below 90%). The Clippers have never had the elusive multiple purple players on the same team, but they have 10 year purple player streak going at the moment.

Miami Heat

With a purple player rating of 44.44% and a blue rating of 100%, the Miami heat actually sit in third place on the "Most seasons with a purple chart," but I'm putting them second because they had 6 SEASONS with multiple purple players on a roster and 11 straight seasons with at least 1. No other team in the league comes close to matching that.

Golden State Kemps

Shawn Kemp. 15 seasons with a purple player, and an 8 season streak thanks to Shawn Kemp himself. For the Warriors, they had a purple player during 15 seasons and a blue player for only 25 seasons. Golden State is the only team in this category without 100% blue player representation.

Still Pretty Fortunate

This group of teams are still a few levels above the average teams in the league, they just don't compare to the GAWDS.

Detroit Pistons

Detroit was the biggest surprise to me. This team has never been a threat, but the rosters that Detroit put on the court would make any GM drool. Detroit boasts a 40.74% purple player precentage and a perfect 100% in blue. They had a multiple purple team three times and had a streak of 8 seasons with a purple.

Milwaukee Bucks

The Bucks are identical to the Pistons. Constant waves of purple and blue players in this organization. The only difference? 2 seasons without a blue player. Oh, and a championship... Wth Detroit.

Sacramento Kings

Next. The Kings. They also match the Bucks in blue and purple ratings at 96.3% and 40.74% respectively. A lot of teams in this group match up well, but the Kings has the longest purple player streak out of the group. 11 seasons. Thanks Tmac!

Atlanta Hawks

Second biggest shock? Atlanta being here. The Hawks have the same 40.74% (11 out of 27), but surprisingly the Hawks have only had two purple players twice, and only kept the streak of purple players at 5.

Utah Jazz

The Utah Jazz started the league well, and are currently in a run of good fortune. With two separate 5 season streaks with a purple player, the Jazz lead this group with a 44.44%. I knocked them a few rankings because they have gone LOOOOONG stretches without one and never had multiple.

Phoenix Suns

Hello Kevin Love. That's basically this team. 11 seasons with purple players and a streak of 9 seasons. Luckily for the Suns, Love can win a championship by himself.

Toronto Raptors

Toronto is the only team in this group with a sub 40% of seasons with a purple player. They come in at 37.04%. 7 straight seasons with a purple player and a perfect 100% in blue potential allows them to stay in this group.

One the most shocking discoveries was the fact that every team has had a purple player for at least one season. There are a lot of teams (13) that have had a blue potential player on their roster every season. That must feel nice to always have hope.

Who was purple on my squad? It wasn't Gugs and Artest turned purple after I traded him.

Honestly I like being low on this list. I still have a great record in the league without having the most elite talent.
