2014-2015 #SLOE Pick 'Em - Sim 5
Posted: Tue May 23, 2017 2:01 am
We ring in the New Year at #SLOE Pick 'Em with 14 games on January 2nd, and what would a New Year celebration be without a countdown. Pick winners for any 10 of these 14 games and rank your choices from 10 (most certain) to 1 (least certain). Each ranking is also like a wager. You get 10 points for being right on your most certain, 9 on your second most certain, and so on, so forth.
Simple enough, right? In fact, that may be too simple for you lot with your separate point banks and proposals to grow your players.
So, to add a wrinkle, you can ONLY pick teams that meet one of the following conditions, but you get DOUBLE points if you correctly pick a team that meets 2 of these conditions and TRIPLE points if you pick a team that meets ALL of these conditions.
1) They are playing an opponent with a better record
2) They are playing on the road
3) They have not won more than 5 of their last 10 games
Let's take a look at the schedule. I'll put one asterisk for each condition met next to each team. If a team has no asterisks next to it, you won't get any points for correctly picking them, so don't pick 'em.
1/2/2015
Timberwolves** @ Trailblazers**
Hornets** @ Knicks**
Kings*** @ Pacers
Nets** @ Pistons**
Mavericks*** @ Suns
Warriors* @ Lakers**
Magic*** @ Spurs*
Heat* @ Bucks*
Rockets** @ Wizards
76ers*** @ Cavaliers*
Bulls* @ Supersonics**
Hawks* @ Jazz**
So say you pick the Jazz to beat the Hawks as your 6 point pick, and the Jazz win. You get points for that. Say you pick the 76ers to upset the Cavs as your 3 point pick. You get 9 points for that if Philly emerges victorious. Say you pick Pacers over Kings as your most confident, 10 point pick. You get 0 points for that. The Wizards have no asterisks, ya dingus.
Got it now? You can see my official pick at the bottom of the post for an example.
Once again, EVERYONE can play every week. The best score from your division will be ranked against the best score from the rest of the divisions, so participation can only help your division's cause. And remember, you'll get points at the end of the season for having good attendance. Here's how the participation points break down.
Participate in 11+ Pick 'Ems: 5 points
Participate in 10 Pick 'Ems: 4 points
Participate in 9 Pick 'Ems: 3 points
Participate in 8 Pick 'Ems: 2 points
Participate in 7 Pick 'Ems: 1 point
Participate in 6 or fewer Pick 'Ems: No soup for you
Furthermore, if your division has the most cash at the end of Pick 'Em, you get 5 points...UNLESS YOU DON'T PARTICIPATE IN ANY PICK 'EMS. Here's the standings after week 1.
1st Place: Atlantic - $1500
2nd Place: Pacific - $1450
1st Place: Central - $1000
4th Place: Midwest - $650
For this sim, we'll keep the same prize structure as last time.
1st Place: $900
2nd Place: $500
3rd Place: $200
4th Place: The pride in knowing that even though you didn't come through, the lack of participation awards means it's not your fault that the country is turning into a nation of PC sissy boys.
For an example of best practices in formatting, here is my official entry:
10. Nets
9. Spurs
8. Knicks
7. Timberwolves
6. Warriors
5. Jazz
4. Supersonics
3. Mavericks
2. Rockets
1. Bucks
Entries are due on Wednesday, May 24nd at 5pm Central Time
