Getting Fired

I kind of made a post about this in the Tank Prevention suggestion thread and now I've got a proposal that I would like to see discussed.
As a kid growing up id always play sports games and delve deep into franchise mode, there would be certain goals that would need to be met and if you didnt achieve your objectives there was a potential for repercussions. Its that kind of realism and challenge that makes these sorts of games enjoyable. Even getting fired or moving to a different team was kind of exhilarating and fun too. So this is why im proposing to come up with a system that would take GM's who are sucking currently and have them fired and moved to a different team that also has an opening.
I know that a lot of us get very attached to our teams and would never want to give them up, I understand that point and I love my Pacers but at a certain point you cant be shitty for 7 years in a row without it getting stale. At points throughout the season I go thru the motions especially when I know im out of the playoff hunt, would a GM give it a better effort down the stretch if it meant saving his job and his "beloved" team?
Now the criteria I have for this idea (which is certainly up for discussion)
You can be fired if............
- 5 consecutive losing seasons (2 playoff berths in that span grant 1 more year)
- 4 straight 1st round exits gives you a make or break year the next season where a 2nd round visit will be expected
- Excessive tax penalties, if you have been owing money or several years without a Finals appearance you can get fired
- Making the Finals and then not making at least the 2nd Round for 2 years after that
A GM can petition his firing by "sending a letter" (writing an article) to the team owner clearly outlining his vision and plan for the future. If the letter is deemed worthy it can buy him another year
In this proposal GMs that are fired will NOT go on the waitlist if their is another person waiting. If there is only one GM able to be fired by seasons end (no one to swap) then they will buy themselves another year.
If more than 2 GM's are fired, lets say 4 get the slip, then the GM with the most career accomplishments will get first pick of the teams and so forth.
A GM new to a team will get a minimum of 4 years before they can be fired again but that 5th losing season will see them get the boot again.
Feel free to pick this idea apart and put your two cents in.

Not a fan. This is a game, and training camp can really Frye up plans for teams in one fell swoop. That is nothing in our control.
I don't understand the urge to fire and unseat people. Maybe people want a shake up, but firing or replacing GMs for the sake of doing a bad job is not the answer, in my opinion

Just kinda going with what everyone else has said, and while I like the idea of franchise goals, I would vote no to this idea if it came down to it. I simply don't think that we should be dictating how anyone plays this game and this is now the second idea that is trying to instill that.
You mention things getting stale, and if that truly is the issue, maybe we should look into voluntary team swaps, and coming up with rules for that,as a solution rather than putting people in boxes and saying how they should be playing with arbitrary rules

Fair enough, I expected to be in the minority on this and appreciate those that took the time to read.
Quail I dont think anyone has the "urge" to get rid of people and thats where those who read the tank prevention and this proposal have it wrong, theres a lot of hyperbole going around in these sorts of threads which really can discourage someone from suggesting things.
On something Loco said, if franchise goals were a thing, who sets them? whats the reward (assuming points) and any penalty to not accomplishing them?

Honestly, I think team goals would be a great idea. We have points for in-season player and team rewards, but maybe we should look to add in frachise goals... ones that extend beyond the realm of 1 season.
- points for consecutive playoff appearances
- points for making it to a certain # of wins multiple seasons in a row
OR we could work an incentive program where you hit 2 or 3 milestones, you can get discounted trainings or increased media point allowance (can make 20 points in a season for articles, instead of 15)....
I think more incentives for winning is always a good thing.

I think this idea of a 'carrot' does a better job of incentivizing GMs to reach for goals than the 'stick' of being "fired."
Also, even though the game says we're GM's, I've always thought of sim league as more of an Owner/GM situation - for all intents and purposes, you aren't just the GM, you "own" the team. Even if the fans hate you, they can't get rid of you.
