Boston Celtics 2016 Media Day

GM Roy: It's that time of year again and the front office here in Boston has been reinvigorated. The sabbatical is over, and we hope we have enough of John Wall's prime left to make a run. We landed at our oringal spot in the lotto which was fine. There were a slew of SGs to choose from and we took the most athletic one. Melvin's game has holes but he's young and hungry and had a good first TC. Our absence caused a mistake during RFA, we whined about it, we accept it, and we moved on from it. We went into UFA with a ton of cap space offered maxes to those who deserved them and missed out. We were happy to sign Serge Ibaka, someone we've been targeting for a few seasons now. He's just now entering his prime and is at a flat rate. We feel like he's a solid starter and we were happy to sign him. Lastly our second favorite player cap space played a role in the offseason. We acquired Kenneth Faried and a future first round draft pick. In all honesty we were scared off by the long term deal, and what role Kenneth would play on this team with the newly acquired Serge. But we finally talked ourselves into it thinking it was a win-win situation for us. Kenneth arrived in Boston on the day of training camp with a chip on his shoulder having the best TC on the team, his behavior at training camp even intimated Kelly Olynyk so much that Kelly went home early.
The way the roster is constructed we may roll out an unconventional lineup of:
PG: Wall
SG: McCall
SF: Faried
PF: Ibaka
C: Plumlee

Did you use lube when you bent 78 over and took his points, his pick, and his best power forward?

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: The Celtics have an enormous amount of cap space left in a season where, as of right now, the team looks a little skimpy...especially off the bench for the back court and at the SF position. Do you plan to use that space to give yourself a more competitive roster, or is it more likely that you try and use your cap space to set the table for the future?

We had good talks with 78.I firmly believe the only reason Faried had a good TC was the humbling experience of being traded as a salary dump, if he continued on his bad habits of bad TCs 3 years of a lot of money would have been pretty bad on the books.

We'll fill out the roster, we are working out free agents as we speak. But yes the plan is to absorb another unwanted contract for a future asset, and give our young guys plenty of on the job training. McCall, Hill, and even Arruda will all see plenty of playing time.

Can you see any deal that would net a team John Wall? Or with your recent success on the trade market are you committed to building around him?

With the offers I'm accustomed to getting for players, I don't see any deal being offered to me that I'll accept. I've stated it would take an overpay in my eyes, and I already over value Wall. I can't even imagine what that package would look like, let alone someone actually offering it to me.

What's the plan to get more assets like Faried to surround John Wall? Entering his prime it's great the front office is waking up but the team looks like it needs to move fast to put a championship contender on the court.

Craig Biggio - Houston Chronicle: Do you envision Faried and Ibaka as long-term frontcourt starters or will you continue to keep Faried at SF since he's developed potential for jumpshooting this training camp?

We realize Wall is ready to win now, he tasted the conference finals in his sophomore season, and hasn't sniffed competitiveness since. We are thrilled to have added Ibaka and Faried this offseason it's honestly 2 more pieces to the puzzle than we thought we'd have. The plan moving forward is to try to use this cap space we have to get 1 more asset this season, let the young guys grow, get another young guy in the draft, and really start to make some noise in the next few seasons.

We really like were we sit with these 2 players. Ibaka definitely has the strength to play center and I'm sure we'll experiment there. I think Faried may receive some additional training this offseason, and we'll see how he plays at each position.

We have seen great Celtics squads built around big men. Do you feel you can have the same type of success building around Wall or are you in the market for a high grade center?

Nick Melon; The Advocate: Do you see yourself getting any depth between now and the trade deadline to stick guys behind Melvin McCall? Do you expect McCall to be an offensive focus this season ahead?
