Welcome! It's that time again, and this deadline day promises to be one of the most exciting yet, with most predicting that it'll come down to the last sec-

...

......

.........

............fine. To be honest, nobody's really expecting much beyond tiny deals and cap-saving maneuvers. Most teams are over the cap and locked into whatever plans they have, making fair, logical, impactful deals tough to achieve. Will someone surprise us? I doubt it, but you never know...

Oh look, here's our first cap-saving move of the day. Thanks to Bynum and Miles, LA's going to be on the wrong side of the cap for quite some time. Any cash saved is crucial. Things are a bit more interesting for the Magic, as Mills and Sene could be useful bench options next season if the plan is to make the most out of Lee and Mayo's contract years next season. It's probably more likely that their options will both be declined though. The Magic seem ready to move into the Clarkson era. The 2016 Lakers 2nd is another intriguing piece, as:

1) We have no idea how deep these new draft classes will be.
2) The Lakers might still be a lotto team next season, making the 2nd a high pick, which is excellent for snatching talent that barely slid out of the 1st Round.

It's a solid little deal all-around, really.

I accept. Glad we could finally get a deal done, it was great working with you. Good luck to you! :)
Oh look, here's our first little tiny deal of the day. Orlando again? Hmm. False9's really hedging his bets with these 2nd rounders, and it's not a bad strategy. Of course, it all depends on the quality of the draft classes. For the Wizards, it's just another one of those low-cost, low-risk deals that they seem to love. Teague isn't anything special, but is a much more experienced backup PG than Cory Joseph. Another fun fact: Lamar Odom is the only Wizards draft pick of the last 25 seasons to play more than 3 years in DC.

Bulls accept. Terrible and painstaking negotiations, Andy.
False9 again? Wow.

Burke's interesting solely because of his youth, which gives him a small chance of sticking around past this season. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a bit of tryout time. Other than that little nugget of interest, yawn.

Ibaka, James, and Jonas are available for sizeable offers. Casspi looking for a similar player and points.

Gary Neal not available until next year post RFA
So it's no secret that the Heat have been looking to lighten their heavy tax load, but you know it's serious when there's a "points list." Knight for 5 points is the obvious standout here. While he hasn't really shown much, like, at
all during his first 4 years and will command a hefty chunk of RFA protection (thus making him a bit unappealing to teams with certain amounts of upcoming free cap) he's still an interesting piece to have in pocket..which is actually why I think he'll stay in Miami. I just wanted to use the .gif to be honest. :D

Well this is odd. The same 3 teams have provided most of the ammo so far this trade deadline. Word is that Thomas Robinson received enough interest to make Tray believe he was worth more than 10 points...and he was right. Very nice pickup for LA, who lower their bill, get money, and pick up cheap future help. Strange move from Washington, as it appears to be an odd mix of future-proofing their roster, despair over the futility of trying to draft well, saltiness over being considered a "wing-heavy" team, regret of letting Patrick Patterson go, and a heavy dash of YOLO. Apparently, they do not fear the tax man with how frivolously they're throwing points away. Time will tell how wise such hopeful arrogance is.

And to the surprise of absolutely no one, here's another LA deal gaining and saving them money. Let us clap and move on.

What's interesting from the Warriors' standpoint is that they pick up two wings with Afflalo pretty much done. Thompson in particular is a very solid pickup, as he's a talented young 3pt sniper on a team who loves to shoot threes. I really like this move for both parties.

Glad we could get this done. Raby.
I really don't know what to say here. This doesn't seem quite like a random deal, but all the players involved are average at best and don't look like they'll play a notable role in either team's future plans. So I will default to my usual sarcastic habits and, instead of properly analyzing this, will now post a .gif mocking this deal.

Both sides couldn't wait to get this done, and for a dinky little deal it's not too bad, actually. Dat boi False9 picks up more points for future reference, and the Hornets snag a bench rebounder. Solid enough.

Well damn. I actually like this more for the Magic now, as Larkin's a solid - if undersized - prospect. But newly-acquired PG Trey Burke just saw his small shot at glory go up in smoke (unless he gets a tryout at SG). It's a familiar feeling for him.

Nice solid trade between two #SLOE veterans. Despite their talent, Wig had no use whatsoever for Gee & Landry, and will certainly find the 2015 draft pick to be a cheaper Gatorade-fetcher than what it'd cost to retain those two. Wig also gets to see if Watson's more to his liking at backup PG than Wade...if he doesn't get cut. 78's done an amazing job at squeezing every single win he can from his roster, and adding more talent only gives him more options. Look for Landry to play 4 & 3 and Gee to play 3 & 2. Depending on how they play during T-Mac's absence, we could see some really intriguing rotations ahead that might help the Rockets keep pace in the West and continue defying expectations in the playoffs.

Blazers accept. Dealin' Doug strikes again.
Sonuva...I thought I was through with this! It looks like the last trade of the day is the biggest, as All-Star Carlos Boozer heads back out West to team with Derrick Rose. This seems like a desperation move from the Blazers, who are currently on the outside looking in for the playoffs. This turns them into a very real threat in the second half of the season, but it feels like we've seen this before, if not with the Blazers' recent history, then with the Spurs' acquisition of Randolph last season. As usual, the playoffs will either validate or vilify this move for Portland, and Rose will once again have to make do with two short-term vets as his running mates. Withey is a solid prospect though.

For the Bucks, they're now the deepest and most flexible team in the league, with a multitude of options going forward. Does Kyrie move to PG? Will Thad and Draymond form a dynamic defensive duo at the 3/2? Is Jerebko insurance in case Faried gets paid in RFA? Where does Gortat fit in? Who gets exposed in the expansion draft? What does this mean for Oladipo and Collison? Will Milwaukee rise or fall in the standings? There's far more questions than answers, but that's how Quail likes it, so we'll see.

Given that both teams are now firmly within their comfort zone, I'd have to consider this a win-win deal. I don't think the eventual results matter as much here as they would normally. A good finish to a otherwise dry deadline day...and that little bit of alliteration reminded me that I should've done this in my "Deadline Day Dateline" format.

Thanks for reading, y'all. Later.
