Driver's Seat

Have you driven the Ferrari though?

I mean, the standard for greatness that has been set will never be outdone.
The run of dominance by an iconic brand remains worthy of awe and wonder.

You know it's one thing to pull up at a light and rev the engine on your classic Chevy, or to accelerate your little Tesla and imagine you're in a rocket, but the Ferrari is the rocket!
It's the machine that embodies speed, power, and handling like no other.
And only one person can drive it at a time.

I picked up Magic mid season and immediately moved my rebuild forward in a major way.
I was 12 and 32, and projected to be on my way to the 2nd worst record in the league.
I sent out 3 of my rotation players, including 2 starters who were the foundation of my rebuild along with 2 picks.

Kenny Smith
Detlef Schrempf
John Paxson
88 Bullets 1st (#9)
90 Bucks 1st

Doug had the nerve and audacity to ask what I was doing.
Only getting a pretty good deal on the greatest player this league has ever seen.

Magic carried some decent bench players on 2 way contracts and some old heads to 20 and 18 on the back end of the season, on his way to yet another MVP and 1st Team All NPBSL.
He finished 3rd in scoring, 2nd in field goal percentage, and just over 1 rebound shy of averaging a triple double.

Yeah, We All Know - He different

I'm HAPPY to have him in my garage for now.
I know this free agency is Deep
I can sign a couple of co-stars and make a run for the playoffs...
but what could he do for you?

You know I love the thrill of the auction blocks, so I been imagining what might work as far as moving him.
About half the league don't have a package I would even consider, and another hand full wouldn't likely be open to moving the pieces it would take to get him.
We all saw that Doug passed on Doc, Chuck, and Hornacek when LTS came knocking, and I immediately commented that he was right to pass, but what if LTS only asked for 2 of the 3?
What if he asked for 1 of the 3 with some other assets?
How formidable would that team become?
What about the Nets, who are loaded with deep talent, but haven't found a way to mesh?
Would they be unstoppable with 4 purple potential players, including Magic?
What if he went to the Blazers, or the Jazz, or even the Spurs??
How many ships would MJ and Magic run off before the league could recover?
I don't know.
What if the Bulls or Sonics were interested in shifting into the driver's seat and building around THE MVP?
They have enough resources to move the needle.

I'm just going to point to Doug's trade for Alton Lister this season.
Without that trade, he is nowhere near the title contender he is now.
And it was no secret that Lister was on the block from the moment I traded for him.
Anyone in the league could have had him for a decent package.
By looking at the move as a luxury and not a neccesity, the teams who held an advantage, allowed him to manuever passed them.
So, if you're a team that can afford to trade for the best player in the league, are you going to wait for another team to outbid you, and run off a few championships that should be yours?
Will that run coincide with the primes of your best players and turn you into a perennial runner up?
Man, I sure hope not.

It would be a little presumptuous for me to post a trade block that listed him because he has a player option, but best believe that is he opts out he'll be signing a super max in UFA.
I'm going to point out that the draft offers some great trade flexibility that will likely be necessary for the kind of blockbuster I have in mind.
As long as he doesn't opt out, I'd like to move in that period.
I honestly am likely to keep The GOAT if he doesn't move before UFA.
So don't check out and come back when it's too late.
Like when all the comments hit the discord asking if Magic got traded again.
You're all on notice.
Negotiations will remain open through the playoffs.
After that, nothing will be guaranteed, and he could go as soon as he opts in.
Let's hope he heads your way.

Don't think it's good to be prancing around without security.
Check In!!

This is not actually a media article; it is a Trade Block article.

Can team centric articles still count as media points? I mean this was kinda a trade block post at some points but it was more commentary on his wheelin' and dealin' and what went into the Magic trade. I was surprised to see this was a 0pt'er

Me Too
It centers around Magic, but it also gives commentary on the dynamics and implications of making or missing on a deal, as well as listing the teams I thought had viable options to pull the trigger.
