2006 Nets Press Day

Welcome to the Garden State for this years press day. First we would like to congratulate the Kings for a fantastic title run last season. That is the gold for this team and we feel that we are closer than we have been in quite a while. Earlier this off season we traded away Andrew Bynum, Morris Peterson and this years pick, Tyrus Thomas for Pau Gasol. We hope that Gasol and Chris Kaman will do some big things this season. We also brought in Glenn Robinson for his veteran leadership and to be our 6th man. After a resurgence last season, we have the hope that Vince Carter will continue to show he has some miles left. Add in a more confident and focused Jameer Nelson, we feel we are ready to do some damage in the Atlantic this season. We will take it 1 sim at a time and we look forward to a wild season ahead.

With that being said, we open the floor for questions.

Can this team compete with the likes of the Bucks and Celtics in the east?

Those are two of the elite in the East, we hope that when the season ends we can answer yes to that question.

Thanks for the short press conference - I hate reading. As a token of my appreciation, I brought you a pizza to feed your players - it's definitely not poisoned.

Anyway - you had a 1-5 preseason. Will that affect how you approach the regular season?

We don't work by the hour here in the Garden State. It hasn't affected up because the dc used isn't what we are planning to do. It has given us some ideas though.

You traded away some younger assets for the ability to make an impact immediately. How long of a window do you think you have to make a championship run with the team you have?

Who do you envision at your starting SF? Long-time Net Gerald Wallace, or new free agent toy Glenn Robinson?

Nick Melon; The Advocate: With your acquisition of Pau Gasol to team with Kaman, will you now be conductoring the "it's a small, small, world" ride outside of the venue for every home game?

We plan on starting Gerald Wallace at the sf position but having Glenn play big minutes off the bench.

No that's not the plan even though we do have a surprise for the home opener.

Metcher Flackel: What are your expectations from Nelson now that he will be your full time PG? He looks to be a up and coming star PG in the this league.

It is our hope that he plays like he's trained and that's hard and fast

Have Kaman and Pau become good friends... on account of their likeness...? And by likeness, I mean big 7'0" men who can play the center position.

Yes they have and you should know because it isn't secret how much you like big men.

You've quietly built up one of the best rosters in the East. How excited do you feel about this team?

Who's the go-to guy on this squad?

It was quiet until you started running your mouth. Well we are fortunate enough to have a few players that can carry the weight any given night.
