Protected Draft Picks

I propose we abolish protection on draft picks after this season (picks already protected would be grandfathered in and retain their protection). We're not keeping close enough tabs on them to prevent things like this:
viewtopic.php?f=24&t=146&p=1439#p1439 from happening.
We've also seen protection used to skirt the "no trading consecutive years' picks" rules with things like top-28 protection on a pick so the pick being traded is "really" the following year's pick and the protection is just there to satisfy the Stepien Rule.
If you're going to trade away a pick, you need to be prepared to assume the risk. If you're worried it will be a top pick,
you shouldn't be trading it away. Plus, it's a whole lot of extra work to keep track of them all.

I'm not sure we should abolish it. I think we should just pay closer attention and fine the shit out of teams who do an illegal trade.

Maybe we should just appoint a "Pick Protection tracker," similar to what Inner does with the "No Train list."

Feature exists. It didn't help us on this one.

It should be noted this isn't the first time this has happened either (jangles). I'm not mad at Nick, I am just trying to find a way to avoid this in the future and banning protection seems like the easiest choice.

I don't think we should necessarily abolish because of a slip up. If that's the case, we should've abolished RFA long ago haha. What we need to do is police it more, I agree there. We also need to maybe establish a more clear cut and laid out breakdown of protected picks and what is legal and what isn't.

my trade with the blazers might be invalid as well. If I land in the top 5 this year that would leave me with no 1st round picks for 01/02.

I'm all for abolishing it. Mostly because I hate discussing protection on picks. it's an annoying part of all trade discussions. lol
