#SLOE: People's Basketball Sim League

I feel like in the current point system there is no reward for winning a championship other than 4 points. I would like to propose that a 16 point award be given to champions. The champ will naturally get 16 points for winning it all throughout the playoffs by claiming "win a round in playoffs" points 4 times. I think it would be fair that as champ you should see something more than just those 4 points for winning it all. So how about taking that 16 points and then adding a "Win Championship" category for 16 points (basically doubling their earnings for winning it all).

It's been talked about a lot since the league changed it's points system 10+ seasons ago. And it's a common criticism come NBA Finals. If passed, I think all champs under that have won under this new point system should be allowed to retro claim the 16 points as well. This is an addendum to the proposal. I would definitely like to see this going forward. I wouldn't mind personally if it was retro.

As a 4 time champion , Ivan attest you get more than enough points when you win a ring . You get points for wins, playoff wins, and win streak and typically that's a pretty heavy loot.

So looking at my last championship season:
I got 60 points
Then add in activity/ presser/ duties/ media and you can add another 30 points if you want .. 90 points and it's really hard to start curbing spending for these teams with the tax.

I'll also note , there's never been a 3 peat champ w our system and I think some of the reason behind that is our point system and how punitive the tax system is .. imo it's a good thing .. but I'm more than willing to be convinced !

Right but you get all those points if you are a top-tier elite team. But look back at a couple of the surprise championship runs we saw (Suns comes to mind). They got 3pts for streak (longest: 7), 10pts for wins (51), 16 pts for won playoff series (4) vs the Hawks (who they beat in the finals) 4pts for streak (longest: 9), 11pts for wins (58), 12 pts for won playoff series (3). That's a 2 point difference between champ and runner up. Not much of a reward.

I didn't even take into consideration the division winner (which Wig was and Messi wasn't)... so the point difference for team success in a season nets out to 0 (+2 to wig for winning division)

And honestly, i don't think you should even consider media or ancillary points (responsibility, even individual player awards) in this conversation. Anyone can get those, teams that suck still could have a player make the all nba team. Winning a championship in this league is not easy and GMs should be rewarded.

That's fair , but I do. We talk about points as being something to spend.

So when we look at spending for championship level teams they have the option to pay the tax/ insure players/ improve players .. to keep the league balanced and make sure people can't do all these things while supporting a +30 m cap figure and win a few rings I think the reward should be modest .. I honestly do believe winning a championship is a reward of its own ; the points aren't the reason I want to win.

I also think the wig Messi case isn't happening very often.

I did not forget about this but I would like to see this proposal discussed a little more in this thread (there were some Skype discussions but not everyone has access to those) and cleaned up with exactly what the retroactive claim would entail before it is voted on. Voting will be held on this next season if this is cleaned up.
