Now that the trade deadline has passed, what was at least one trade that could/should have been made because it would have benefited both teams? What were the benefits for both teams?

First off, I want to say big ups to the Mavericks and Wizards for the last minute trade to get the Mavs under the apron and for the Wiz to use that cap space. On that note, I think that the Hawks and Warriors could've made a similar connect. At 21-35, it's tough to see the Hawks in the tax, and with the Warriors competing, they might be in the market to be re-upgrading Warley. Kalin Lucas or Ibrahim Diallo plus maybe some dead salary for Warley and points could be a solid move, and the Hawks could follow that up with some cuts to try to get under the apron. With Warley's contract expiring, the Hawks could've either tried to get him back on a smaller deal or just been happy with the tax situation.

I would've also liked to see the Lakers trade all their players to rebuilding teams for nothing to dissolve their dominance. Maybe next year.

Titan (as an intermediary for myself and cashcab (we're fambly, ok)) floated a Diallo / Warley deal, which I declined. I stand by that because trading a big for a big didn't make sense to me when I have a backlog of bigs, one of whom is playing SF. Plus, I would delve deeper into the tax - only my 2nd year in the tax, but still - and I do not believe my outcome would have changed dramatically. Let's say I make it to the finals and play the Lakers (barring injury). Diallo's 20'ish minutes of play are not going to change the series either direction, at least not much further than if I lean on Warley more heavily in that series or Gillam for their strengths off the bench. Diallo is strong in both areas but he is also a foul liability.

But, fair enough. Another criticism against my Warley move. I'll take it.

I did want to see Diallo moved, though, just not to the Bay. I wanted a Suns Luke Hancock for Diallo deal. Suns wanted Hancock to go for a win-now player, and I thought Diallo / Hancock was pretty even (if the salaries could be sorted out). Suns win now, Hawks win later. But again, the Hawks need a bit more activity on the trade market in general. Phil Smith and Kalin Lucas are very similar, and Hancock is not too dissimilar, but across all three the Hawks would definitely have ammo to plug some positional holes by moving one or two of them next season - after a recovery TC from Uncle Phil.

To be fair, if you kept Canfield, I'd still have pushed for Canfield for Diallo/Lucas.

I should have countered for Lucas. Dammit. Dammit all to hell. Oh well.

I wish I made a move because I tried a couple of lowball offers with Dallas and Charlotte to acquire TLW and Josiah Blair respectively but kudos to LazyTitan and Dr. K for not budging from their asking price and folding last minute at the deadline. Hopefully no hard feelings but I just thought nobody bothered to make a move on either of them so I shot my shot.

One trade I wish happened was between Portland and Toronto. Not sure if Mamba/RoboGM1 would have agreed but Toronto sends Honeycutt, Kamari Brown, and Troutman for Larry Williams. I think Penny has built a pretty strong defense but I do not think he has found the alpha player to replace Evan Mobley's offensive production in the two seasons since the trade. I think Larry Williams could have provided that spark. It would be an expensive offseason for Penny and the gang as Jordan Poole's deal is also expiring but for a team sorely lacking an offensive identity to leave a such a dynamo like Williams on the trade block I think is just not being aggressive enough as a new GM to explore your options.

I'm having trouble coming up with something completely serious to dive into right now for another team, so I'll just pop one in for my team. This was actually discussed, but I never was convinced it'd legitimately happen.

Harold Schiff for Evan Mobley (and parts)

In Doug's pain after the broken leg, he did broach the subject with me. Since I'm a sweetheart of a guy, I told him I'd rather he not make that kind of emotional trade to me and sit on it for a bit, then discuss if he's still feeling like it.

What would it do?

Well, for me, it'd add one of my favorite players. I'd lose Mobley's 90+ post defense, but gain Schiff's size, rebounding and shot-blocking. Something I was also very intrigued by was getting another big man who didn't feel the need to step out to the 3-point line, because Mobley shoots too many for a 31% shooter. Also, it'd give me a unique challenge, filling in for Schiff during injury and Mobley being traded. I think i was uniquely built to take on a broken leg due to having Walker. And I could try flipping Schiff in the off-season to a contender to boot.

For Doug, he'd be filling a great player into Schiff's spot, and a better one than he was likely to find anywhere else given that injury status. I'd also have sent 1-3 depth pieces to fill the roster better (some combo of Kispert, Bailey, Humbert, Hernandez were all brought up) and points.

Ultimately, Doug didn't want to send Schiff to my roster and be the guy who "guaranteed" a championship. Also, holding him was probably the right move for Doug anyways. Yes, the team will suffer these last few sims, but I'm guessing he doesn't drop out of the playoff race and will be a load for the playoffs. Then, if he does manage to lose a playoff spot, well, he has his pick. Then, he can choose to either try again next season or try flipping Schiff and Millsap in the off-season to fully re-build around Markkanen.

I'm not sure how to answer this question because it implies knowing 2 different teams needs. So I'll just say I think the Suns and blazers should have made a trade. Garland for AB. The suns needed a PG(they ultimately got one at the trade deadline) and the blazers could benefit from the extra fire power. Maybe the blazers could get away with Larry williams at the 1. Meanwhile the suns have a ton of offensive firepower that needed a bit of guidance going into the trade deadline. Garland would have elevated Mahmoud and Akins in the ways that AB is unable to.

My fake trade is Bucks/Blazers

No idea what trade offers the stewards have gotten for Blazers players but I cant imagine it would be too stiff to get a deal done
My offer would be Moody and 2 Bucks 1sts for Darius Garland

Portland fully bottoms out with moving a soon to be 30 yr old Garland and can begin rebuilding their roster immediately and Bucks grab one of the best PG's in the league for 2 picks that arent going to be that valuable

I'm absolute sure I should not be giving advice to the best GM in the game, our current commissioner and the clear front runner to winning a championship this year.

But here's my argument:

The upside for the Lakers: Thomas Walker isn't helping that much this season, and he is slightly overpaid for this season's contributions. The Lakers would add Schiff, last year's MVP and to 5 in the league. If they are worried at all about getting the title this year, this trade would have locked it down.

The downside for the Lakers: They lose their future big man.

The upside for the Pistons: Get a big to build around in the future.
The Pistons should move Schiff to the Lakers because he has the highest value for the Lakers. Every other team still needs to win games now and early in the playoffs, so the Schiff injury brings down his value. But the Lakers don't have to worry about the Schiff injury; it won't affect their standing or any first-round playoff games.

The downside for the Pistons: They throw in the towel on winning a championship this season.

Overall, keeping Walker hedges, the Lakers bet on winning a title this season. Chances are they win it and are a better team with Walker in the future, but if they somehow lose the title this year, they will be looking for missed opportunities, and I would argue this is the one that would have been missed.

This might have been a really strong idea, but Doug and I weren't able to discuss this deal because Thomas Walker is freshly on his RFA contract, so he can't be traded until this coming off-season. Definitely the right type of thought process though.

I always forget about RFA, no trade clause.

Personally, I think the Pistons and Suns should have discussed a deal surrounding Akins for Zike.

Zike gives the Suns a guy who can run the point spot very well, and fits both the age range and salary length of his other players.

Akins allows the Pistons to reset around Lauri and look forward to a great wing combo.

I think the Suns should have made a push for Rubio De La Rosa from the Wizards. Trade Tominaga and points for an established PG and make that push for a title.
