The CHAMPS Are HERE! Bucks Presser 84-85

Greetings, everyone! It's always a good day to bask in the glory of past championships, especially when that championship came only a few months ago! However, the time is here to look forward, not backwards. The Milwaukee Bucks have, since the inception of this league, contended for titles. We may not have made it to the Finals every season, but we were in the damn thing every season. 3rd times the charm for Finals appearances, this one we cashed in... not looking to repeat past mistakes. And we are now looking to continue this run of league dominance as we embark on this 1984-85 season.

Before moving on to the new additions, I think we need to acknowledge those who contributed to our success last season who are no longer with us.

*wheels out a projector to show a film reel of Alton Lister blocking shots, Phil Ford dropping dimes & Michael Cooper picking pockets*

We will miss the contributions that both Alton, Phil & Michael brought to this team, and we wish them the best of luck on the Kansas City Wanna-Be Bucks.

But here we are with our off-season. We lost 3 day 1 starters. However, this team is build to withstand that kind of hemorrhage. In parting with Alton & Phil, we brought in some elite guard play in the form of rookie Alvin Robertson, a big man with a very unique skill set ahead of his time in Sam Perkins, and a couple of veterans to help fill out the depth of the roster in Vinnie Johnson & Andrew Toney. In house, we have some young players who are itching to make a mark and prove their worth. Sleepy Floyd has answered the call every time he's been given the opportunity, as has Lewis Lloyd. Jeff Malone continues to develop offensively and could become a real force for us off the bench. Rodney McCray continues to develop his versatility as a forward.

While we did lose some elite defensive players, we have some talent that can slide in and fill the void created in their absenses quite well. Only time will tell, but people may be writing off this squad right now... but don't be too hasty. The Bucks are here to stay.

Chet Youbetcha, Dimmadome News: where do you rank Ralph Sampson in the hierarchy of bigs? Did he deserve the MVP last season? Was he snubbed of an all league position?

Yes, but only because Ralph Sampson is a has-been n00b who played on a team with a buncha dogsh!t for teammates... In fact, the fact he only scored 29ppg last season is a travesty. He should've been scoring 50ppg on putbacks alone with the amount of bricks his teammates were slinging. And also because the Spurs have every elite player in the league on their team and none will average what McHale is about to average.

Ralph isn't even the best big on his team, much less the league, much much less deserving of MVP. End of story.

Steve Duin, the Oregonian...

Any hard feelings towards Kansas City for poaching your players? More importantly, have people been on the horn trying to pry McHale away from you? Have you received an offer comparable to those publicly mentioned for Robert Parish?

What do you say to most of the league who always add an ASTERISK when they talk about your Championship?

Coach, folks out here at the corner bar are still celebratin’ the title, but they’re also askin’... how do you keep a hungry edge after you’ve had the feast? You think this new group’s got the same fire in the belly as last year’s crew?

The KC Kucks tryna be us, I get it. Imitation is the best form of flattery.

As for McHale, jokingly we've gotten offers but not all of them have been realistic ones. We aren't looking to shop him right now, but maybe next season.

Yeah, we had some adjustments that our preseason DC didn't account for. What showed on the court in preseason wasn't even the gameplan/lineup we'd use. So, we are excited to see how this first sim plays out. Expecting the worst, hoping for the best!

I think it's good to give the young ones a taste of success. They know what it feels like to win, now they have the burden of chasing that success and living up to the opportunity presented to them. How do they respond if they stumble? We are excited for this somewhat new chapter to see what the future holds for our young core.

What are you going to do to secure a PF and Center in a league without very many good ones? Are you looking at Perish or someone to add to your young core?
