That was a hell of a job, Rockets, on winning the championship and GM of the Year! Congratulation!

Now, let's talk about the Dallas Mavericks.

The city is feeling good this year. The people of Dallas are finally feeling positive; there is no more talk of moving the team to Seattle. There is finally some anticipation around the start of the season. The pre-season games have sold out for the first time in over a decade. Hell, the people of Dallas keep buying me drinks whenever I am out, and the big man (Mark Cuban) keeps telling me he's so happy he didn't have to fire me.

The draft and free Agency went about as well as we could have wanted.

First, we made a big move by moving up in the draft, and Angel Reese who looks like the real deal. (Even if, on draft night, our scooting team was out interviewing washed-up old basketball players talking about how old-school basketball was so much more physical back in the day.)

We now have our core pieces in place: Angel Reese, Dominitrix Johnson, and Scoot Henderson. (They aren't going anywhere). Reese and Dominitrix are not quite ready to lead a championship team, but they are prepared to make the playoffs. Outside of the core, there are a lot of pieces that can be moved around.

Free Agency went well; we picked up Thomas Walker and Quincy Johnson.

Jonathan Kaminga is finally ready to ball. He has been a project for 5 years now, but he's finally ready to push around all other Power Forwards in the League (at least on the boards). He should be the literally biggest PF in the League. Scoot Henderson is the star of the team and should find himself back into a 25-point-per-game average. Quincy Johnson was the new addition to put a second scoring punch on the floor. Thomas Walker is an efficient center and just what we needed to pair with our scoring duo. Those four will be on the floor nearly the whole game, no matter what. But the last spot... :| it's a real problem.

The problem is we still need a true, legitimate point guard. So the fifth spot will either be one of the carousel of meh point guards (i.e., Joaquin McCabe, Kevin Peaslee, Maximino Morales, Jason Sylvester.) I'll probably go with Maximino Morales or Jason Sylvester; OR, we might play bully ball with a Scoot at the point, Quincy Johnson at shooting Guard, and 3- 7 footers: Joseph Morelock, Kaminga, Thomas Walker. Then, there is also the option of playing Quincy at Point.

The bottom line is that without a point guard; we still have a lot to figure out.

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: Preseason gave us a look at both Quincy Johnson at PG and significant minutes for Angel Reese. What stands out about each player's performance in preseason and how does that influence your strategy when planning for the start of the regular season?

I feel like we are better than the preseason games indicate. That being said, the preseason is making me question putting Quincy in the point guard spot.

Angel Reese was very likely to be red-shirted this year, which is still the plan.

One of the reasons you traded up and drafted Angel Reese was to bring win now talent onto the team. What's the thought process behind red-shirting Angel?

It doesn't seem like Quincy didn't perform poorly while at PG, though obviously still not his natural position (evidence by his turnovers). Still, 18-7-5 is nothing to sneeze at. Since you are still unhappy with the performance, what is it that you're looking for out of the PG position?

Why are you redshirting Dominitrix Johnson after he started last season?

He's just not ready to contribute to a playoff squad.

I wanted to see what Dominitrix had and wanted to see if he could win rookie of the year, but that was a mistake. So we are remedying it by sitting him this year. Maybe it a mistake and I might change my mind but for now no playing time.

I want an efficient point guard with strong defense, high Turnover to Assist Ratio, not really looking for points. But Quincy will get another shot at point before the season is over.

Angel Reese had a productive preseason, what are your plans for her this season?

If your team gets off to a good start. Would that increase the pressure of adding a point guard via trade? In a league lacking premier point guards. How do you expect to have one if you're not willing to trade any assets to match the incoming point guard?

The core talent of your rebuild is very solid, how do plan to add the pieces necessary to contend when the time comes?
And when is that time?
When does the window open for the Mavs?
And how long do you think it will stay open?

I think I can add talent mostly through free agency, and maybe if I move Quincy and Thomas for younger pieces. I also still have all my draft picks and than some to get players. Once I have a point guard, All I will need is cheap complementary player like Kaminga.

I'm hoping to break into the 6th or 7th seed this year, the 3rd or 4th next year and the number 1 spot the year after. Than hold it for a while, like the Bulls and the Lakers. I need points to make that longevity happen.
