S70 Town Hall #12: "Nah, I'm too tired to be clever."

There's a lot of tight playoff seeding races going on right now.

So, tell us what you think the official playoff seedings will end up being when the dust clears after Friday's sim and fill in a couple sentences explaining why.

Rules: 1 point if you give thoughtful answers which I will award after the timer ends for responses. The timer ends for responses at the moment the corresponding week's Sim is run.

Note: Use approximately 5 sentences as your bare minimum for 1 point. If you write 3 long, complex sentences, you'll still get a point. If you write 5 3 word sentences, you will not get a point. Don't @ me.

Due: Sim 12 deadline.

Alpha:

(1) Pistons

(2) Wizards
(7) Magic

(3) Suns
(6) Rockets

(4) Pacers
(5) Lakers

Notes: I think the Suns will extend their lead for the 3rd seed by the end because they're just a more talented roster than the Pacers. I'm taking me to overcome 78's Rockets just to pretend to be confident. I think we end neck and neck, maybe even the exact record, and I have no idea what the tiebreakers might be.

Most interesting series: Lakers/Pacers. For me, obviously. I'm currently 3-1 vs the Pacers going into another H2H in sim 12, 2 of those wins being in Indy. So, upset alert?

Most interesting player matchup: Maxwell Lewis vs. Sion James. The young star vs the league's best player. Not sure if the gameplans or DCs would line them up across from each other, but it'd be fun.

Omega:

(1) Bulls

(2) Nuggets
(7) Kings

(3) Spurs
(6) Raptors

(4) Warriors
(5) Cavs

Notes: The Bulls have 3 tough games to close (Pistons, 2x Wizards) but the Spurs play 5 playoff teams in the final sim, 4 of which are on the road. Nuggets and Warriors play H2H in Sim 12, which could pull them even, but the Warriors also get to play the Spurs while the Nuggets get all easy games after their H2H.

Most interesting series: Spurs vs. Raptors. While the Raps haven't taken off this season like I thought they would, there's a lot of talent there that could make things interesting against a PeeWee-less Spurs.

Most interesting player match-up: Not direct matchup, but two 2-headed monsters battling for supremacy. Bricker/Stewart vs. Isaac/Vassell. A lot of explosiveness between the four and I think it'd be a hell of a series too.

These races are juicy af!

I think representing the alpha division will be.

(1 Pistons - bye)

4 Pacers vs 5 Rockets
2 Wizards vs 7 Magic
3 Suns vs 6 Lakers

The wizards have the 2 locked up, and the pistons have had the 1 locked up since training camp. That brings me to the other two races. The race for the 3/4 seed, and the race for the 5/6 seed. I predict my suns will hang on for the 3 as my schedule is lighter than the pacers. Pacers have 7 games, 5 of which are on the road. They're also dealing with the loss of Gary Rockwell who was brought in to sure up the PG role while also giving them some aggressive play. Meanwhile the suns have 3&3 but only the rockets are a threat. The other teams are some of the worst in the league. Rockets will hang on at 5. Both Lakers and rockets have a home heavy schedule to end the season but the Lakers have the tougher schedule.

Omega Time, what what, Omega Time.

.......I have no idea lol. First I'll chat about what's going on, which is pure chaos. The Bulls have the hardest finish in the league probably with the pistons and wizards twice....until you look at the spurs and see that they also have a hard schedule. 4 of 6 on the road. 5 of 6 are against playoff teams. The other options to win the conference are the nuggets or warriors who both have 2 more losses than bulls/spurs. Warriors nuggets do have a game against each other that's going to decide the division most likely. Out of those 4, I think the nuggets have the easiest schedule, but all 4 have a tough schedule overall. This prediction is basically a complete crapshoot guess based on home court I guess?

(1 Bulls - bye) I think they can get 1 of 3 against pistons wiz, they play 2 of the 3 at home where they're tied for best in the league.

4 Warriors vs 5 Cavs
2 Nuggets vs 7 Kings
3 Spurs vs 6 Raptors

Basically I think these races are staying put. As tight as they are, home court is going to help the people in the lead, stay in the lead... I'm a betting man, and I wouldn't bet on a single one of these brackets ha. Should be fun though

ALPHA

1. Pistons
2. Wizards
3. Suns
4. Pacers
5. Lakers
6. Rockets
7. Magic

I'm keeping the seedings almost as they are now. The best the Wizards can do is tie the Pistons, and the Pistons hold the tiebreaker, so there's no reason for either team to go full-bore unless they want to injure their starters. The Suns and Pacers can't catch the Wizards, and nobody can catch them, but they'll want to play for that 3rd seed to avoid the Pistons in the second round. I think the Suns have it. They're schedule is pretty light and they have the stronger deeper team, so the Pacers shouldn't be able to leap them.

The one leapfrog I do see is the Lakers over the Rockets. They're a game apart, too, but I think the Lakers are facing more teams they should be able to beat.

OMEGA

1. Bulls
2. Warriors
3. Nuggets
4. Spurs
5. Cavaliers
6. Raptors
7. Kings

I didn't want to put myself 1st, and I don't think I'll get 1st, but when I looked at everyone's schedules, I think the top 4 teams will all be within a game of each other. So I just went with the tiebreakers between divisions...and even between division leaders and the 3 and 4 teams. It's really a coinflip here. A lot of the top 4 teams are playing teams in Alpha that may or may not rest players, so a lot of it comes down to that.

5-7 I think are locked. For any movement there, one team would have to have a perfect sim and another team would have to have a real stinker.

Alpha
1. Pistons
2. Wizards
3. Suns
4. Pacers
5. Rockets
6. Lakers
7. Magic

I could see the Rockets taking down the Pacers but other than that I don’t see any upsets in the first round.

The Suns vs the Lakers in the first round should be fun, but the Suns have been on a heater since getting Wemby and I think them and the Wizards can challenge the Pistons. I want to bet on the Wizards or Suns to take down the Pistons.

Omega

1.Nuggets
2.Bulls
3.Warriors
4.Spurs
5.Cavaliers
6.Raptors
7.Kings

The Nuggets have the easiest schedule left out of the 4 teams looking for the top spot. The Warriors have a similar schedule but with less current wins.

I was trying to take down the kings for the 7th spot, but instead I went on an 8 game losing streak. This was the streakest season I have ever had: 7 win streak followed by and 8 game losing streak with almost no changes to the line up or strategy.

Alpha
1. Pistons
2. Wizards
3. Suns
4. Pacers
5. Lakers
6. Rockets
7. Magic

The Pacers losing Gary Rockwell is a tough blow so I see the Lakers pulling off the "upset" there. The rest of the matchups look like chalk so nothing too exciting there.

Omega
1. Bulls
2. Nuggets
3. Spurs
4. Warriors
5. Cavaliers
6. Raptors
7. Kings

This race is a lot more interesting. I see the Bulls finishing strong with 5 home games to go. I think the Nuggets claim the other division title in a nail-biter over the Warriors. As far as playoff matchups go, I think this one is ripe for an upset. The Raptors are starting to get their guys back and will be a dangerous 6th seed and I think even though they got swept by the Spurs, all of the games were tight and three of them were before the Pee Wee trade. The best matchup of Round 1 will be Warriors/Cavs and I think it has the potential to go all the way to Game 7. I think greeple's playoff experience will be invaluable here so they survive and advance. Just want to also give a shoutout to Sacramento for coming out of nowhere to go on an absolute heater after the All-Star break to wrap up the 7th seed. I cannot wait to see SuperDog's playoff depth charts submitted sometime during next season's TC.

Alpha:

2. Wizards
3. Pacers
4. Suns
5. Lakers
6. Rockets
7. Magic

Lakers most notably may jump the Rockets this last sim. Lakers are 7-3 in their last ten and are more active in day to day sim life then the Rockets. I also think the Pacers are going to jump the Suns. The Pacers play majority of their games away, but most of the teams they will play this sim are winnable.

Omega:
1. Nuggets
2. Bulls
3. Warriors
4. Spurs
5. Raptors
6. Cavs
7. Kings

I have a feeling the Nuggets are going to show up this sim and get the one seed. I know Kofi Blaq is hurt, but the Bulls have too many players that play the same role on their team to be the one seed I think. I also just hope I can jump the Cavs for the better seeding. Fingers crossed.

Alpha

1. Pistons
2. Wizards
3. Suns
4. Pacers
5. Lakers
6. Rockets
7. Magic

The Alpha division is pretty much set. Not a lot of room for movement/surprises. Maybe the Rockets hold on to the 5 seed but Lakers having a recent surge while the Rockets continue to be inconsistent just leads me to believe the Lakers make the jump in this last sim. And the only real surprise move would be if the Trailblazers happen to win out while the Magic lose out. I don't really see either of those happening though.

Omega

1. Nuggets
2. Bulls
3. Warriors
4. Spurs
5. Cavaliers
6. Raptors
7. Kings

This conference is much more interesting. While the playoff teams are set, there is still so much room for change between the 1-4 seed and the 4-7 seeds. I see the Spurs making the biggest drop because of their schedule. All but one game is against a playoff team and only one of those playoff teams do they get to play at home, that's gonna be a tough stretch right before playoffs. Bulls get 4/6 games at home and they've only lost once at home so they have a good chance to hold the 1 seed. Nuggets could lock up the 2 seed, and very well get the 1 seed since all but one of their remaining games are against bottom tier teams (wolves, heat, blazers, pelicans). All they need is for the Bulls to slip up just a little bit and they will get the bye.

Pistons

Rd.1
Wizards-Magic
Wizards win this pretty easily. No offense to the Magic but Wizards are just a tier above.

Suns-Lakers
I just think it would be funny to see the Lakers edge this out with their size down low.

Pacers-Rockets
Rockets will pull it out with the best player in the game probably. Gary Rockwell being out doesn’t help too.

Rd.2
Pistons-Lakers
Pistons win in four

Wizards-Rockets
Wizards in four

Conf. Finals
Pistons -Wizards
Wizards I think put up a good fight. I even think Doug will have an injury by this point??? If so, Frye it Wizards in seven.

Omega
Rd.1
Bulls

Nuggets-Kings
Nuggets in four

Spurs-Raptors
Raptors edge out this one in six due to lack of activity by Carlos.

Warriors-Cavs
Warriors in four.

Rd. 2
Bulls-Raptors
Bulls got the better group and have the edge in experience. Bulls in six.

Nuggets-Warriors
A very interesting matchup at this point. With Kofi back I’ll pick the Nuggets to edge it out in six or seven.

Conf. Finals
Bulls-Nuggets
Bulls take out a Nuggets team that is a strong competitor. I think it’s actually close and can go either way much like the Alpha conference finals. Bulls in six.

Finals: Bulls-Wizards
Give me X. This may be a situation where I’m just liking the team irrationally, but damnit I feel like the combo of Gates and Hub is just that good. Wizards in seven.

Omega conference is way more interesting that the Alpha. I like the nuggets beating out the field and securing the 1 seed, have a tough game against the Warriors Away, but if i can win that one I will secure up the 2 seed at least, and would just need the Bulls to lose a few, which they play the Pisstons, and then the Wizards twice. so could easily drop 3 games.
Warriors also have a couple tough games agasint Nuggets/Spurs/Kings, so just need them to drop 1/2 of those and I'm looking good.

Its been a fun race that's for sure and I'm excited to see how we all end up.

Alpha Conference
1. Pistons
2. Wizards
3. Suns
4. Pacers
5. Lakers
6. Rockets
7. Magic

Higher seeds will all win Round 1 for this conference, but then after is where it gets fun. Specifically Wizards-Suns. Wizards have been incredibly good this season, but Suns made a lot of moves over the course of the year to completely revamp the team. The prize for winning that series, probably a matchup with the pistons. But both teams have beaten the Pistons in-season.. so anything is possible!

Omega
1. Bulls
2. Nuggets
3. Spurs
4. Warriors
5. Cavaliers
6. Raptors
7. Kings

The top 4 seeds are insanely close. But I think the Bulls and Nuggets pull out on top of their respective divisions based off the upcoming schedules. Nuggets-Warriors race is interesting considering they play each other in this last sim. In the first round tho, all the top seeds advance again, then Round 2 becomes the blood bath wear the Spurs and Warriors get their revenge for not winning the division and ascend to the Conf Finals

4. Pacers
5. Lakers
6. Rockets
7. Magic

No major changes. Pistons and Wizards are the top teams in the conference. I was rooting for the Pacers, however losing Gary Rockwell is bad luck. I think the Pacers will not survive the 1st round. Teams 5-7 are no match for Pistons and Wizards. I think the Pistons will be on the Alpha Conference Champions.

Omega
1. Bulls
2. Nuggets
3. Spurs
4. Warriors
5. Cavaliers
6. Raptors
7. Kings

The Omega Conference is much better. Better players and more competitive. This race is going to the wire. Bulls will finish first. Kings will exit quickly. Unfortunately, Raptors will not make it deep in the playoffs. The Cavs will face the Bulls for the Omega Conference championship and eventually lose in Game 7. I think the Bulls will represent Omega for the finals.
