Let's talk about the man, the myth, the moustache, Jim Spanarkel.

Jim was called out by the Cat for having a hilarious name even before the creation draft and came into the first Blazers' preseason camp looking to make a name for himself. Mostly these antics involved throwing himself recklessly around the court in the limited minutes he got off the bench. After Wig did a surprise concuss-and-trade of James Donaldson, Spanarkel kept his head on a swivel off the court - unfortunately, he got taken out by a hard screen that broke his arm and left him sideline for half of the inaugural season. Rumors in the locker room swirled about who was going to be next to be traded after Donaldson got shipped out, but Spanarkel wound up making invaluable contributions during the Blazers' 1980 playoff run after Bernard King got injured by making sure the Gatorade cups were always full along the sideline. Spanarkel has definitely been a locker room leader and a trendsetter; only baby-faced rookie Lester Conner and Mark Olberding aren't rocking 'staches this season. Even the hairless cat has tried growing his 'stache out to no avail. Spanarkel was quietly re-signed in the offseason, a sign his facial hair grooming techniques are valued in Portland.

Earl Cureton is a gym rat.
This guy loves the weight room.
He's unassuming and well mannered, but he will push you around between the lines.
He's one of those, show you better than I could tell you guys.
He knows his role on this roster, and just keep climbing.
He's the perfect measuring stick for consummate professionals.
From his attitude, to his work ethic, to his diet, everything about this kid screams winner!
Couldn't be more proud to see him in a Bullets jersey.

"Fast" Eddie L. Johnson does too much, in all areas of his life, and doesn't do enough of what anyone likes him doing. When the clock is running out and you want him to take a shot, he dribbles under the basket back out the perimeter for a low-percentage fadeaway. You ask him to buy the groceries for the week and he forgets the toilet paper. In the locker room hes showered and dressed before the rest of the team dries the sweat off their head. He's got something to say to everyone about what they did right and wrong in the game while they're winding down, and ain't nobody tryin to hear it!
There were rumors of Fast Eddie acting like Fast Flashin' Eddie but they were unconfirmed. Confirmed, however, were many shocked faces as he ran down the street wearing a trench coat.
Fast Eddie will do most of what you need him to do, but the rest leaves you scratching your head. Why, Eddie? Why? You could've just...done less!!

Danny Ainge is exactly the type of player every team should want. He keeps getting better each and every day and he never complains. We had him as a starter this season but decided to make a change and have him come off the bench and he welcomed the opportunity to learn from the older guys with open arms. He's a great shooter and defenseman but we need to see his inside game improve before we can let him get more starts in the future. He knows his potential and so do we and we're going to do everything we can to make sure we don't have to rush him into the spotlight again. Next time he becomes a starter, he will be ready to join the elites of the league. Even after being benched, he still shows up early for each practice and stays late. We see him being a big part of this team's future success and he's more than willing to wait his turn.

Easy choice to talk about Darrell "Griff" Griffith. He is now the only starter to be with this team since the creation draft. He is a young quiet leader, leads by example, leads with consistency. It was easier for him when Dr. J was still in NY, he could let him be the big voice, but he shows up everyday before anyone else and does his job. He came out in the '81 offseason and brought his game to a different level. It really was impressive to watch. He comes out on the court and never gets too high or too low, makes everyone around him better, and lets you know without saying a word what you can expect from him.
After he gives you 40 minutes and solid stat sheet he comes into the locker room shakes everyones hand and is the first one out the door. He doesn't like the media, the partying after a win, he doesnt even really care to get too close to you. He is there to do a job and go home so he can do it again the next day. Mature beyond his years.

Alton "Big Dick" Lister.
The name says it all... he's an absolute DICK on the court. He bullies players around. If he's clogging the paint, no one else is penetrating. You think that layup is an easy one? NOPE, swatted. Trying to draw a foul? NAHHHHHH, good luck running through this ROCK HARD man when his feet are set. There's also rumor that he like's to walk around the locker room naked to let everyone else know who's the real boss. Recently, sports apparel companies have begun research on the fashion sense of longer basketball shorts, and many attribute this to Alton's endowment.
