1999 Bulls S&T Arvydas Sabonis to the Warriors for 10 points

RFA bid: $7,800,001; 10%; 2; Team Option

Warriors position: Looking for another championship. They had Kemp and were trying to compete with his massive contract.

Bulls position: Last in division. They were starting a young team to build around Kobe Bryant and Mike Bibby. The young in NBA years but old in age Sabonis did not really fit the gameplan going forward.

This trade is all about the player. Sabonis became an anchor for a four year run with the Warriors, including a NBA Finals appearance.

2005 Hornets S&T Shane Battier to the Jazz for Andre Iguodala, Andre Kirilenko, Jazz 2006 first (traded)

RFA bid: Jazz Sign SF Shane Battier for $60,488,404 over 4 years.

Jazz Position: Tim Duncan wasn’t getting any younger. So, the Jazz looked to try to find that extra piece that would make them finally that contender they have had the potential to be for years.

Hornets Position: A team rife with talent that couldn’t piece it together, the Hornets decided to try to switch around some pieces to find some cohesion

The Jazz first was inconsequential because it was so late. Shane Battier was an important piece in the always competitive Jazz team. AK47 continued his journeyman career through this trade. The Hornets got Andre Iguodala, who just resigned this year in his own RFA is a key piece to the puzzle that led the Hornets to an Eastern Conference crown.

2003 Pistons S&T James Posey to the Suns for Mark blount, Suns 2004 first (#1 – Dwight Howard), and Suns 2005 second

RFA bid:

Suns Position: An extremely underperforming team for the talent, the Suns definitely needed a shake up. They traded away top player Keith Van Horn, and then (for some reason) also traded away assets in a future draft pick. Posey in his second year with the squad helped them to a good record and a playoff run, but the damage had been done by then.

Pistons Position: A middle of the pack type of team, the Pistons needed a rebuild and they were ready to unload a top player.

This is all about the draft pick. The suns expected James Posey to show up and become an immediate difference maker. He led them to the third worst record in the NBA, which jumped in the lottery to become the #1 pick that year. This pick resulted in franchise big man Dwight Howard. James Posey went on to lead the suns to a few nice years before leaving town, but the real prize was the young star in Howard. The Pistons also had the second pick in the draft, which lead them to get a PG and C for the future.

That's a quick look at the analytics as well as my top 3 most influential S&Ts in the ten years. I do have to say I am intrigued with the most recent one between the magic and the kings, but lets see where the young guys develop for each team.

Posey's career in sloe is similar to that of his IRL... brought into hornets to be a different maker, but turned into a slouch.

This was my first week in the league and it was pretty much a trape until I got the number one pick from it. Good times.
