Spurs Presser - Season #67

Welcome to the Spurs preseason presser. As always we thank you for joining us.

We as a organization feel like last season was a successful season. We are looking to build on it and hopefully reach our goal. I know the fans wanted to win it all last season but that Rockets team was gritty and took away the chance for our team to get to the finals vs a great Lakers team. I think losing to the champs motivated guys this offseason to get even better. These guys know what they need to do and it showed during TC. They came into the facility ready to get to work, challenging each other so they can be the version of themselves. Jose is still feeling some type of way after how he played game 7 of the semis. He felt like he let the team down with his play and it has been weighing on him all offseason. These guys want what the Rockets currently have...a ring. I sometimes have to remind them to not to put too much pressure on themselves. They have to take things one possession at a time and that it won't come easy. There will be a ton of challenges. I know the fans are excited about this upcoming season and expectations are high but at the end of the day the are just expectations. You can't win games because of what you look like on paper. Hopefully things workout for this version of Spurs this year.

I know I just rambled about nonsense but now I am opening up the floor for questions. As always I will try and answer to best of my ability.

Eazy P: Seems like no GM has any questions for us and we need to answer at least 1 to get points, I'll open the questions up to others....My favorite player and 1st member of 12 years a Spur has a question.

Josh Smith: Well since no one asked any questions and we have been sitting here for a whole sim, I'll ask. My question is for Jose. We know Sim 1 is always a fluke for the most part but your performance is really good so far. Would you say the motivating factor was Game 7 of last year's Semis?

Jose Alvarado: Yeah man I felt like I let my team down when it counted the most. I can't go 4-11 from the field and turn the ball over 7 times in a game that would have punch our ticket to the finals. I played 53 mins and should have done more. Credit to DeJuan Baker. He did a great job. It's been weighing on me all summer. I wanted to come out better than last season. My teammates supported and told me to keep my head up. That has been the motivating factor for me.

Spray Allen: My Question is for BI. BI after the 1st sim your stats seemed to be down a bit, could it be because you are playing out of your natural position cause of Eazy's history of cheese lineups?

Image

Brandon Ingram: It's all about winning games for this organization and the city of San Antonio. Wherever they put me I will play that position if we get wins. I feel we have some versatile players that can play multiple positions. Think about back when you were on Eazy's Spurs team back in the day and how he had Josh Smith all over the place playing the 1-5 positions. It eventually led to a ring. I am hoping it does the same this time around for us. So the cheesier the better if it gets me to my goal. I want all that cheese.

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: With Brandon Ingram, Gregory Kozak, Tony Newland, and Percy Miller all in contract years, what is the Spurs ethos both this season and for the next several seasons on how to balance so many quality players with championship potential with fiscal responsibility?

We are doing whatever it takes to keep every important player. We know that there will be poison pill RFA contracts coming our way. PeeWee will go to the Nets if we are too deep in the tax to retain him and/or get terrible lowball offers. May not get proper value cause of my team being in a tough spot.
