Roster Limits during Trades

Here is what it says in the guide.... Regular Season: Games now count and rosters must be set. Teams can carry up to 15 players with a max of 13 active players on the roster.

It also states 20 max in other parts of the yearly cycle.

Now, I'm not sure what "carry" means, but I think that means on your roster. I don't think method of acquisition matters.

I do not see this as silence, however.

Let's move this matter to the suggestion box? Wig dropped Voskuhl so I believe the matter is put to bed for this trade, no?

Moved the relevant posts to suggestions. We can pick up the discussion here.

Let's start at bottom: The guide seems to intend a 20 player limit on the roster starting after the finals then a 15 player limit entering camp through the finals.

Does anyone feel, think, assert otherwise about the current state of affairs?

If not, then I'm not sure a trade (or any move) putting a team over that limit (so update the index at any moment) is conforms to the rules.

I remember always hearing the phrase (irl) 'and team x will need to drop a player by tonight's game in a corresponding roster move'. I'd think as long as a team was back down to 15 before either:
1. Playing a game -or-
2. Making another trade

Acquiring a player to go over the limit and then immediately dropping them doesn't seem like a big deal, IMHO. But I'm good either way. In any event, the rulebook probably needs to be clarified.

If you mean in the NBA, the discussion is sometimes blurry, but trades are atomic transactions (just the trade), and a team's roster can only exceed 15 players in very extraordinary circumstances (see Pelicans this past week+) or in certain parts of the offseason.

They mean what Wig did... The drop happens before the add.

Not sure if it's relevant, but that's the NBA CBA rule.

Yeah, real NBA CBA requires you drop a player if your roster is 15 and you are trading 1 player for 2. We've always followed that rule, but didn't have it written down. It's written down now (and honestly, makes sense to have it in place to begin with).
