Celtics S 68 Pre Season Presser

Is this the year?

Is this when all of it finally comes together for Antonio Gates??

Am I an idiot for trading for a purple player that was more raw than Quail's mum???

Anyways, here are my ramblings for this year. In regards to last year, I both regret it and got very fortunate at the same time. I took a shot at going all in and traded for Ron Harper Jr. That did not work out, and it was painfully obvious from sim 1. So, I pivoted. I went to the Hawks, who I feel would benefit with a wing and sent Zuber (who I am really high on) and Ron Harper out for DJ. The attempt from my end was to yet again stay under the tax cap, while also trying to build a team around Gates. I have done a good job of building a core around Gates, but Gates just refuses to become the guy. He reminds me of NBA Anthony Davis.

So anyways, we then move on to the offseason. I had a deal going even before the season ended to get Akins for my 7th pick. Then something happened. I got the third pick. So I could have gone one of two routes:
  • Firmly go into tax and hope Akins is the answer with his huuuuge pay due (just like I did with harper last season)
Or do I hope a player that fits my needs falls to three?
Well... I bet on my pick and not going to tax hell within a year by not making the playoffs with an Akins build.

I am happy with my choice because I think Lew falling to me was magical. I think he was the best offensive talent in the draft by a landslide and could easily become the best player in this draft class. He will be a guy that will be a great offensive talent for a really long time, that hopefully starts playing well as soon as this year.

That leads me to UFA, where betting on my team failed me, in complete opposites of UFA. I threw my MLE at every wing, hoping I would get a guy like Ayo ( LOL NEVER WITH THAT CONTRACT HE WAS OFFERED. GOOD FOR HIM! EVEN BETTER FOR THE PELS TO LEARN CAP MGMGT.) or Charles Jarret. I got the guy that no matter how many times I ran TC he went green Karlo Pearson. Again, we must always learn how to pivot. I will go a few sims to see how he does but I think both he and Blair need to go to get me under the tax. Oh well, I am here for an enjoyable time, to include figuring out these teams. hahaha (silently cries in the corner)

With that being said, I do hope the team plays this year and I see some positive signs in pre season from the likes of AG and DJ, but I just don't think it is there time yet, and that is ok. So with that, any questions?

Justin Bieber, Teremana.com: There's no question Antonio Gates is a great player. But, let's face it, the Celtics play in a tough division with elite players. It's very understandable he just can't compete with studs like Jonathan Isaac. You won 2 games during preseason. How many wins do you expect to win this season.

A lot of your team has been built via trade. What trade do you think has been your best? And what trade do you regret?

I am really hoping for playoffs, and I think as of now we can fight for that. However, if I decide to tank, well then we will be pick #9 or so probably.

I regret the Supreme Cook trade because I think he would have been a great compliment to AG, he is still raw but had a great TC.

The trade I think was my best was trading away RHJ, because it allowed me a pathway to Lew Alcindor who may be my next core player.

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: Is there any timeline that Antonio Gates and Lew Alcindor work on as coexisting on a competing team? If so, when is that and what does it look like?

What are the chances Gates will be moved this year?

The ideal world, this year they played together. However that would require a perfect TC from Alcindor and then me pumping points into his currents. Which I suns think I’m going to have enough of.

I think they actually compliment each other well, Alcindor allows gates to play PF and can also be that #1 scoring threat. While Gates defense allows Lew to skip to his best beat.

Probably low. I don’t see much of a world where I don’t move him. The only fear is he turns down his option, which isn’t that scary ATM.

Skeeter Valentine, Junior Writer, Bluffington Post, Sim Sports Division:

It's no secret that you played a pivotal role in the hiring of the Nuggets new GM, Jedihero. Having only won once yourself after a long tenure, how would you feel if he came in the league and won? With a team like his, they are clear favorites this year.

As I have previously done, I would again , kindly, direct him to Dr. K's GM page

Sorry, I know I'm just a Junior Writer, but I don't believe you correctly answered the question.

You make it sound like only one answer is the right answer here. Last I checked this was my presser. You can see yourself out of this webpage sir.

Xist fleshed out an actual answer compared to what my elevator pitch answer is:
xist2inspire wrote:I think back to when Dr. K first came in and was handed a championship-level team, won a title year 1...and then kind of went off and did his own thing. He got zero value from anyone on that title team, and it really felt like he was rushing to put the type of team he wanted together rather than finding a way to take what he was given and eventually turn it into something he wanted, without getting ripped off or squandering what he was given. Truthfully, that championship team was a bit of a Cinderella story, if he really wanted to make his mark quickly, he could've sold high right off the bat and have come out much better.

Nowhere in this incoherent rambling do I see an answer to my writers question. I will accept the blurb from X, but I strongly advise you show respect for my employees in the future.

Trent Crimm, The Independent

It seems you have been very outspoken about your disappointment in Antonio Gates, do you foresee this becoming an issue within the locker room and organization or do you believe that you two can make this work and build towards being a contender?

Also, it seems very unprofessional, and dare I say dishonorable, to attack another GM, much less a brand new one, in your presser. I know I wouldn't want to start the season with that bad juju

I don't think it will carry too far because we did have a good TC. Where I feel like I have displayed my displeasure prior to this presser. However, my team has equally been in the dumps the past few years so... AG IS OUTSTANDING!
