December to Remember: Trade Frenzy

Outside of the offseason, there are 2 big transaction days in the typical #SLOE season: Trade Deadline Day and Dec 15/16. Usually, December 15/16 in SLOE reality falls on a Friday in our reality, leaving 3 full days to work the phones and move some of those off-season acquisitions for upgrades or move some pieces in favor of your version of Master P's TANK. That said, this season we saw some major players get moved immediately post sim. Within minutes of sim completion, SIX(!!) trades were posted, 2 of which saw superstars and "franchise player" level names changing teams. Let's do a quick analysis of said trades and see what the impact on the league may be.

1) Warriors send Sylvester Conn and cash considerations to Magic for rights to waive Alexy Shved
Impact: Absolutely 0 League Impact What-so-ever.
Analysis: Sylvester conned the league into thinking he'd be worth a damn in the draft, but we saw the light during training camp, when 50 lbs heavier than his weight during his rookie day. Don't believe his listed weight of 216. Needless to say, the Warriors weren't amused and were more than happy to pay cash to get him off the books immediately. Unfortunately for Sylvester, he went to the Magic, where players hopes for success go to die.

2) Warriors ship Jerebko, Marcus (not Carl) Landry and cash to OKC for the Thunder's 2017 1st, 2016 2nd, Pedo-stache Morrison and one of the useless Zellers
Impact: Minimal. Warriors get worse intentionally, Thunder get some additional scoring/green colored players.
Analysis: Thunder must really love Jonas and Marcus. Order at least feel they are the missing pieces for their team. Only 1 of the 2 will be under contract for next season (JJ), and neither is particularly good at playing defense. But, Thunder are betting on themselves that they continue to have success going forward. Who needs picks!? Warriors, huge win for them. Another 1st round pick in the mystery draft of 2017, and after seeing how deep this past draft was, that pick (even if it's in the 20s) could produce nice value.

3) Hawks get Kaman, Warriors get 10 points and a bunch of shit (Tyler Hansbrough, Gavin Book, Andrew Parish)
Impact: Medium. Hawks strengthen front court..... great.
Analysis: Here goes the annual "Give Wig a Good Player for Nothing" move. This move shows that BowtotheBill is 100% committed to his rebuild and will do anything for a buck (zip your pants back up.. not that). Only thing that I don't see is TOO big of an issue here is that Wig has 3 Centers, 2 of which have a combined quickness of 11... who needs shoes when you have cement blocks protecting their feet! Teams with a quicker front court should be able to victimize these slow-footed 30-somethings. Now that I'm done with the glass half full look... Wig has another 7-foot weapon in his arsenal who can easily drop 20ppg if given the minutes. When are guys gonna learn... (more on that later)

4) Bulls jettison Milsap, Grizzlies jettison future cap space (named Kevin Garnett, Yao Ming, Gerald Henderson, Maurice Speights, Carl "not Marcus" Landry) and cash money
Impact: Low. Grizzlies get much needed front court help, but does he help get them back into playoff contention?
Analysis: Bulls are looking to clear cap in time for the KD and Kevin Love sweepstakes. And honestly, after this (and subsequent moves to be discussed), he's setting himself up for a primetime cap space. But what does that mean for this year? We'll touch on that later on when we discuss his other move. Grizzlies, on the other hand, have had a dismal start to the season, which came after an even more dismal training camp. They are looking to turn it around after going all in on Rajan Rondo. And to be frank, Milsap may be just what he needs. He didn't have a true PF prior to this move and won't have $$$ to get one in FA for the foreseeable future. He was definitely pressed to make moves though since he doesn't have his pick this upcoming draft. Hopefully, for the Vancouver and/or Memphis fans, this move plays out in their favor.

5) Mavericks pillage Beal, Pistons get Chalmers, Mavs 2018 1st, Mavs 2017 2nd, cash, and a raw booty
Impact: Low.
Analysis: Mavericks capitalized on a questionable move by the Pistons, getting Bradley Beal for almost nothing! Mavericks are in a very similar situation to the Grizzlies. No pick this year, plethora at 1 position, lack of depth at another, and both addressed a position of need without sacrificing much of the present. Mavericks could potentially play themselves back into the mix of the Southwest division with a move like this, but the question posed here is similar to the one from the last trade: will this be enough?

6) Bucks and Jazz swap PGs and PFs, with Rubio and Davis heading East and Collison and Anderson heading West
Impact: High.
Analysis: Fairly even trade. Bucks have always coveted Rubio, and have come out the gate sputtering. Jazz just lost Bogut for about 2-3 weeks and couldn't stand to lose any more scoring. Bucks add a sizeable guard that can defend the likes of Deron Williams and James Harden at the PG spots in the East. Jazz get some sharpshooting from the 3 that will only make his team more lethal. Time will tell, but early opinions show it is a win for both sides.

7) Harden, Crowder, 2nd round pick to Hawks; Bulls get Oladipo, Not-Draymond Green, a high 20s 1st
Impact: YUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE
Analysis: Bulls, as I mentioned earlier, are setting up for the future. If they decline all team options next off-season, they could have close to $70mil in cap space. His eyes are set on re-signing Galinari, KD and possibly Love (if he opts out). He figures to be a major player in RFA, UFA, ALL THE FAs. Oladipo was blessed this off-season with a talent upgrade, and looks to be a good 2-way star in this league possibly. This could still play out in the Bulls favor. Now for the Hawks... the move Oladipo in favor of a player that is sizable and versatile in Harden. His athleticism is off the charts. If he gets any of that magic Hawk training camp juice from Draymond, we could see ANOTHER Hawk dynasty in the making.... *sigh* BUT, there is one foe that the Hawks will have to face very soon: the Tax man. And with Harden, Middleton and Draymond all needing a payday. Look for the Hawks to be potentially capstrapped for the foreseeable future.

Negative Nancies would say that this trade could potentially gut a sizeable amount of the Bucks offense by losing Collison & Anderson; similarly the Jazz are losing their floor general and best defender. Time will tell, but early opinions show it is a win for both sides. DISCLAIMER: other opinions claim this is a trape.
Updating due to public pushback.

Doug, you can claim 5 points toward the 2015-16 cap.
