WHERE AND HOW TO SUBMIT BIDS:

Bids should be submitted to The Negotiator via Private Message (click here to send a Private Message to The Negotiator). This Private message should have the subject "TEAM NAME- RFA Bids 2005" (substitute your team's name for the words "TEAM NAME" in quotes). Place all of your RFA bids in a single message, with one entry per line, formatted as follows:

Player Name; Initial Year's Salary; Yearly Raise Percentage; Total Number of Years; (if desired: Team Option/Player Option)

For example, the Hawks' RFA Private Message should have the subject:
"Hawks - RFA Bids 2005"
and might have the following as the body:
Eric Montross; $10,069,134; 12.5%; 5
Khalid Reeves; $7,632,314; 10.0%; 4
Brooks Thompson; $3,000,000; 3.5%; 2; Team Option
RFA List:

The following players may be bid on during Restricted Free Agency ("incumbent" team follows player name, players are listed in order in which they were drafted in 2001):

Pau Gasol, Grizzlies
Gilbert Arenas, Nuggets
Zach Randolph, Hornets
Tony Parker, Pistons
Richard Jefferson, Hornets
Tyson Chandler, Kings
Jason Richardson, Timberwolves
Troy Murphy, Wizards
Joe Johnson, Timberwolves
Gerald Wallace, Nets
Shane Battier, Hornets
Chris Anderson, Warriors
Vladimir Radmanovic, Wizards
Earl Watson, Timberwolves
Mike James, Suns
Bobby Simmons, Grizzlies
Steven Hunter, Celtics
Jason Collins, Pistons
Loren Woods, Magic
Eddie Griffin, Bucks

Remember that Restricted Free Agents may not be traded for a full season (i.e., until after 2006 RFA) except for within the limits of a "Sign and Trade" between the "winning" and "incumbent" team (see the RFA Rules explanation).

RULES ON LEGAL BIDS:

Each team may submit up to ten (10) RFA bids. Bids in excess of ten will be ignored.

TEAMS WITH AN OUTSTANDING LUXURY TAX BILL MAY ONLY MAKE VETERAN MINIMUM OFFERS TO RESTRICTED FREE AGENTS

Teams bidding on players that ended last season on their roster (i.e., "incumbent" teams) may offer:
  • A starting salary of up to the current maximum for a player with 4 years of service ($13,149,653) regardless of cap situation.
  • Yearly raises of 0% to 12.5%, in increments of 0.5% (i.e., 0%, 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5% etc.)
  • Contract lengths of anywhere from 2 to 5 years. ONE YEAR OFFERS ARE NOT PERMITTED DURING RFA.
  • 5 year contracts may only be a "supermax" (first-year salary of $13,149,653 with 12.5% raises). Contracts of 2 to 4 years may be for any starting amount and any raise amount (e.g., 4 years starting at $8 million with 11% raises)
  • If desired, may designate the final year of the deal as "team option" or "player option" (if neither is selected, the default is "guaranteed")
Teams bidding on players that did NOT end last season on their roster may offer:
  • A starting salary up to the current maximum for a player with 4 years of service ($13,149,653) OR the amount of salary cap space they have available, whichever is LESS (teams that must offer less may be found at the end of this post).
  • Yearly raises of 0% to 10.0% in increments of 0.5% (i.e., 0%, 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5% etc.)
  • Contract lengths of anywhere from 2 to 4 years. ONE YEAR OFFERS ARE NOT PERMITTED DURING RFA.
  • If desired, may designate the final year of the deal as "team option" or "player option" (if neither is selected, the default is "guaranteed")
Use the "Contract Helper" portion of the PBSL Trade Checker tool - link here - to figure out what those raises make the contract look like in dollar amounts and what this will do to your cap in the future if you need to.

TEAMS WHOSE MAXIMUM OFFER TO EXTERNAL RFAs IS LIMITED BY CAP SPACE ADJUSTED FOR RFA SALARY HOLDS:
TEAMMAX EXTERNAL OFFER
Celtics$11,532,405
Bulls$11,256,487
Supersonics$10,445,202
Mavericks$8,916,602

Pistons$6,308,727
Nets$5,216,339
76ers$4,049,861
Grizzlies$2,748,031
Suns-$2,181,093; may not offer to external RFAs
Wizards-$2,824,782; may not offer to external RFAs
Bucks-$3,009,008; may not offer to external RFAs
Trailblazers-$3,144,596; may not offer to external RFAs
Magic-$5,012,237; may not offer to external RFAs
Nuggets-$11,640,953; may not offer to external RFAs
Kings-$13,607,051; may not offer to external RFAs
Rockets-$18,419,865; may not offer to external RFAs
Timberwolves-$24,146,385; may not offer to external RFAs
(All teams not on the above list may offer initial year salaries up to $13,149,653 to external RFAs)

Note the above includes your cap figure as of the index following 2nd round picks (i.e., with 2nd-round draft pick salaries included as part of your cap); if you are planning on cutting your 2nd round pick(s), you must do the math to figure out how much cap space this will make available for RFA.

In the interest of fairness, I ask that you look again at my cap number. I should have over 30M in holds, so I should not be able to send bids to external RFAs. If my math is wrong and I do have that space, that's obviously great. But I don't want to take advantage of the system.

You are correct - somehow one of the cells on my spreadsheet got deleted. OP should be fixed in a minute or two.

Please do not forget the 5th year can only be given on a Supermax deal. Any salary LESS THAN SUPERMAX can only offer 4 years. (You can, however, offer the 12.5% increase on any size contract)
