#SLOE: People's Basketball Sim League

Hey everybody! The Warriors are back! I mean, we don’t have a PG, or like, wins, but soon, we will. I promise!

Cold hard facts: Nicky Clax and Breanna Stewart are continuing to evolve into a stellar front court. We’re going to run with them to start the season and see how it goes. Breanna was a scoring machine when she hit the floor last season, so we’ll see if she can keep it up this season.

Our biggest move this offseason was retaining all our RFAs: JR Smith Jr. (a name I love typing), Hershal Gilmore (could be a PG, probably, right?!), and Kevin Fryeing Cross. What’s that? Star player without a single A potential? Not anymore. Mr. Cross got a wild hair up his ass this TC and decided, you know what, I’m a GREAT 3 point shooter now…potentially.

We always wondered what hole Mr. Cross would fill on our roster. He wasn’t great at anything exactly, but he could do just about everything above average thanks to absurd athleticism. Now I think we now his place as one of the most physically dominant SFs in the league. My guy has a lot of room to grow still, and I think he just became a name the PBSL GMs will fear.

Look, we’re a pretty incomplete squad, but we’re building up to be quite the contender. We have a PG problem, but perhaps we can steer Gilmore that way as time goes on. And let’s not forget about Ms. A’ja Wilson who has got nothing but time to develop. Her first pro training summer was ass, but next summer, you betcha she’ll figure out how dominant she can be.

So yeah, perhaps another part time season ahead. Anyone not mentioned here is on the block, btw, and possibly some that were mentioned, for the right price…

Random Reporter: The Warriors have seen a lot of young talent get shuffled around over the past few season, including a few that some would consider building blocks for a rebuild. If you had to commit to a core right now, who would that core be?

You made an interesting decision during RFA to match Hershal Gilmore's near-max offer despite only having seen him in limited action during his rookie deal. What did you like most about his potential ceiling to bring him back?

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: With so many young players on the roster that could be a part of the future, but the cost of extra insurance, training, and a prioritization of spending points over saving, what are the signals you look for to know when it's time to switch on and be a winning team?

Nick Melon; Orlando Sentinel: You’ve been pretty focused on shipping out guys you don’t see that’s a future piece of your core while holding onto Claxton & Stewart as your front court pieces. Any concern of the kind of deals they’ll both potentially receive in the following offseason in terms of building out the rest of your team long term?

Now into the basketball question, do you anticipate being patient and building into a contender with this group.. Or would you swap some of them for ready now talent on your quest to return to championship row.

Jesus what does a guy have to do to get called on first around here?

Anyway, How do you foresee A'ja Wilson meshing with this team? Being the #1 overall pick is always a great feeling but it typically comes at the cost of being on a lower tier team. Do you think A'ja will stay for the entire rebuild or do you foresee a departure in the future?

Will this be a redshirt season for A'ja Wilson or will you give him some playing time to get his feet wet a little?

I'm pretty committed to Nick Claxton, Breanna Stewart, Kevin Cross, JR Smith Jr. and Hershal Gilmore. I'm not married to any of these players but it's the group that's pairing the best with the highest potential thus far.

I think the other contracts that we had in RFA were manageable, and we see a lot of value in Gilmore's two-way play, size, and athleticism. We might train him up to be a PG if we have enough points.

Right now, while I'm under the tax, I'm playing it be ear and seeing what opportunities arise. We are playing a dangerous financial game with next year's RFA's needing to get paid, but for now we're in full spend mode.

We have lots of players with desirable traits, though. If we need to move one or two to cut costs or consolidate talent, that's exactly what we'll look to do.

Yes, we may have an insurmountable financial problem on our hands come next year. I'm not looking forward to it.

I would definitely consider swapping pieces if the opportunity presented itself, but while we are under the tax we're just seeing what these players can do. It's fun watching them develop. I want to bake them all a nice pie.

A successful season would be Kevin Cross making the all-star team. We have so many players still developing that we don't have many expectations of winning, but we do think that some players like Breanna or JR Smith Jr. could have breakout seasons.

Thanks for asking about A'ja. We love having her in Golden State, but she is still a pretty raw talent with a lot of room to grow. We will carefully watch her development come next season and make some tough decisions on who must stay and who must go. If we had endless amounts of cash and points, everyone we have now, almost, would stay. I think we have a championship caliber team 3-5 seasons too soon.
