Season 62 - Mavs Press conference - Going for Broke
We had a pretty good run last season, but halfway through the season, we needed to decide whether to tie ourselves to He Hor and the massive contract that was coming to an older player or look for a younger point guard. We chose to tank, and the deal with the Pacers was born. Shout out to the Pacers. The deal went well for both teams, and now the Pacers are making a run at the Lakers, Celtic, Bulls, Grizzlies, and possibly the Nets for the Title. (Before we leave this, Grizzlies, are you ever coming out of the tax and/or giving up those expensive contracts?)
The draft went pretty well. Tanking worked GREAT. With the 9th pick we got top 5 talent with the Giant 7-4, 294lb blue potential Jonathan Kuminga. Buying late picks was a mistake I had to learn the hard way. The talent wasn't there, it didn't improve, and eventually, I had to ship them out for nothing to get under the 15-man roaster. See you later, 11 points! Other rookie GMs don't buy late-round picks—they're useless.
We are going for broke this season with nothing to lose. The Mavs are going to the playoffs. Mavs don't own our pick this season, so we are fully committed to going deep into the tax and buying up expiring or 2 year bloated contracts. Speaking of which, if anyone sees the Rockets, tell them we are looking for them, and give them the Mavs team's number, its 555-pbsl-private messages.
The worst mistake was made last season when the last day to cut scrub players passed us by without us knowing. (Speaking of which, maybe I can get points for making a calendar with a week-by-week breakdown of everything you need to remember for an entire sim season?) Last season we knew we were going deep into the tax for 62 season, but now it's not just going to cost us the 19 points for the 61 season, but probably an extra 20 points because not cutting scrub players at the end of last year put us in year two of the tax this season. Damn. Bad mistake.
Other than that huge tax blunder, things have been looking up. We added a little talent to the center and power forward spot (i.e. Raiquan Gray and Damien Bailey) very exciting, and we got a backup point guard in Jeffery Holt. Terrance Lewis-Weeks was on the block for a second, but after an excellent training camp and with room to grow, he will find valuable minutes on this team. Richie Cuevas is still our star with star talent, but sadly this will probably be his last season in a MAVS uniform. Let's send him off a winner with a playoff birth. Scoot Henderson is the real talent on he team and will never be moved.
Clarence Martin and Terrance Lewis-Weeks will be swapping positions because Martin proved himself in practice. Weeks may even be leading the bench unit. We are still a three-ball team, but we have some inside scoring now. We've got bench talent and if the Rockets come calling we may see some spark fly.
Sadly we lost our assistant GM, but seeing him move on and get building blocks for the Hawks has made us proud.
