S62 Cavs Preseason Presser

Welcome to the Cavs Preseason Presser. We are pleased to welcome our GM jlmarines.

GM jlmarines: We finished last year with 32 wins. PF Gary Giles died in training camp. It's very clear our chance for 7th seed is gone after a horrible training camp. For the first time, we have to admit publicly we are in a rebuilding mode. I hate it but that's the reality.

GM jlmarines: Our priority is to find talent in the draft. I think PG is the key for a successful team. We are pleased to draft the best PG in the draft. We selected Ernest Cruz AKA Ernesto De La Cruz. PG Cruz potential in passing skills is outstanding, and we expect to train him for elite skills. PG Cruz is the future for the Cavs. Last year we drafted SF Baba Miller. SF Miller is getting better. We expect SF Miller to be our starter next season. For our rebuilding season we do expect to keep one veteran in our roster. SG Raphael Gordon is 27 yrs-old, but he has not lost a step. In fact, SG Gordon had a great TC, and we expect him to be the leader of the team.

GM jlmarines: During the off-season, we are extremely excited to get workhorse PG Geronimo Rubio De La Rosa and PG Teddy Dizon back. Dizon is a very underrated player and will provide depth. PG De La Rosa is a solid player and has plenty of juice left.

GM jlmarines: Our depth is so loaded with solid bench players. However, we are lacking an elite purple player. We signed solid studs PF Myke Henry and PF/SF Scottie Barnes. Chances of a playoff spot is slim. However, I think this team will have few major upset wins. We are confident by next season, the Cavs will be in better position to compete.

GM jlmarines: Here's our starting lineup for the current moment and subject to change as the season goes:

C Larry Canfield
PF Myke Henry
or PF Gary Giles
SF Scottie Barnes
or SF Cam Ron Fletcher
SG Raphael Gordon
PG Geronimo Rubio De La Rosa

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: Since the Cavs are in rebuilding mode, what players are you open to trading and which of your players are going to guaranteed to be Cavs through the rest of this season?

For sure, I will not trade SG Gordon, PG Cruz, and SF Miller. The remaining roster, I'm open. Obviously some players will cost more than others. I'm looking for points and draft picks. Thank you for the question.

What would you say your approach is in regard to team-building? What qualities do you look for in other players to acquire whether its in Free-Agency or thru trades?

Since I became a GM, I predominantly focused on defense. Defense wins championship, right? Well not in SIM. My first 10 seasons I mainly focused on PSD and PRD, and kinda ignored the rest. That approached failed completely. I will now focused on offense. I'm looking for players that are quick and great INS and JPS attributes. I need to find players that can score. This time, I will not be obsessed with defensive skills. Thank you for question.

Garbageman's recent article highlighted Larry Canfield as a trade now candidate for teams looking to bolster their frontcourt. Do you agree with this assessment and how aggressive are you going to be this season in updating your trade block and liquidating these kind of veteran players to build around Cruz/Miller/Gordon?

Agree. I really like Canfield. However, I don't have the roster to compete. Right now my main focus is to train SF Miller and PG Cruz. I do need points and I'm open for business. I will update my trading block. I do expect respectable offers.

Do you mean you have been trying all along and still managed to lose all the time?
