Transition Between Years

So why the Frye was the finals completed, the draft lotto was completed, and the first draft pick completed in one day? literally as a non finals or first pick person, I checked in earlier this evening to a whole shit ton of off season stuff completed.

I am usually a person who does a write up between the draft lotto and the draft. this completely erased any kind of where with all from people who don't suck sim league dick. because shit was done so Fryeing quickly and nobody but the "elite" knew about it. There needs to be at least (i think two days) a day between end of finals and draft lotto and actual first draft pick.

IDK what the draft timeline is for this draft, but i hope it is at least 8 hours per pick, because I have work the rest of this week and this is utter bullshit if it ever comes to me, because ultimately i am going to get auto drafted with how Fryeing quick this crap has been turned over.

I kinda agree, its like i blinked and all this stuff was already done super quick without too much notice. I think more emphasis should be put on the actual actions going on rather than "lets just hurry and sim through everything" which seems to be the philosophy that was applied this postseason.

Somethings i agree with in this post, some i don't. This offseason moved at a frantic pace once the second round ended. Some of this was us, some of it was the pace at which DCs were sent. In the past, we moved at either a sim a day pace or when all Dcs were in. This year, we did the same thing; the DCs came in fast.

We'll have a little more structure going forth. There will be the end of the finals and announcement when the lotto show will start. Think that will help a lot of things. Good suggestion. The draft will not be 8 hours per pick. You have the opportunity to send a list of a draft order if you're going to be tied up.

Articles are appreciated, but in reality; the lotto is done and the picks can start coming in. The time in between the actual draft and when people can write articles has never been big. There was opportunity to wait before the lotto and schedule the show. Noted and we'll use that for sure. I'm not sure i understand the sucking sim league dick park and only the elite knowing. There were 2 broadcast e-mails sent throughout the day.

The draft didn't officially start until 8 AM this morning. Teams got their picks in early. It's always been like this, nothing new here. You have ample opportunity to send a list, and the timeline is clearly stated in the draft selection thread. There's NO reason you don't have time to get a list in by picks 18-27. The timeline is clearly stated in the "elite" draft selection thread where it's 2 hours. We won't be waiting 8 hours per pick. That's outlandish.

I also want to talk about how this message was addressed. I can tell you from my perspective, you won't talk to anyone who puts in the time they put in this way. I consider you a friend and a pretty good guy. I know you're better than that, and I'm assuming you were drunk when you posted this. If you have a suggestion, and i think you've got a pretty good one, keep it civil.

I agree this year went fast, but I think we can all agree this isn't most years, we had a commish change, a forum change, and I think everyone is still recovering from the Celtics not being the finals (at least I know I still am). I can't say much, because I would have been happy if the lotto was ran as soon as regular season ended. But I think people with high draft picks are anxious, they've waited all season sat through the playoffs, and now it's their turn to actually do something.

But also the draft doesn't actually start for another 15 mins or so, so nobody would be autodrafted anytime soon. And I think 4 hours is plenty of time in b/w each pick. There is nothing more frustrating than the draft being held up because we are waiting on one person.

This is something we can't emphasize enough. Switching over from Darth running things to a joint effort in inputting/setting up sim times, it is an adjustment that we knew who have hiccups. The very big pro to how things are run now is that if 1 person cannot run a sim, someone else can step up and do it in that other person's absence. The only downside is that there requires more communication on all levels (inputter to inputter, inputter to sim runner, sim runner to everyone else).

As a whole, considering the big change, communication has been really good all season. However, yesterday was caught up in a whirlwind of simming and moving the season along (people who could run sims and guide us newbie inputters on season end protocols/archiving had smaller windows of availability). The consensus is that things moved rather quickly yesterday, and I agree. The rest of the offseason will be much more worked out in the sense of scheduling.

Last couple of rounds of the playoffs and the draft are two of the hardest to plan a schedule around because the speed relies solely on the people involved. The draft could 1 season move at a snails pace and take 2-3 days. OR it could be like a previous draft and be completed in 24 hours (picks coming in quickly, lists, etc). However, the rest of the offseason will have rigid deadlines (as we have had in the past) and set sim days. In the future as well, we will make sure to allow for lag time between season end and a scheduled draft lotto.

One other thing I would like to say though. As Darth always said, running this stuff takes a lot of time, effort, and energy to make sure things do run smoothly. He isn't and wasn't lying. Between inputting, setting up the forums, posting/coordinating/determining all rules/responsibilities... it does take a lot of work AND TIME for many people. It's not something we get paid to do (nor do we want or expect to be paid); it's something we enjoy. I personally don't appreciate the "elite" or "dick sucking" comment. I understand levels of investment vary based on people, and of course the few of us inputting/running sims put more time and commitment into sim league. But there is no "elite". And I certainly am not sucking any dicks (except for Jalen Rose's). I understand the frustration in the OP, but please don't think it's a snap of the finger that makes things run. We are trying to make this a well-oiled sim league machine, but hiccups will happen. Angry posts are understandable and going to happen when things on our end don't go as well as planned, but please refrain from degrading the efforts of the people trying to make things work well.

Again, I apologize for things moving so quickly, but do know it will definitely be better in the future.
