Hall of Fame

Xist's article got me thinking of something we had wanted to do when we started this league: hall of fame. This is our 10th season, and we have already had at least three first round pick from the creation draft retire. Soon, we'll get even more who decide to call it quits. I'm not sure what the voting requirements should be (if you are someone new like Trell, should you get a vote for someone like Magic who was dominating 10 seasons ago? I just wanted to throw this out there, because there is one sure-fire hall of famer who retired last season and a couple who could have a case. I wanted to let everyone else brainstorm as well.

We've been working on it. I'm in charge of the committee. We're hashing out details and voting stuff. Do you think we should vote on the way voting/nominating is done?

I'm not sure, I just wanted to bring up that 1) there should be a HOF and 2) who should get a vote?

The second one IMO is what needs to be discussed because, like I said, newer people can look at accomplishments, but they weren't in the league when Magic was the 2 time Finals MVP or when Stockton was one of the 3 original OPs or Karl Malone averaging 40 a game.

Here was the original idea. There would be a committee made up of 4 people. The committee would discuss each season which retired players (no 5 year limit here) we feel is worthy of the Hall of Fame. From there, we would give a "class" of nominees.

Once the class was announced (presumably over the All Star break), the GMs would vote on whether they felt the nominee deserved to be in the Hall of Fame. To make the Hall of Fame, the candidate would need 70% yes votes.

If new GMs voting is something you're concerned about, we can ask new GMs who weren't around to abstain from voting. Since it's a percentage, it shouldn't affect the voting too much.

Sounds like a HOF Shadow Council to me

Suggestion:

Each year every owner gets to make one nomination.

The committee's job is to pare down the nominations to create a ballot with a manageable number of nominees for voting (say, no more than 10 nominees)

Nominees due by all star break. Ballot is released during playoffs (gives non playoff teams something to do)

Nominees on the ballot with over 75% yes votes get into the HOF

Nominees on the ballot with over 50% yes votes (but under 75%) are automatically considered for next year's ballot ("free" nomination that doesn't cost any owner a yearly nomination).

A player may be nominated multiple times (maybe there are 12 deserving guys but the ballot only holds 10. Those 2 nominated but left out of the ballot can be nominated again the following season.)

But better because I'm a part of it.

By the way, I love Wig's suggestion and support it 100%

PLEASE DISCUSS

I like the idea of the HOF. I like Wig's suggestion on how it should work above.
