1982 Milwaukee Bucks Pre-Season Presser

GM Quailmen walks into a dimly lit room full of local and national press representatives. He approaches the podium, adjusts his tie, and clears his throat. Without speaking, he looks behind him at the ceiling where a spot light was wheeled in and directed. A banner unrolls to reveal...

We've engaged in some conversations that have tempted us to stray, but nothing exactly strong enough has come through that makes us waver from staying on course... but who knows. Until then, we will dominate the East this season.
GM Quailmen: *looks back at the crowd* Good day, fellow Milwaukeeans. As I said before, the plan was to hang a banner. CHampionship or bust. Unfortunately, we busted in the Finals at the hands of Alex English & David Roundtabletree or whatever his name is. His name doesn't matter; he was a Detroit Pistons plant sent to ruin our day. Congrats to the Nuggets and their Championship. But in the end, I want to hold myself and the team accountable. So we hang this banner as a reminder of what happens with failure and the standard we as an organization hold ourselves to.

GM Quailmen: When you look at your roster sheet, you will not see many names you recognize. Maybe Bill Robizine & Glen Gondrezick. But other than that, the entire roster has been turned over to send a message. We will build this organization in the way we find most successful. We are thankful to Robert Parish, Bill Laimbeer, Walter Davis, & Ray Williams and wish them well in their future endeavors. But we decided to full lean into a build in which we are not necessarily shackled by the confines of a creation draft or limited free agent/trading pool.

GM Quailmen: So I present to you the new look Milwaukee Bucks... Guard Phil Ford, Guard Johnny Davis, Guard Sleepy Floyd, Guard Lewis Lloyd, Forward Eddie Johnson, Guard/Forward Terry Tyler, and Center and reigning DPOY Alton Lister. This line-up is not a permanent fixture. Things will be tweaked. Things will be changed. We are a work in progress and acknowledge that expectation-wise. From here, we look to the future and are excited for the things to come.

Steve Duin, Portland Trailblazers beat writer for the Oregonian...

How soon do you think Eric "Sleepy" Floyd can reach his potential? He seems to have loads of it but is very raw. Is there anything you plan to do to accelerate that process?

Louis Lattimer, Landcastle Letters: With the trade of Louis Orr, are you worried there may be some sort of Samson effect on your team and its performance this season?

An acceleration is definitely possible. But we could envision him playing the shooting guard spot or super sub off the bench in the meantime while his passing develops. His athleticism and scoring ability coming into the league cannot be understated

Orr was a great teammate, an unsung hero of the Buck bench brigade, and someone we valued enough to enroll in our advanced player development program last off-season. We love him! But in the end, we re-signed him with the idea of turning him into another asset... even if that asset is only 1 measly point.

GWR: If you don't value your fellow GMs enough to ask them real questions in their pressers, instead relying on inside jokes, do you expect them to give you the same courtesy?

Excuse me, sir. Which questions are you referring to? Our media staff ask some hard hitting questions!

Couldn’t wait for this one. Thanks for the time. Before my question, our GM over in NY wanted me to tell you, “Please stop calling. Buck is gone. Please don’t send anymore edible arrangements. I hate pineapple and I’m not giving your pick back. This is getting out of hand, my assistant won’t stop crying. Please.”

He was also yelling about the Parrish trade and I was trying to get it all but then he threw something so I left.

Anyway, you really threw around a lot of money this year. Really backing up the truck to player’s houses. Are you at all worried that you might hinder your flexibility this year if needed?

Any response to the big boss back in NY?

Not really too worried about the flexibility for the future. We have teams interested in what we have to offer already! So if we want to blow things up or shift things around, we always find a way. Flexibility is something that can come with a little stretching and yoga!

As for the big boss in NY, well. After the initial emotions settled down, we here in Milwaukee have no bad blood. And only wish them the best in the 1983-84 season.
