Welcome to the 2002 Media day for the New Jersey Nets
Welcome to this years media day, we would like to open and congratulate the Hawks on another Championship. We strive to be a organization run like them, that is the goal day in and day out. During the off season we traded long time Net Antoine Davis to the Cleveland Cavaliers. We wish him all the luck over in Cleveland, he will be missed here. Quite a few things have changed since last years media day, we finished 20 under .500 so we went into the off season with a plan. We wanted to dump contracts and get younger and also Make Corey Maggette the face of the franchise.
This season we feel that we have a good mix of young and veteran leadership with the addition of David Robinson, Rasheed Wallace and Travis Best. We also acquired the talents of Stromile Swift, Chris Carr and ex Net Voshon Lenoard. We feel that with the ever improving core of Corey Maggette, Gerald Wallace, Jamaal Tinsley and Jerome James we have a great shot at bringing the Atlantic division back to prominence.
We thank you guys for coming out and playing catch up with the Nets. With that being said we now open the floor to questions.

Random Reporter: Corey Maggette had a great preseason. Do you feel as if he's ready to step into a leadership role on this team?

Yes we do, we will give him every opportunity to not only lead but thrive here in New Jersey.

Dr. Rocker from the Cleveland Rocker:
As much as any team with a losing record last season, you have the potential for long-term, high-level performance starting next season.
Will you while away this season, or will you start the push this season with your valuable expirings?

You were quite vocal and disappointed with the lack of development of your rookie, Nene out of TC. Do you foresee him having a long future on this club or are you looking to ship him out as soon as possible?

We are always looking to get better and will leave no option off the table in doing so.

Gerald Wallace has been a pleasant surprise since you drafted him a year ago. What kind of role do you see him having this season and in the future?

We think he will be our defensive stopper wing. He will be a #3 on offense but our leader on defense.

Do you see yourself running a lot of small ball offensive lineups?

I can definitely see us trying to experiment with different line ups this season.
