2007 New Orleans Hornets Media Day

After all these years, that banner was the symbol of our hard work, skill, and determination. We had to make some difficult choices along that road but each challenge that was met our way, the play of our foundation was up to the task. Zach Randolph, Andre Iguodala, and Antawn Jamison never gave up. I'm damn proud of that accomplishment now hanging in the rafters and I'd be remiss if we didn't congratulate our opponents for defeating us in the finals, the Denver Nuggets.

Now that that's out of the way, we know the East is once again a land mine of difficult challenges. The Atlantic presents a lot of talented teams and in our division, the Bucks are still a top team a long with the young gun Pistons who we faced in Round 2 that have a bright future ahead of them as well with their core. I feel confident though with the tweaks we made in the offseason, we can be even more competitive and potentially more dangerous in the season ahead for our veteran laiden squad.

We brought in multi-time All Star, Chris Webber to add another scoring touch down in the paint and also brought back Jamison to hopefully see him end his hall of fame career in a New Orleans uniform. We also brought back a trusted hand in Anthony Johnson to run the point and with our young tandem of Iggy and ZBo, this team can accomplish great things in the upcoming season ahead.

With hard work, we can accomplish great things and that banner is all the justification we need. Now we have the target on our backs. We know what we are in for and we welcome all challenges.

Now let's hear the questions from the masses.

Congrats of your 1st Eastern Conference crown! How confident do you feel in your squad's ability to run it back this year? Do you think your path is easier or harder?

You obviously have a super talented first four but there is a huge drop off looking down the depth chart to 5,6,7. Do you plan to make some moves for depth or are you happy with your current role players.

Random Reporter: Was there any hesitation in offering the 31-year-old Jamison a 5 year supermax? One would imagine that such a deal is rather risky and limits your teambuilding options going forward.

Was it always the plan to let Booth walk?

Tell us about new addition Greg Buckner. He has always seemed to be an over-achiever, do you expect the same thing this season despite his drop after TC?

Thank you very much. As long as we can remain healthy, I think this team is talented enough to run it back and at the very least compete amongst the talented teams within the Central division and make it back to the playoffs. I think our front court has the ability to be one of the best in the conference and should dominate the boards on a night to night basis. More rebounds means more chances to score. I think the path to get that far in the playoffs is always difficult because as the West takes a step back and the talent transitions to the East, I think it's harder but we are always up to do what it takes to get back. Once you get a taste of that glory, it's never enough.

I think that with our cap situation, we will attempt to make some moves to address our depth as the year gets going.... We definitely don't want to be in a constant mode of being in the Lux tax penalty zone. We searched the waiver wire and feel confident that our depth pieces right now can bend but not break the leads we establish. Some veteran talent got older and a step slower but the talent is still there to maximize certain strengths and minimize weaknesses.

Going in, we posted a league message that could've been misconstrued as it saying "WE ARE DEFINITELY NOT BRINGING BACK JAMISON! GIVE US ALL YOUR YOUNG TALENT NOW!!"

Which couldn't have been further from the truth. There were some that asked what our plans were in private but the idea always was that in order to secure getting him back in the fold was that we needed the Super Max. Jamison expressed his desire to stay and really wanted to end his career in New Orleans once we acquired him. You look at certain talents across the league like a Tim Duncan of Penny or even Shawn Kemp, and there's not a doubt that you bring them back. Jamison is that special a player and has an entire house worth of accomplishments throughout his career. We were always going to bring back Jamison. That was never in question.

We really liked having Calvin Booth around and in many ways was our unsung MVP throughout much of last year with the impact he brought to the team defensively speaking. We offered him two very fair contracts given his age and strengths on the court and both times, it wasn't what he was looking for. We wish him luck in Vancouver or Memphis or wherever he is.

We are satisfied to bring in Chris Webber and hoping he can be an effective weapon in the post with ZBo and Jamison.

For whatever reason, a random fan hacked our computers and thought it was funny that he left up a status like that while some employee left his Facebook up. The fan has been issued a lifetime ban and the employee was fired for being an idiot.

The fan was probably from NY and just bitter because his team has had a history of being inadequate these last few years.

Sadly, during the hack the fan also tried to show a picture of his girlfriend as well professing his love for her as well during the hack. Thankfully the IT team was able to block the majority of the post....

But since you asked the question and reporters have to ask the tough questions, direct all your future hatred towards the Nets leader and fan base for this picture that is about to be revealed.

Random Dallas reporter:

Making it to the Finals last season was a great accomplishment. Everyone in Dallas was happy to see Antawn make it back, although in another losing effort. Do you think you made the right moves this offseason to get back to the Finals and win it this time?

I think we have basically the same squad we did since we acquired Antawn just trade a little bit of defense for a little bit of offense with changing Booth out for Webber. I think we have a talented team for sure and a lot of it will depend on how the season breaks out. I think we can and I think people now consider us among the best in the conference along with teams like the Bucks and Celtics and 76ers like we belong now. It'll be interesting for sure but our phone is always active so I'd still like to lower our tax hit/address our bench as the season goes on. I'm happy with our team though going forward.

Winter arrives every year. It's a matter of how you survive it and avoid being the next Jon Snow and that is how you slay the wicked beasts that await your next move.

Do you have any special giveaways on the docket this season? There are only so many times we as fans can receive a white tshirt with the local ambulance chaser's logo on the back. How do you plan on mixing it up for your fanbase?

We figured some stuff for giveaways features giving away King Cake to giving away Iggy Pops in all different varieties and flavors. ZBo Gumbo.... Jamison Jam.....Webber Wraps.....Enough about food, it's making me hungry.... But seriously, there's tons of stuff we can give away including Hugo the Hornet dolls. Maybe a honeycomb from an actual Hive. All sorts of ideas.
