Rules: 1 point if you give
thoughtful answers which I will award after the timer ends for responses. The timer ends for responses at the moment the corresponding week's Sim is run.
Note: Use approximately 5 sentences as your bare minimum for 1 point. If you write 3 long, complex sentences, you'll still get a point. If you write 5 3 word sentences, you will not get a point. Don't @ me.
Due: Sim 8 deadline.
You need to beat the Lakers OR the Rockets. The rest of the league's GMs are RoboGM1-23 and are dumb af. Who are you trading for (legally) and why?
Check trade legality here http://pbsl.ijbl.net/check.htm
...and don't violate the rules by checking here viewtopic.php?f=24&t=32

Tough question. First off, I don't have a prayer of beating the Lakers OR the Rockets, but I would immediately look to the next best teams for help. So, for starters, I need some scoring, and size is good too:
Warriors send
Harold Schiff
Cavs send
Jonathan Isaac
Remaining cap space: $14,206,229
Boom. I have some scoring help. C?lestin is kind of a bum for a PG but he has enough PAS to get that big guy the ball. I'll probably skip the PG spot for now.
I don't have a ton of contract left that I want to move, because I'm building for the future. For now, I can send out these 5 guys without a (future) problem:
Owen Blakeslee
Ritchie Lynch
Guy Moseley
Chris Adamson
Jeffrey Krause
I COULD send out some more guys, I guess, because we can unload full ass clown cars under current trading rules, but this is all i can check easily in the trade checker: 5 guys.
(damn that just made me want a big ass burger)
Coupled with my cap space, that means I can take back a contract for up to $66,933,922. In today's PBSL, I really gotta hunt for talent at that price, and I'm not gonna look too far for my 1 town hall point.
Well what do you know. Funkhouser is still on his rookie deal.
Warriors send
Jeffrey Krause
Ritchie Lynch
C?lestin Decottignies
Bobcats send
Dennis Funkhouser
I actually shed a bit of salary here so my new cap space total is $15,350,066. And now no longer need C?lestin, so now I still have 3 guys I could move for one more add:
Owen Blakeslee
Guy Moseley
Chris Adamson
I have up to $53,343,254 to play with now. Hmm.
Warriors send:
Owen Blakeslee
Guy Moseley
Chris Adamson
Cooper Flagg
Mavericks send:
Jonathan Kuminga
Dominitrix Johnson
Look, the deal is legal, okay? Granted, all the other teams would have to cut people, but who cares. Those GMs are dumb, they'll cut whomever I say so we can get the deal done. Now my starting five looks like:
Jonathan Kuminga
Jonathan Isaac (Jonathan front court, nice)
Dominitrix Johnson
Kevin Cross (? I guess?)
Dennis Funkhouser
And... yeah. that's a fun starting 5, isn't it? I'm still not sure it's a winner against the rockets OR lakers, but it's all possible, theoretically, and...
this took longer than I expected. It was really fun. I hope others try, but I expect maybe gman and mamba do town halls this sim and no. one. else.
Prove me wrong.

Desert here from the Cayman Islands…
This is an easy one for me. I'm going to rip the best player off of the team I have to beat. Give me Johnny Davis in exchange for Chris bow and Angelo Romero.
Suns send: Angelo Romero and Chris bow
Dumb Lakers send: Johnny Davis
But why stop there? Then I'm trading
Suns send Diallo, Andy Elliot, and Perez for….
Lakers send Thomas Walker.
Give myself the hyper offensive PG to pair with Finch. Another big man and Maxwell Lewis. Instantly makes me better than the Lakers but still not sure I beat the rockets. But I have a chance. Suns signing off from Grand Cayman.

I'm trading a 2nd rounder for the Warriors 1st rounder. Does this help me beat the Rockets and Lakers? No. But McClung coming back will help, and I already have him, so all I need is time. Why take the Warriors first? For starters, for asking a question like this. I don't feel right about trading with RoboGMs as commissioner, so I would never approach the stewards...even if I had a good deal for them...which I might have had for Wemby. Getting a high pick for almost free has no cap implications for me, and it sets me up next year for a quick refresh. This is year 2 of the tax for me, and I feel good about my team 1-7 especially since there's only one ball, so the three alphas approach doesn't always pan out. Next season, I'm probably trying to move Remy in the offseason for a rebuild package, so having a high draft pick plus whatever return I'd get from that would allow me to duck out of the tax and work to come back strong the season after with a retooled team around McClung. The Warriors would have to cash in all their assets to try to make their pick bad, but I don't think Ebbe Clauer and Ned Lomax are gonna do the trick. The pick will still be an asset for me, and I already have limited time to reinsert McClung back in my lineup now that Ingram gives me another three point shooting maestro to make the team more multidimensional and allow me to set 3pt Usage to something higher than 2 or 3. Plus, my team's chemistry is so finicky that any big name coming in a trade could really blow the AVG rating I have worked so hard to build up to smithereens.

I'm not trading for anyone. I already beat the Rockets once and lost once. Both of those were close games. We've only played the Lakers once this season and that game was also a close loss. I'm not really sweating making a trade and shaking up the 3rd best record in the league, just to theoretically add a better player. Who am I? What have I become? Every single other GM in the league has made a trade lately except me. That said, if i had to do something, I'd follow Josh's thought process and try to add a future asset as I'm skirting the tax this season again and will need cheaper salaries over the next few years (and young bodies) to reset around.

Well, since I just did the thought process for it lets go into the trade I just made. Griner's injury proved to me that I did not have enough offensive power at my disposal. Because the defense became reasonable once I got my game plan in order. So I needed to find a way to improve the offense, however I did not have the capital to make a swing for a max contract player. I was going to look at someone like Delmar on the blazers, but he fell into that too much money bucket. So then I pivoted to Ebbe. The thought here is that he is today a better player than Benefield, who was my best trade capital. His defense is an added bonus as well that I will be happy to have on the perimeter. Hopefully it all works out and I didn't sell my 1 for a non playoff pick. Also my best bet at competing against these teams is by keeping Gates and DJ. They are both on Player options so I need to win this year, which I have been doing at only an ok clip so far. Ebbe will hopefully get me over the hump with Griner coming back as well.
This deal may hurt my long term team outlook, but I think that Ebbe, if I bring him back will pair nicely with Lew on the timeline scale and hopefully keep me a contended.

Unfortunately, C Chief K is on the decline. He gets in foul trouble and he's slow. I'm looking for big man that is fast and can score points. I would trade with the Pistons for PF Lauri Markkanen, in exchange for C Chief K and C Jeffrey Caballero. I want to have the fastest C and PF in the entire league. I start Markkanen as my Center, next to PF Jonathan Isaac. Markkanen QKN is 80 and Isaac QKN is 70. When you have the two fast C + PF in the same team, I don't see the Rockets or the Lakers catching up. The Cavs are only 1 player away from having the best record in the league. I think Markkanen is the player I need for a ring.

I'd trade Dirks for Isaac to upgrade my frontcourt with the best scorer in the league. I'd trade Evan Barber and Geronimo Rubio De La Rosa (say that 3 times fast) for Dennis Funkhouser to get the most affordable, yet elite PG in the game. I would trade Woodrow Lucky and Logan Gilley for Charles Jarrett to add another capable wing player. I'd need to keep Gradey Dick and Kamari Brown because they are RFAs so they cannot be traded yet but they would still be in the starting lineup. My team would be pretty athletic so I think I can keep up the pace against both teams and hopefully get lucky enough to pull off the upset.

If I want to beat the Lakers it's simple. I'll deal Safi, Davis, Hub to the lowest bidder and anti-thrive.
If I want to make the strongest team possible?
I'd make 3 moves:
Vet min salary for Bryon Nelson
Ron Harper Jr for Jose Alvarado
Paolo Banchero for Kel'el Ware
Nelson could be a super sub at a wing spot and PF to give punch to the 2nd unit. Alvarado would slide JD to the SG spot and give an elite distributor and defender to the lineup, putting an elite roster in the best possible positions. Banchero is a favorite of mine, but his playoff injuries are well documented so he goes out for one of the best Centers in the game to give me the best front court in the league.
