Today is a day where we are signaling a new future. We know the Celtics fans have a certain standard and expectation of our players and our front office. We strive on the pride that our fans have for this organization as they wear their Cheeks jerseys everywhere they go in Boston and on the cape. We appreciate everything you do to support us and we are sorry for what is going to happen.

We are going to not be great this year. Flat out. No way to sugar coat that. We knew that we were going to be bad after we sent King out the door. But this is part of the “plan”. It was our plan since the inception. We were going to be good for two years than reset for the future with a war chest of points. While last season did not go quite to the plan, as we were in autopilot for most of the season, the team still did admirable with Cheeks and King playing well. We didn’t make the playoffs, but we had three guys make the all star game and so we did some things right. I won’t go into the season too much, as I honestly couldn’t tell you a lot of what happened.

Going into the offseason we really wanted to start looking towards the offseason. We thought King was in a good position to get us a decent return. He didn’t get what we initially thought. We finally were able to find a suitor in the Mavs, where we then were able to flip that pick into another pick that turned into Eaton and LaSalle. I’m pretty happy at that return as I think those two could be a very good combo upfront. Eaton as a DPOY Center and LaSalle as an outstanding compliment. We were also looking to move Cheeks, but will probably only do it for one asset right now and that GM knows we will keep talking

A byproduct of being inactive last season caused us to also mismanage a few things moving forward. We were also going to move Cheeks earlier, but then realized a few problems after TC:
1. We don’t have our own pick.
2. Our team was probably not as suited to be an ok team as we thought.
These are problems we will live with as it really doesn’t derail our ultimate plan as of now, but it doesn’t taste good. Anyways, we do like the trio of Eaton, LaSalle, and Levingston. Those guys are a pretty good set of guys to go with Cheeks right now.

That being said, we are open to buying talent. We have points to spend on someone that can come in and be a starter this season so that we can try to get some more points moving forward (and not be complete ass).

With that, please go ahead and ask away.

How fast do you think you will get back to prominence in a seemingly weaker Eastern Conference?

Idk, maybe twenty wins. It will have to be a wait and see how the seasons goes. I’d love to buy some talent off teams that start to sell off as the season goes on to improve my roster.

My timeline is hopefully in three seasons. Where Eaton, LaSalle are more developed and Cheeks is still balling. Either that, or I’ve made moves that promote a winning team at that point.

Steve Duin, Blazers beatwriter for the Oregonian...

Some have accused you of trying to corner the market on young, defensive-minded Centers. How soon until Alton Lister is wearing Celtics green? And whom do you expect to actually shoot the ball on this squad - whom will Cheeks be passing to?

We did have our eyes on lister before he was moved in the offseason, so who knows. Maybe down the line when he is green/green and not as expensive?

Regarding shooting the ball, we expect the Cheeks-Winters combo to stay a solid one. We also see a world where Cheeks does some cheeky things and passes the ball to himself.

Will you at point try and get your pick back or will you make a move to make sure your pick isn't lotto?

I’ll take either. I’d like to get my pick back, but that’s not totally my decision. If I can’t get the pick back, I guess I’ll have to try to be better this season.

Eaton is intriguing as a player. He can be a top defensive player as a rookie. Is it possible for Eaton to win ROY averaging just over 10 points? Is there any end of the year defensive accomplishments that you have as a goal for Eaton?

I really like Eaton, so much so that his age (the reason for his slide I think) did not bother me. Idk if he will get ROY, but I could see him fighting for DPOY this year and for several years. The accomplishments will fall down to how he is game planned by whoever is running the team.
