Milwaukee Bucks 08-09 Presser

GM Quailmen: Greetings all. Once again I stand before you after another season of disappointment. We did our best, but unfortunately injuries derailed our title hopes and dreams. Ron got injured a month out of the playoffs, and Amare got injured a week before. Fortunately Ron was able to come back. But Amare's absence was too much to make up for against a deep team like the Celtics.

GM Quailmen: As always, the past is in the past. And now we look to the future. And the future is looking quite bright once again. We have retooled our team while keeping our core in place and are once again ready to compete for not only the division crown, but also our first NBA title.

GM: A quick recap of our offseason... we saw some familiar faces such as Shannon Brown and Nick Van Exel head elsewhere. We had emergent needs to fill our squad prior to Free Agency before we re-signed Ron to a max deal and ate up our cap. So with our 20 or so million in cap space, we shipped out our future pick and Shannon Brown in order to poach a starting point guard off of a division rival squad... Tony Parker! But we didn't stop there. We utilized our 2008 draft selection, Kosta Koufos, and some cash consideration in order to acquire more bench depth at the guard position... Ladies and Gentlemen... Marcus Banks! This was all before FA too! In Free Agency, we brought back Ron and Jarvis, while adding some depth down low in the name of a familiar face... Brendan Haywood. Brendan assured us that there is no ill-will after having dealt him away years earlier; he even said don't even bother putting a no trade clause in his contract because he fully expects to be traded again before season end... what a character (he's probably right).

GM: All that said, we have high hopes to take over the Central and the East this season. Had injuries not been a problem, we would have easily worn yet again the Central division crown. But those opportunistraping Hawks decided to make a late season run, as our squad simply ran out of gas. But we are back with a vengeance a look forward to another season and hopefully can continue to keep those big-headed Kings off the throne for one more year.

GM: Any questions?

GWR: Brendan Haywood has seemed to have a career revival in the past few years. What does he mean to your team?

I'm not going to beatWhat around the bush. Every question in Milwaukee starts and stops with ring talk. What gives you confidence you can get a ring this year that hasn't been done in your past?

We are excited to have him on board. Both he and Jeff Foster are going to work into a rotation at the center position. Between the two, we are excited to see some improvement on the boards.

I feel like every season we are right there in the thick of things. However something always goes wrong, whether it's the refs fixing games (Sixers series a couple season back), injuries (last season), or what have you. However, with our core, we have the fortitude to be right up there. Our team is easily 9-10 players deep. Many of those players could start on other teams. Assuming the injury bug doesn't bite us like a son of a King, then we should be poised for another post-season run at a championship. Anything less is a failure; we are past the "growing stage". Our team is in it's prime and matured state. Championship or bust this season, or there may be some shake ups.

Do you think you need one more big deal to ensure you can beat out the Hornets and Hawks? Is their any truth to the rumor Amare could be on the move in exchange for a better defensive big man?

The Hornets and the Hawks? What is this, a State Farm commercial? I'm not worried about them. Amare is available, but his price is hefty. 2-time reigning MIP, athletic freak, and a consistent contributor to our team... that better defensive big man better be something fierce. Look at Amare's athleticism. The only other player in this league that had better athleticism traits was Shaq in his prime. Amare is 5pts in the STR category for being right up there with him.

Random Reporter: With Amare reportedly dropping off a bit in TC and the tandem of Artest & Battier getting older, is there any pressure to win now?

If Amare hadn't been hurt and you made it to the finals, would you have beat the Nuggets? Why or why not?

Unequivocally, yes. Because that's how confident we were as a squad at 100%
