S71 Town Hall #6: Look Back

Looking at how your season has gone and how you project it to go, are there any moves that you made to this point that you'd like a re-do on? Also, are there any moves you didn't make that you wish you would have? How do you think these alternate timelines would've worked out?
Rules: 1 point if you give thoughtful answers, which I will award after the timer ends for responses. The timer ends for responses at the moment the corresponding week's Sim is run.
Note: Use approximately 5 sentences as your bare minimum for 1 point. If you write 3 long, complex sentences, you'll still get a point. If you write 5 3 word sentences, you will not get a point. Don't @ me.
Due: Sim 6 deadline.

Looking at this season compared to how I was expected it to go is just hilarious to me given the luck I have. The injuries have truly ravaged my team and have destroyed any hope for this year. A move I would probably re-do is trading for Cottrill. I would go back and draft one of the PGs I was considering given they would have been more than a one year albatross, sitting on the bench all season. As far as moves I wish I made earlier, other then missing out on the Cottrill move that was voided because of his injury that would have netted me a PG. I regret not pushing harder to get my pick back before now. I finally got a response on PM to my question, but I should have pulled a Doug in the offseason and just blow up the GM until the conceded.

I'm happy where I'm at this season; Other than giving up on the trading market. I would love to move some more pieces around but everyone just wants one of my purples when I ask to make a trade. It gets old. I got blues and greens on the team, come get one of them (Hell I'll even get a little older if their a better win now player.) Trying to put together a win now team while Doug is in the middle of his 4 peat kinda sucks; but I've been out of the tax long enough. Let's get this thing done! Plus their a 5% chance someone in Alpha picks him off before the finals. Come on Alpha don't give up, take down Doug so Omega has a chance.

I should be happier with my team but the truth is, I'm not satisfied just yet. While I'm still on pace to far exceed my best season so far, I still see the many flaws in my team. I tried going for offense and rebounds and didn't focus much on PRD and PSD. Looking back, I wish I would have been even more aggressive in FA to get better defenders. I had a lot of cap space and still didn't do much with it. I'm hoping I can learn more about FA going into next season to try and get players I want. Hopefully with a better season, players will want to come to my team. I'm happy with the trade for Kofi Blaq as well as trading away Cottrill (sorry Charlie) to get another 1st round pick and another young talent to build with this already young team. Maybe I'll decide to get a bit more aggressive come the trade deadline. I'm open to all opportunities to improve my team.

I wish I found a little bit better depth in my backcourt to complement Kamari Brown. I really liked Jaden Akins last season but I have not found the best way yet to incorporate him off the bench this season so his play has suffered. Allie Quigley also got misplaced into PG out of necessity and her game has regressed understandably as well which is unfortunate. I will be looking for ways to fix my lineup at the trade deadline so I am still hopeful we can figure out a better path forward but right now those are my only regrets. If anyone is shopping backcourt pieces, you will see a message from me soon.

Haha well the timing of when this post was posted and how I was feeling are very coincidental. I feel like I let the league down. My suns had the best and only chance of dethroning the pistons. We are the only team that has beaten them. I had no path to paying off my 121 point tax bill. Instead of purposely going into the tax, I sold off. A lot of teams are upset at me for selling so soon. It wasn't because the pistons were dominate. It was solely to get under the cap. I wasn't afraid of the challenge then, and I'm not afraid now. Unlike the pistons, I couldn't live with myself going into tax jail purposely. Feels unethical and slimy. So for everyone who felt like I was fighting for them, I'm sorry y'all. I feel like I let you all down.

I'm happy with all the moves I made. I didn't expect to be able to completely flip my entire team for a rebuild. It would've been nice to get a guaranteed heavier hitter for Mac instead of 4 smaller pieces, but there weren't many buyers this season so I think I got the best return that I could when I needed to flip. Nobody's made me an offer that I regret not taking. I've made some offers that it's been hard to get responses on, and I don't want to hound GMs about it, but it'd be good to get something done to get better or worse than 7th place. At this point, I think worse is the only way to go, so if you're still mulling over an offer I made you to buy win now pieces, I probably don't want it anymore.

I am happy with every single move I've made. I actually almost made more to secure MORE long-term contracts to keep this party going. But now that the Suns decided to punt under the guise of financial responsibility, I decided to pause on making a couple other moves. But who knows, people keep shit talking and maybe I'll use the remaining points to secure some longer term talent and lock up the league for sure for a few more seasons. But yeah, loving life and enjoying this 1-loss season right now! Fun ride!

I've said before the Heat trade was a strategic mistake because the Gilmore contract is an eyesore, so I'll reiterate that again here for this Town Hall. Assuming that contract right now just does not make any sense for a team that is trying to surround its Big 3 with maximum talent so I need to find ways to get value out of that contract moving forward. I do not want to sound like a grump though because I enjoy a challenge so it will be fun to shop that contract around for a better piece this offseason. I think right now I just need to find ways to get better. I've taken a backseat for a while now and seeing more teams get interested in the league again helps spark those competitive juices again because they need to see how good the Grizzlies can be when I'm firing from all cylinders. I'm looking forward to showing them this old dog has a few tricks left.

Totally satisfied with everything ive done up to this point. I think the dominance of Detroit has hampered the spirits of the other contenders but all it takes is an injury or a crazy early round upset to make me feel like we have a chance. If you wouldve told me we would have a 16-1 home record by this point id happily take that
The only change id make is not re-signing Eddie Cruce because McDonald has surpassed him but thats just a marginal move and not worthy of any actual regret

There were a few moves I would have like to have made, but none really panned out. I had a decent target on a non-contending team, but they wanted points and picks, which I have, but my picks don't carry much value. Plus, to match salary, I would have to send out some talent that could almost neutralize the come up.
I had a possible deal with a contending-gone-team-non, but the salary matching made an already tenuous tax situation much worse, especially for a season where I am already pretty good.
Lastly, I wanted Bryon Nelson. Wizards 6th man. I think this guy has gone very overlooked / highly underrated by most other teams throughout his career, but he slaps. I think he could have pushed my team into the stratosphere with his two-way play. Alas, the Wiz are the 2nd best team in PBSL and have no reason to lose a player like Nelson who's playing so well.
Instead, I've sat on my thumb, and it has been the best possible move for me, given the circumstances. Sometimes, you just gotta hold tight.

I'm excited to make a run at the finals, but I probably could have been more patient.
I know I don't have great PG play and I could have waited until I had that position secured before pushing in, but I saw the Kuminga and Wemby pick-up being worth the extra investment.
Of course that also had to do with Gilmore shitting the bed in training camp, but that eventually turns into me sending Blaze and Plowden for Newland, which is generous but not unheard of.
It's likely that if GIlmore would have panned out, I would still be on pace for a longer build.
But we'll see if I can sneak a title run in on the heels of the Detroit dominance.
I think I'm positioned as well as anyone else for that.
I wish some of the guys that are doing horrible, who have amazing talent in one position would fold and give me a real chance to. I made some VERY good offers for two guards in particular, but I understand.
In one case I imagine it being hard to trade away one of the best players in the league, and in the other, well, I guess I'm not his brother, so - no dice.

On one hand, I'd say that I could've held steady in the off-season instead of trading for players who didn't really gel and lead to early winnings. However, if I wouldn't have made any moves I'd probably be even less interested in things as a whole than I currently am. At least right now, I'm interested in watching how McClung continues to play and Blaze's continued scoring barrages (on top of Kinsella and TJD's normal progression). Or if I can re-trade anyone else. Thats always at least slightly amusing. I really didn't have any moves that I didn't pull the trigger on that I wish I'd go back and do again. At least not that I can remember at this current time. Though I did kind of feel bad once Gilmore tanked to green potential after dealing him away, but that's obviously not something you can really predict or plan for.

My season is actually going not as well as expected, but I guess that is my own fault. I'm trying to tank but I am still starting 2 good blue players, so I'm not getting as many losses as I could get. I did go 1-6 in the recent sim though so that is pretty fun.
I also have the Pelicans first rounder and they are choosing this season to try and make a run for the playoffs so I don't appreciate that so much. Still got a long season to go so hopefully he misses out.

I only really made one move but maybe I should have took the Newland for 10 points. Those 10 points would have got me out of the tax hole I am in. Man I am really second guessing it. Maybe I should not be allowed to trade players without paying off my tax. It is affecting my decision making when it comes to trading players. Oh well. I guess I'll have to just deal with it.
