The GM of the Year criteria has always been sort of fuzzy. It has relied heavily on who made the biggest splash that season or the biggest improvement in a season span.

...but what if it took more time. Isn't that GMs work as impressive to know when it is time to pull the trigger on a deal and when it isn't? What if that produces exponential improvements and puts a team in the heart of the most contested division race in the league?

For that reason, I nominate myself, TRAYWITHANA - GM of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Let's start off with the moves that were made this year:
Jermaine O'Neal for 6th man frontrunner, Shawn Marion. The goal with this move was to take an expiring asset and turn it into an assassin off the bench. What it has culminated into is the benching of the maxed out rebounder, Reggie Evans, in favor of a starting lineup that has resulted in a 24-1 run late in the season. Most GMs wouldn't look past that ridiculous contract, but TrayWithAnA isn't like most GMs. He saw his production. He knew what Shawn can do. He knew how salty the saltiest GM would be if he used that weapon against him. Most will look at Darth and see the big splash, but this is truly TWA's best work this season.

Moving the Lakers 2008 first for Anfernee Hardaway. The Lakers weakest position is easily PG, but with Conley holding his own at the starting 1, Hardaway comes off an IR stent to make it even more impossible to catch the Lakers when the bench comes on.

Now to speak to the slow hand:

This was TWAs first full-season as a Laker. Kobe and company have let it be known that they were gonna let this thing grow. Looks like the absolute best move at this point. The 2008-09 lakers are all GREEN/BLUE everything, and we got here by not dealing everyone. The core is still here, and 24-1 later, you see how dangerous they are.

Clearly, this is the right person to represent your league as GMOY. He has always been close. Now justify his existence. Vote TWA in the Primary.

I'm nominating myself for GMOY.

The Milwaukee Bucks are on top of the East and looking good to capture the division and #1 seed (barring any injuries like the past few seasons). Last season, we were able to positions ourselves outside of the cap, which allowed us to have some flexibility in the offseason. However, 2 moves that we made really set us up for success, and those two moves can be attributed to opportunistic and persistent trade negotiations. When Tony Parker and Marcus Banks became available in the off-season, I was quick to make an offer. Tony Parker has come in and proven to be a YUUUUUUUUGE diference maker for my team (his cost was Shannon Brown, who was y/g befrore TC, and the Bucks 2001 1st). Marcus Banks came over to our team and brought athleticism and guard depth (his cost was points and Kosta Koufos, our 24th pick in this draft). On top of that, we brought back Jarvis Hayes and brought in other talent like Brendan Haywood and Eddie Gill; these aren't flashy moves, but moves that were needed to provide the necessary depth and solidify our team.

Some GMs have made flashy moves and it's catapulted their teams to have successful seasons, and for that they rightfully deserve your consideration. But the moves that I made were quiet and under the radar, but without them, my team would not be tied for the best record with 12 games left on the season (all but 2 road games are behind us too).

2nd in offensive efficiency, 2nd in defensive efficiency, 2nd in eFG%, 1st highest point differential, tied for league best record (65-17).

I'll update as the season progresses in the event of anything changing.

UPDATE: Edits in bold

I'd like to nominate traywithana; he did not have an op yet still challenged for the toughest division in the league. He also made many aggressive moves unlike other teams who rested on their laurels. Vote tray , it's elementary my dear "Watson"

Last year, I went 22-60. I finished with the second worst record in the league. This year, I went 49-33 and ended up with the fifth seed in the east.

Going into the draft, I had two glaring needs:power forward and point guard. I fell a few spots in the draft lottery and by the time my pick got to me, all of the elite point guards had been taken. The only elite players left were centers. Having my eyes on Serge Ibaka, I decided to get as much value for my pick as possible. I traded for Jared Dudley and a later first round pick which ended up being ibaka. Considering I missed on all of the big point guards of that year, draft day could not have gone better by getting a young player for shooting guard depth and the power forward for the future.

In Rfa, I retained all Jefferson and I only added a little depth during FA. My big move came during this time when I traded Monta Ellis for the established Baron Davis. Monta was taking a very long time to develop and since I had just picked up Dudley in the draft, I had the assets to move him. Also, seeing as I just paid Jefferson, retaining Ellis next year would have put me in cap hell for three years straight. So through that trade, I solidified my point guard position for the future. Heading into the season, I had fixed all of my weaknesses going forward.

The season had its up and downs. We started out strong then Jared Dudley got hurt for an extended period. We lost most of our games during that time. However, we stayed close to the division race. By the time Dudley came back, the end of the season was looming. We ended up finishing one game back in the division having ended the season on a 15-3 run.

Al Jefferson is the computer named most improved player. Lebron James and Baron Davis both won player of the week twice this year. Lebron won player of the month for April. Baron led the league in steals and is top five in assists.

The Heat deserve your vote not just for the massive win differential, but for all of the trades and accomplishments this team has achieved this season. I didn't just set up a championship team this season, but I have all of my key players on contract for the next three seasons.

I'd like to nominate myself because Chad refused to do so. He's a little shy but I'm not. So vote for me dammit.
