Mavs Presser - Still got a lot of work to do

Well we finally made the playoffs and almost made it out of round 1. The fans are back in the seats and the excitement is growing in Dallas. We’ve been working toward this upcoming year for a while.

The upside of the team is the talent level. We have accumulated more than a few of the best players in the league. (for at least a few years). Dominatrix, Scoot and Parker are leading the way. Reese is the 6th man. Kaminga is a value contract that does not necessarily need to be moved. Poole lead the league in assists last year and only took a minor hit in TC. I’m really looking for a cheaper option for Poole (So that I can put more money into the center position). But finding a PG that is passing at 88, defense is 73 and quickness is 90 is easier said than done. (Anyone got a player that is compatible but on a cheaper salary?)

We missed on UFA 1 bids (what’s new). (This year we weren’t going to rely on picking up any decent talent during UFA 1, so it didn’t really matter.) UFA 2 improved our bench. With the addition of Reese coming up from the G league, and a strong Training Camp we are looking to be better than last year. But there is still a lot of work to be done during the season.

We have a few problems to address during the season; starting at the center position.

We desperately focused on picking up bench players that can block and defend the paint. While we were fairly successful at finding bench players to fill that role, a really good starting center is going to eat us alive.

We are deep in the tax and we are going for it.

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: I may have missed this last year, but what was the reason for redshirting Angel Reese when she was ready to play, but not Caitlin Clark when she wasn't, and looking back on it, do you see any new advantages or disadvantages both to last year's team and long term results of this build that come from this decision?

I meant to red shirt Caitlin Clark as well, but I cut to many players and I had to list her as my 8th active player. Than the computer put her in the game automatically. This all happened after sim 8 so she red shirted almost the whole year...
I have theory I want to test but I won't know the result for 7 more seasons... but I'm pretty sure I'm right.

My main problem is all the money I have wrapped up in Poole but since I didn't have a point guard and I don't really have a prospective replacement for a long term point guard, Poole is doing the job. (My plan a while back was to move up in the draft to try and grab Jordan Hawkins to have a future PG, but instead I ended up with Clark.)

The past 2 seasons you've put a lot of stock in the value that Candice Parker brings to the team ("leading the way" as you wrote here). For people who may not agree that she's a missing link, how would you describe her impact to change their minds?

She is 6'6 can defend well. She is super athletic 83 jump and 75 quickness. Her OEFF was 116 and her DEFF was 108. I put point into her passing so she should be improved there. She is a little slower at developing than I had wanted, I'd hoped she would be blue current this season. She'll prove them wrong, but may next season. Worse case scenario she is a shut down defender this season.

God Shammgod, Net News: If you aren't a serious threat at the trade deadline, will you think about easing your tax situation?

I don't normally take question for college newspapers, but since we've been scooting you for years and plan on drafting you next time we get a top 5 pick, we'll answer -

If Caitlin Clark and Lester Quinones and Jordan Poole are still on the team at the trade deadline we have failed and we will cut all the vet mins.

But that's not going to happen. Someone is going to want to get a rebuild started and send a seasoned PG who's better than Poole.

Chet Youbetcha, Dimmadome News: You just traded two first round picks for a player that it seems you may be eager to move based on the reply above. What is the thought process behind that?

I’m trying to bring two max contract.

The league (really Greeple)expect me to be good so they devalue my picks. Also I’ve noticed most GM would rather trade for a known than roll the dice on draft picks.

A season preview from our new overlord Black Superman showed your Mavs heading to the conference finals. You said you're going all in this season. How far do you expect to go?

Oh I'm all in. I'm going for a title, I might even lose Scoot and Kaminga because I can't pay my taxes at the end of the season, but we'll see.

Last season you led the division almost wire-to-wire but collapsed in the homestretch against Sacramento. What lessons, if any, have you learned from that experience?
