Hall of Fame Discussion: Ringless Members

I see a lot of discussion about how a ring is the ultimate achievement that grants membership to the Hall of Fame. Some guys who have put up serious stats are not given consideration because they weren't winners. I want to examine six members of our HOF that do not have rings, and see how the group feels about them.

Here are the six members with links to their final page.

David Robinson
Stacey Augmon
Reggie Miller
Charles Barkley
Karl Malone
Michael Jordan

Consider these questions:

1. Do you think in retrospect these members do not belong? Which ones?
2. If you think they do belong, what makes them belong?

In what universe is Charles Barkley a HoF'er but Deron Williams isn't? Barkley had 2 (TWO) good seasons in the league then withered.

Bwahahahahahaahahahaha

I think every one of them belongs because they were among the top players at their position for years and/or made multiple, lengthy playoff runs.

I think rings are a very lofty standard, but I do prefer to see good playoff runs.

So here's my reasoning/thinking with these older creation players:

We drafted some of these guys in their prime. Jordan and Malone, for example, were the top guys for the first two seasons before the inevitable happened: they turned 30 and one was a victim of a witch hunt.

We're going to have to look at these guys from 1990-95ish. Were they the top players in the league during the time frame? Did they at least help their team win?

With a few seasons of these players in their prime, there is only one ring to be given out a season.

I think rings is a really big detail with fring HOF level players. For instance, Gary Payton (maybe the most polarizing non HOF player). His numbers with 2 rings probably get him in, but due to his GM's inability to surround him with talent, he's not in. that;'s frankly the reason Deron is even being discussed as a potential HOF player and not a sure-fire HOF player, GM's lack of want to win. Out of this group you have :

David Robinson- Dominant
Stacey Augmon- Dominant
Charles Barkley- Dominant
Karl Malone- Dominant
Michael Jordan- Dominant
Reggie Miller- Here's the only one who's numbers and lack of a ring really kind of sets off a buzzer to me in the 'Gary Payton test'
