Balls O’Hard:
Good morning everyone and Welcome to the 76ers Press Conference. Obviously, last year did not end how we wanted it to. We lost to the Orlando Magic in the 2nd round, and wanted to give them the respect they deserved for that defeat. We congratulate them on the victory, their tax bill and wish them well recovering from what was one of the worst cap tragedies of the free world.

Balls O’Hard:
A lot of things went well for us last year and a lot of things did not. We tank Michael Finley and Antonio Daniels for their year of service and regret not beging able to repeat as champions to get them a ring. This offseason, we had a choice to try and resign those two players, along with retaining our RFAs in Louis Scola and Tayshaun Prince, but ultimately decided against it. As you know, we retained Scola and Prince and see a bright future for at least one of them.

Balls O’Hard:
In terms of where the 76ers are as an organization, I would consider us buyers in the market. We think with the foundation of Baron Davis, the continued development of our young guys; added with another outstanding piece would make us contenders. We don’t try and fool ourselves though, at the current moment we are on the outside looking in on the race to be champions.

Balls O’Hard:
In terms of overall landscape of the NBA, we still see the Kings and bucks as the teams to beat. They both are very talented teams and have the salary to match that talent. As far as our division is concerned, we see the Celtics running away with it. They’re strong in almost every area, and if it were not for a few injuries, they may have won it last year. Other than that, Please feel free to ask questions!

GWR: Every year you seem to have an unsung hero come and make big contributions. Who do you think on your roster has the potential to do that this year?

I think Scola takes on a bigger role than people will realize. It's not exactly under the radar though. We're going to give Michael Pietrus a chance to contribute this year so it's very possible he's our guy.

Can you touch on Alonzo Mourning's desire to retire with a champion statement from earlier in the week? Do you think that was a shot at his former team (the Celtics) in that they don't have a chance this year?

I don't want to speak for Alonzo, but I can tell you things we discussed. He did say in coming here he was going to have a hard time deciding between retiring a Supersonic or a 76er. I told him he was of course invited to retire a 76ers and he may have the largest impact he's ever had on any team. Again, not to speak for Alonzo, but I think his problem with the Celtic organization is their pension for using people until they're not useful to their org anymore. I think a lot of time that franchise doesn't realize we're talking about dealing with people here and not "assets". A major reason Zo signed here was some of the work I have done in the past with Kevin Johnson in terms of keeping him a Laker later in his career and then brining him into the 76ers org as a front office member. Another reason he wanted to come here was the lack of Celtics Front office's ability to create a coherent HOF nomination. We all saw the Tim Hardaway fiasco and the way they dropped the ball on that nom. I can understand where Zo is coming from and I am more than honored that he wants me to fill out his HOF nomination.

Metcher Flackel: There are some rumors going around saying that the reason Inner GI was invited to the Owner's meeting this past Thursday at Fox and Hound was because your were hiring him on your staff as Associate head coach? Is that true?

I'm happy Alonzo took your money, can't wait until he brings back to Boston to make it rain.

Rumor has it you saw the writing on the wall with the Lakers that spelled out "Tracy McGrady" and you left the Pacific division. Does any ounce of this rumor hold weight?

The writing on the wall was: Some people need Ops to win it all some don't. The all count the same.

I doubt he will make it rain. The women in Boston are horrible.

I assure you that Marion is not as OP as others might lead you to believe.
