I present to you the top candidate for 6MOY: Shaun Livingston (all stats are post-Sim 10, with 8 games left).

Image

Mr. Livingston came into the season starting for us at the 3. However after a rocky start (1-7) and 8-11 as a starter, we decided to shake things up and bring Shaun off our bench since the bench really didn't have much of a scoring punch and we were being forced to start one of our top bench men (Kenneth Faried) after Enes Kanter was injured early on. Man, has it paid off! Since that 8-11 start, we are now 36-19 with Livingston coming off the bench. Our turnaround has largely come from his embracing his new role and being a true leader off the bench for this young team.

What are some top traits in a 6th man? Scoring punch, efficiency, stat sheet filler, versatile, immediate stop gap. Shaun fits every single one of those in spades.

Scoring Punch:
Off the bench, Livingston has been lighting it up providing 14.3ppg. He knows where he is most effective and takes what he is given. 2nd in mid-range shot attempts on the team, he's making 45% of those (good for 2nd best percentage, behind Vasquez). When he decides to go inside, he's the 2nd most efficient inside scorer on the team. When it comes to the 3pt game, he stays away and leaves that to Kyrie and Kemba. He knows where he plays best, which leads us to his...

Efficiency:
Shaun leads the team in FG%, with 54.1% on the season. In fact, he's ranked #15 in FG% in the league, sandwiched between the likes of Lebron James and Al Jefferson. This season has been his best FG% season of his career. His TS% is a whopping 57.1%, he maintains a respectable 1.25 PPS, and lastly he posts a 18.5 PER. Efficiency is the name of his game, but it transcends his scoring as a...

Stat Sheet Filler
Livingston is filling it up. 5.5 rebounds per game, 4.4 assists per game, 1.2 steals per game. His AST/TO Ratio is 2.65 (better than some of the league's top assisting guards like Collison, Wall, and Westbrook) on a 18.4 Usage. It's even a better AST/TO Ratio than our own starting PG, Kemba Walker, meaning he is a great...

Immediate Stop Gap:
Shaun can instantly step in in the even that someone goes down and fouls out (which we've seen a lot of in many of our high scoring multi-OT affairs this season). What's great is that he can be immediately be plugged in at a few positions because he's so...

Versatile:
With the size of a forward and the athleticism and quickness of a point guard, Shaun can step in at both guard spots, small forward, and even the power forward spot in our super small high-motion offensive sets. He has the skillset to be an asset anywhere and can truly make a difference coming off the bench wherever we need him most.

When it comes down to voting for the 6MOY award in a few days and you see his name, please consider Shaun as your top vote for 6MOY. He truly deserves it, because without him in this role, the Bucks may have never made the push we had after such a rough start.

This post was brought to you by the campaign for Shaun Livingston, "the League's 6th Man".

Why are we voting during the playoffs? I think we should be wrapping up voting before the first sim of the playoffs. Why the sudden change?

I nominate Ben Gordon for 6th Man of the Year. Here is a link to his page: http://pbsl.ijbl.net/players/player487.htm

Unlike many 6th man candidates I'm sure you'll hear about soon, Gordon isn't a starter marauding as a 6th man. He's a Y/Y scorer who has never started this season and plays just under half the game (23.6 minutes) behind Stephen Curry and Anthony Morrow. But his contributions at this position have been substantial and worthy of 6MOY.

Gordon is instant offense, scoring 13.7 points in 23.7 minutes. That's an average of .58 points per minute. For comparison, the 25th leading scorer, James Harden, scores .59 points per minute. But Gordon isn't simply chucking. He's having by far his most efficient season ever. He has a 56.8% TS%, a 44% FG%, and a 42% 3P% (14th in the league right now). He has his highest PER ever of 17.1, and has a 5.6 EWA.

Most importantly, he runs an incredibly efficient offense. Despite the fact that he plays at least half of his minutes without Steph Curry (during which, he is the point guard and is running the offense), he has an offensive efficiency rating of 108.8, a rating that would tie for the 4th best mark in the league.

For these reasons, I feel as though Ben Gordon deserves to be the 2013 PBSL 6th Man of the Year.
