Lottory Team Needs - Eastern conference Edition

Team: Charlotte Bobcats Image

Record:7-75

Biggest Need: Overall Talent

Summary:
Coming off of their inaugural expansion year, we knew that this first year would be tough, and Darth did not disappoint the pundits. The Bobcats did a good job at acquiring future picks with their limited leverage, and one would guess they'll expand on that this year.

Best Case Scenario: I think Matt Peck would fit in tremendously on this team but Vernon Desantis is the jewel of the draft. Peck offers versatility, scoring, defense and ball handling. Desantis offers a guy to plug into the 5 to lock down their front court with McNary for years to come. If they win the lotto I think they take Desantis and possibly look at trading down a couple of spots and picking up a future first or a young guy who can grow with the team.

Team:Orlando Magic Image

Record: 17-65

Biggest Need: Defense

Summary: Last year's pick of Ellinger was a good one, but we knew it'd take time. The Magic are acquiring a wealth of talent but being terrible year in and year out but one piece is missing: Defense. The team has a hundred draft picks that it traded for it's once full cupboard of talent and it looking to refill it.

Best Case Scenario: Move Dario Saric over to the 4 and draft Matt Peck to lock down the 3. While Peck is #3 on my big board, I think he should be #1 on the Magic's board. Peck offers all the tools Orlando needs. With Saric and Ellinger's passing, Peck can do what he does best: Score and defend. He won't slow down the high octane offensive future of the Magic and will walk in and be their best defender.

Team: Philadelphia 76ers Image

Record: 25-57

Biggest Need: Not having bad luck

Summary: The hard break 76ers ended the season on another hard break.. Finishing 4 in a 3 person draft where the long awaited arrival of a PG is waiting... a year after they just signed a Max PG.... Most people could seem excited to have the possibility to jump a spot in the draft, but the 76ers know better. Last year they were 2 and dropped to 5 and took a good talent in Van Grimaldi, only for him to lose potentials in every area that made him good along with their best player in Demarcus Cousins. They've had to give up any pick they've owned to get rid of TC failures. This year, they know if they somehow win the lotto, that pick will then be snuffed in TC.

Best Case Scenario: Nothing. There are no good scenario for the 76ers. Anything good that happens to 76ers recently, gets taken away in one form or another. The 76ers jumping into the top 2 and being able to take either Henderson or Desantis to provide a Demarcus Cousins replacement.

Team: Boston Celtics Image

Record:26-57

Biggest Need: A GM that is awake at the wheel

Summary: The Celtics are a franchise known for their luck and great GM, but in the last 10 or so years GM Conroy has been busy pursuing other things. The Celtics aren't a lost cause though. When Conroy is plugged in, hes a top5 GM. They have John Wall in his prime as well. Currently slated at the 5 spot, a jump into the top 3 is in play but not likely.

Best Case Scenario: If they jump into the top 3, Henderson or Desantis will be a rock solid foundation for them, but since that is not likely, I think McCall is a guy who can provide scoring and defense in the future. While he is a project, the Celts have time.

Team: Brooklyn Nets Image

Record: 30-52

Biggest Need: A Center

Summary: The Nets have a lot of decisions to make this year. Do they retain Melo and try to sneak into the playoffs while selecting a top 7 guy to help with their rebuild? Is the MCW experiment doomed ? What to do with 40 m in cap space? Tank or playoff run? A first look, being patient seems to be the right call, but the Nets management is itching to make some noise in the playoffs. They hit a home run with draft pick Buddy Pedroza in the draft and need to add to that. MCW looks like a fine backup in the league but i'm not sure he's a long term solution at the 1.

Best Case Scenario: Obvi win the lotto, but since that may not happen I think Hernando Medina falling to them and making MCW a super sub would pay benefit immediately, as well as not let someone hold them hostage in the MCW RFA that is upcoming,

Team: Detroit Psitons Image

Record:32-50

Biggest Need: A 2 way PG

Summary: The Pistons have a top 3 player in Anthony Davis who looks to have the potential to challenge Durant for being the best player in the league and Kemp potentially all time. At 40-11 you don't need much else besides a GM with a pulse. The Pistons made a head scratching decision to trade their only good player who plays on the outside in Bradley Beal this season which compounds years and years of bad decisions. Let's be frank, this GM doesn't deserve a team as they are a rudderless ship, but there's still time to right the ship. Draft a good player.. Sign some other good ones.. And you're a top 4 seed. Come on man!

Best Case Scenario: Medina comes to mind for me when I look at the draft in their position. I think McCall is a good fit as well, but with Warren, who will be a solid big time scorer, they can kill 2 birds with one stone with this pick. Medina can make baskets easier for Davis... Potentially lock down the outside and score if he's not respected.

Team: Cleveland Cavs Image

Record: 38-44

Biggest Need: To end the Chris Paul era (it's not working)

Summary: I give the Cavs a lot of credit for going all in and trying to make a playoff run, but like a bad relationship; both parties don't know when to say enough is enough. So, as a friend risking our friendship, i'm here to tell you. You need to break up with Chris Paul. Paul served as a top 3 pg in the league for a solid sim-decade, but it's time for the new Era cavs to restart, and hopefully you can get something for him.

Best Case Scenario: Ty Davis. I think with Davis, you can get a guy who can half fill Paul's shoes and with a little TLC in the (OB)gym you can train him to be a 2 way PG. By my estimation, you'd need 40 to get him to C handles and another 25 as a B defender, but you can home grow talent now and the Cavs have a lot of time!

I feel like you're trying to lead teams ahead of you off the Henderson scent. Henderson projects to have Chris Bosh scoring abilities. I don't care who a team already has on their roster. Henderson should be at the top of every team's list.

I don't know. Henderson and Desantis are both pretty close. Henderson gets the nod on athleticism, but Desantis gets the nod as a totally unique skillset. Both need paid training to transcend into superstar potential.

That'd make for a pretty shitty article selecting the same player for each team. I appreciate the hint of 'foul play' at my article, but I clearly stated for my team i'd take the top 2 guys i'd take.

I like the article but I think bringing in the foul play angle really adds adds a certain je ne sais quoi. Maybe you can work in an ulterior motive into the western conference write up.
