Say what you will about how angry you are about this trade and how it isn't trade of the year... and the more people complain about this being unfair or whatever further proves my point, but the fact you are so angry means it is trade of the year...

We all know the trade of the year. And it's not the one that got folks angry #basic.
It's the one that benefited 4 teams equally. 1 player dump that returned k-100 even more later.
2 rebuilds, and 1 that helped a new owner get rid of a 31 year old that no one else would trade for.
And 1 team looking to go all in.

4 teams!
2 purple potentials!

I mean that's the definition of trade of the year. Give the people what they want!

Appreciate the talks as always X. I know we had have several talks one way or the other on this deal and glad to finally make something work for both parties.
I think this deal cemented the Wizards at the top of the standings. No one had much of a shot at beating the Pistons' record, but Xist and the Wiz made it competitive. At 18-6, the Wiz acquired Gates, a ratio of 3 wins for every loss. With Gates, the Wiz went 47-11 to finish the season. I'll take that win differential all day, especially for the cost.

Now, unfortunately for AB, Gates never really worked out in Boston. It was a big swing, one he had to take, but he chose the right time to exit the Gates game. In return AB got a young blue pot, a possibly good pick (you never know, but Xist's Wiz might be ready to reset in 2062), a desirable center in his prime that he can flip next season for more assets, and some cherry points on top.

Look, I think there were several great trades this season, but I'm not sure any of them - no matter how creative - were as mutually beneficial as this one.

The trade was a win-win for both teams. The Suns upgraded their Center with an All-League talent for just 7 points. Wemby provided a real spark to their lineup and was the catalyst for their resurgence in the 2nd half of the season. The Grizzlies got $39M in extra space that generated more points, an extra season of Jonathan Kuminga, and precious points for their training plan. Good trades benefit both teams and their goals. This trade is a prime example.
